Engineering can take over if the bridge is destroyed

Why have exposed bridge in the first place?

>WW2 era flak guns
>Barely take a single kiloton nuke
kek

Doesn't excuse the fact that it's open to be shot at

For morale

It's aesthetically pleasing.

>Deflectors
>Deflectors
>Just armor
Gee I wonder

>right design
>no square miles of radiators
Pls.

The SD bridge should have been apart of the layered structure on the top of it

But isn't that how actual navy ships look in real life? With the bridge exposed in an elevated position?

>ships would be able to see each other in the darkness of space

Yes and no. The true operational center of a ship, the CIC, is located inside the ship itself. Yes, you have the bridge on the upper decks, but the combat operations aspect of thee ship is deeper inside.

Yes, but modern "bridges" are mostly used for navigation. They have a Combat Information Center (CIC) located in a central and protected location.

Best ship design incoming.
>almost no weak spots
>not only is it heavily armored by super rare super dense material but it has not one, but TWO different kinds of force fields
>built for literally ramming into other ships
>enough firepower to take out an entire planet
>plenty of escape pods on the off chance that a battle barge hull is compromised

Starfleet ships are ships of peace (the saucer are the crew quarters, including for civilians) :^)

The saucer section can detach, with the drive section being used to fight

Thats not a battle barge thats a regular Imperial Navy ship. Space Marine BB's have a different prow design

>only 1/3 of guns could fire into one direction
>good design

BSG was cool up until I realized that they were going to milk the whole "anyone could be a cylon!!!" shit to hell and back. Quit after season 2. I assume like half the cast ended up being revealed as cylons. WOW WHAT A TWEEST!!!

Posting superior ship.

Looks cool and sells toys

Except they detach like three times ever. Also the saucer helps them fight.

And even the dedicated warship Defiant had the bridge on top.

>deflectors go down
>"oh god I wish we built the bridge in an armoured part of the ship for this very situation!"

Plus in every Star Trek series they take damage before the shields fail completely.

The star destroyer is the only good looking ship though

They require visuals for navigation, combat centres are in the middle of the ship, also, war ships simply aren't big and advanced enough to not have an exposed bridge

The Star Trek ship is nominally diplomatic, so it makes sense that it isn't militarily configured by default. Moreover, the Galaxy Class at least had a 'battle bridge' for war situations nestled inside the neck in a much more protected area.

There are guns on all sides of the ship including the top and bottom.

>not knowing the saucer section and the families in it arent a decoy for the battle bridge in serious fights.

Except they clearly all can't fire on a single target.

>this whole fucking post

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHHAA my god warhammer is a fucking joke, literally "mary sue: the universe"

>sovereign nation of Ree'Ak'tor

As long as you have your forward deflector shields and are able to intensify forward fire power you should be fine.

>the battle bridge in serious fights.
Again, they only use the battle bridge like 3 times, which doesn't include the fights where the ship is defeated, and the final fight where it's destroyed.

Hell even when they have a simulated wargame they don't use it.

Why would that matter? They aren't fucking pea shooters.

Starfleet ships aren't made for war

>Why would that matter?
Are you serious? Are you seriously asking why directing all your firepower at a single target is a good idea?

>broadsides on a spaceship
full retard

well yeah, that's the point

YOUR SHIP DESIGNS ARE INSIGNIFICANT COMPARED TO THE POWER OF THE FORCE

Does it matter when there's shields? When the shields go it doesn't matter where you get hit really

Yes, but naval ships can only move in 2 dimensions on a plain. And historically relied on human vision to navigate.

It doesn't make a lot of sense in space, where things move in 3D.

In Gundam it kind of makes sense, since they have particles that jam computers and you need visual confirmation.

Because x3 times of guns kill target x3 times faster.

Best ship design here

They have to go full retard in 40k though.

thats just because picard is a horrible captain.

That's the point. All races in the War 40k universe are Mary Sue. It's basically Mary Sue against Mary Sue against Mary Sue etc...
Orks for instance can win a battle from pure collective thought.
Tyranids swarm enemies mercilessly and eat entire planets just because.
Eldar are hyper intelligent, incredibly fast, and have super heightened reflexes.
The list goes on and on.

What is better the imperial star destroyer or the venator

>implying movies even have good ship design

>Why is BSG the only sci-fi to get fucking ship design right?

It's not "right", though. If anything, it's the bigger fallacy to assume that because you've put the command center deep inside the ship you've protected it any better. Maybe if you're talking a battleship (and only a battleship) in WW2, but not today, let alone in space combat. The CiC aboard a cruiser or destroyer is put where it is simply because it's where there's enough room in the superstructure to put a room that size, and the bridge is still exposed. The object in naval warfare hasn't been to take as many hits as possible and keep fighting in decades, it's to not get hit at all.

>i know that it's shit that justifies me liking it

then why do all force users still use spaceships

As ALREADY stated in this thread

1. Shields do not provide 100% protection
2. Ships are not immediately destroyed without shields.

Battle Barges are built for defense. If they want to take care of a ship, they'll just ram right through it.

Arrival pulled off the banana alien ship better

>shields go down
>bridge safely inside the hull
>enemy ship fires one (1) supercharged glob of plasma at your hull after the shields are down
>the ship melts and explodes anyway and the bridge with it

i figured its like naval warfare in real life right now. ships have tremendous firepower to kill each other with, but no way to survive it themselves (except in star wars they got deflector shields)

>implying this is a good fucking design

Except of course the CIC of cruisers and destroyers do have protection, albeit light, consisting mainly of kevlar for anti-fragmentation.

...

you're allowed to like dumb shit you autist, it's called a guilty pleasure

Can't deny esthetics though

FOR TRANSPORT NOT FOR CRUSHING IMPUDENT MAGGOTS

>wh40k is bad because it's dumb

you dumb jabroni, thats the entire point. literally and unironically turn off your brain and enjoy it

>turn off your brain
Is this redd.it?

Thoughts

For everyone that's just going to endlessly repeat "Starfleet doesn't build warships" or "Just use shields" fucking pic related. A Starfleet warship built with armor, and they still put the bridge on the fucking top.

no, read the url you illiterate mongoloid

but Darth himself used a tie fighter in a new hope, why didn't he just use the force then?

me too senpai same reason marvel is pure art, just gotta turn your brain fof bro!!!!!!!

He used the force to aim the guns

>bridge deep in ship
>shields, sensors, etc go down
>where are we going? where do i point? WHAT'S GOING ON OUTSIDE????? ENSIGN, RUN TO A PORT AND TELL US WHERE THE ENEMY IS! AND THEN RUN BACK AGAIN AND TELL US IF WE'RE ABOUT TO HIT SOMETHING!

>expecting anything logical from Sisko

The Enterprise design is also eh when it comes to safety. Blow out the neck and you detach the saucer section on most Starfleet vessels that copied the basic design of the original Enterprise (Star Drive Section and a Saucer).

Take out one of the Nacelles, and the ship can't establish a stable warp field, so you strand them in the best case scenario, or cause a warp core breach in the worst case.

Theyre the only sci fi that actually cares about the viewer

>jabroni

Are we bringing jabroni back, jabroni?

because the Force was strong in Luke

imperial class by far

Do you people even fucking watch Star Trek before posting? The viewscreen on a starship still relies on sensors, and if they're down the ship is blind. This is quite literally a major plotpoint in several stories, including the movie Wrath of Khan.

EDD
ING
TON

spotted the iCuck owner

In the original concept of the show, the nacelles gave off lots of radiation and had to be distanced from the ship for safety. This got ignored later when ships started putting nacelles in their hulls.

he saw via force that death star will explode and used tie fighter to transport to safe distance. attacking the rebels fighters with tie fighter was just a cover.

autistic looking shit

>have tremendous firepower to kill each other with, but no way to survive it themselves
Don't some modern ships have point defense systems onboard to deal with anti ship missiles? It won't stop cannon fire but at least it is something.

Hell there are even ships that can be fitted with special missiles to counter ICBMs.

> Picard to Ten-Forward, sensors are down, look out the window and tell us where the enemy is.

What was even the fucking point of the death star when they had multiple SSD's

Isn't the imperial star destroyer an upgrade? Unless you're talking about aesthetics.

Star Destroyers can't get through planetary shields. See Hoth.

Plot device

didn't they lower the metal plating or something on the bridge window once?

and didn't they do a flying swoop shot from space going towards bridge window where you can see people inside bridge?

if a starship does not have window view at hull then maybe that specific starship's bridge is at the center of the saucer?

obrien added extra armor

the bridge is sunk in slightly.

lets assume the star destroyer sheild generators are like air conditioners. they have to mostly be outside to work. well who the fuck just puts their AC unit on the top front roof of their house? even the most nigger of hillbilles even puts their AC in the backyard in a nook. maybe even with a little fence around it.

SW and ST have shields. Once shields go down you are fucked anyways no matter where bridge is.

>superior ship design coming through

>and didn't they do a flying swoop shot from space going towards bridge window where you can see people inside bridge?

I believe a shot like that is in one of the JJ Abrams movies. However he changed it so the viewscreen is a window where they can overlay graphics onto.

if you do that HOW WILL THE REBELS CONCENTRATE THEIR FIRE ON SHIELD GENERATOR IF IT'S NOT PLACED WHERE THEY CAN CONCENTRATE THEIRFIRE, YOU UNMITIGATED IMBECILE

You mum's new dildo has arrived

those are not ships. they're cigarette lighters.

>RUN TO A PORT AND TELL US WHERE THE ENEMY IS
They're several hundred kilometers beyond viewing distance, sir.

>TELL US IF WE'RE ABOUT TO HIT SOMETHING!
We're in space, captain, the nearest object is 200,000,000 kilometers away.

Arguably that would make more sense than where they are right now aside from weight.
>hence why commercial buildings put the AC on top b/c cold air falls

Plot device. The answer you're looking for is plot device. That's why the generators are right there.
