So, should the US leave? I have a feeling a majority of the people that want the US completely gone also don't want a huge military buildup to defend against China, so they either don't care or don't think that's actually a threat worth preparing for.
A war with China does sound insanely unlikely though.
I don't know how realistic it is to propose leaving entirely, but I'm personally all for renegotiating the degree of our presence there.
And I hear there's a bit of a rape epidemic within the military although I have no first-hand knowledge about it. If that's the case then that'd be an important sort of thing to prioritize doing shaping up.

It wouldn't be possible to have a military the size of the US, so I am not referring to that. The lack of manpower could be solved with higher quality equipment and gear. Though more importantly our constitution is pretty much severely restricting our defense capabilities, so having a fully capable military would be to change the laws so it fits the conditions of the modern era. While Russia isn't really a direct threat to Japan, China could be dealt if Japan, the US, and the neighboring ASEAN nations works together. We can't do shit by ourselves, hence why we need a proper alliance. Economic wise, it is just a matter of allocating the budget so it isn't really a big deal. After all we are spending quite a lot in our defense budget.
