I've been listening to them since the mid-80s, and while it's true there was a plateau of total brilliance, the later stuff could still be good. Saw them live (one of the last gigs, as it turned out) last year and Smith's sense of humour was as sharp as ever. New Facts Emerge was a great record.
I've spent the evening fondling old vinyl and getting through a bottle of Scotch. A terrible day.
