I'll contribute by posting the closest thing I have. I listened to the Hot Chip track Keep Fallnin' and they name-dropped people named Gene and Dean Ween who I'd never heard of, then I stumbled across pic later while looking at albums on YouTube And thus began my 2-month session of literally only listening to Ween songs. Were my favorite band by default but now that I've snapped into reality, they aren't but still up there for sure.
I just wish they'd done something more amazing with Country Greats and Pure Guava to make a different album with new songs, but also songs from those two.
If anyone can explain what makes Pure guava an amazing album, legitimately explain to me how it is?

Really amazing and unique album, have always loved it since the first time youtube recommended it to me.
It's also the only album by Yasuaki Shimizu I would listen to, the others are kinda shit. This one is so unique it falls outside common classification, the others are bog standard jazz fusion.

i think it has something to do with this
google uses a thing called "adsense" or something where they create an ad profile of you based on your search history on google apps (including youtube) and the profile list broad categories of what you may be into.
one of those categories is "world music" and it probably found people with the "world music" category clicked on certain japanese albums a lot and they recced it to other "world music" fans. vaporwave is also classified under "world music" because the algorithm thinks it's japanese pop due to the song names.
