Is that the best Brazil has to offer?
brazil is one of my favorite music cunt

off the top of my head
t. brazilian
not really, i'm french
There's this scene in brazil right now with a mix of boss nova and native rythms + dream pop + math rock + midwest emo + ???.
I think it's called "rock triste (sad rock)" and there are some small groups that call themselves "lost generation of {name of the city}" over the web.

The mainstream artists are worst than american pop, but they have some good folk and, of course, bossa nova.
I got my spotify account hijacked by some brazilian fuck who managed to delete all my playlists and make a bunch of new ones, filling them up with utterly atrocious brazilian/otherwise latino house music.
lmao how does this even happen
...
>"japanese rugby"
>"modern football"
>shit detuned emo riffing
>pop punk tier songwriting
...yes, very innovative and interesting
Dark brazilian magic
What's impressive is that he did it in about 12 hours.
Serves you right for actually paying for music.
Tbqh lad, this whole sad rock thing is for 17 year old kids who just discovered "alternative rock" or whatever.
Siba & A Fuloresta - Toda vez que eu dou um passo o mundo sai do lugar
>traditional northeastern music mixed with rock / indie, I've seen people call it a brazilian take on Elephant 6 but I don't really agree
youtube.com
Batatinha - Toalha da Saudade
>depressing and bittersweet samba
youtube.com
Racionais MCs - Sobrevivendo no Inferno
>heavy rap, socially conscious lyrics, influence wise they're something like the brazilian Public Enemy
youtube.com
Itamar Assumpção - Beleléu, Leléu e Eu
>experimental mpb, funky as fuck, wonderful summer music
youtube.com
Arrigo Barnabé - Clara Crocodilo
>I don't even know what this is, experimental, very weird, mpb
youtube.com
Secos & Molhados - Self Titled
>glam mpb???
youtube.com
VA - Não São Paulo
>brazilian post punk and no wave
youtube.com
Violeta de Outono - Em Toda Parte
>psychedelia / prog influenced post-punk
youtube.com
Velho - Decrepitude e Sabedoria
>evil as fuck black metal, I have this record in vinyl, tape and CD
youtube.com
The Charts - Carbonicos
>my absolute jam during teen years, mod revival, "Maximum R&B" is the only way to properly describe this, completely unknown even by Brasil standards
youtube.com
Here's some stuff I posted a while back in another brazilian music thread, I can post some more shit if guys tell me what you want, though I doubt I'll be able to give you anything very obscure.
name a better MPB album
Gal Fatal - A Todo Vapor. Even has a better version of Dê um Rolê than their own.
>the country that spawned Secos & Molhados, Bacamarte, Os Mutantes, Arnaldo Baptista, Tom Zé, the Tropicália movement, the Nova Vanguarda movement and MPB
>devoid of talent
that's not even the best gal album, by a long shot
>Sepultura
ROOOOOOTS
BLOODYROOOOOOOOTS
Links for all these, please man
>ctrl+F
>tim maia
>no results
wew it sure is pleb o'clock
>Reinvents Brazilian music every five years
Nothin personnell kid
why is he so underrated?
The ONLY worth Brazilian album is Secos e Molhados s/t. How can Brazil not be a talentless country when there is only one album that worth listen.
take a look at the rest of the thread
If you want download links, I really can't upload anything right now, not at home, but you can find all of it on soulseek. Links for spotify, no can do, are the youtube ones broken?
I know you're probably just trolling but this is a retarded troll. Brazil originated numerous of its own distinct entirely indigenous music forms during the 20th century. There are only a couple of countries on the face of the planet can say that.
This is the country that gave us Baden Powell ffs.
how's brazilian life treating you, friend?
*ahem*
Heitor Villa-Lobos
Pretty bad. No jobs on the horizon, weed is expensive as fuck, if by miracle I manage to land a masters this year, it'll probably be without a scholarship, my gf moved to the other side of the country and I'll be broke for carnival, though if there is a time in the year where getting a buzz for free is doable is during carnival. Also, politically the country is FUBAR and I neither can nor want to immigrate.
Here's some more stuff:
Cólera - Pela Paz em Todo Mundo
>og punks, literally obligatory for every kid who went through a punk phase
Brazilian Octopus - S-T
>some of the country's greatest and most innovative musicians jamming out, everything from blues rock to easy listening to contemporary music to hard psych
youtube.com
João Nogueira - Vida Boêmia
>samba
youtube.com
Arma / Sakhet / Factor Kill / Atomic Bomb - Aliança Infernal
>black, thrash, speed metal and so on, no link for the complete split and the sound is kinda shit, but some lads are in it so why not share
youtube.com
Erasmo Carlos - Carlos, Erasmo
>former teen idol smokes weed and listens to soul with his lad Tim Maia, records this fantastic psych / funk album
youtube.com
Adoniran Barbosa - S-T
>samba, one of the greatest composers we ever had, something like a samba Woody Guthrie or Leadbelly I guess
youtube.com
what about amon tobin
i feel you my dude
persevere
is the oligarchy still too conservative to push legal weed?
Lmao what. Brazil has amazing music.
Chico Buarque - A Ópera do Malandro
> a samba / mpb version of the Three Penny Orchestra by Kurt Weil. Might go over non-portuguese speakers heads since a lot of Buarque's draw is in his lyrics
youtube.com
Clube da Esquina - S-T
>mpb, psych, vocals reminiscent of early english psych, one of my favourite records
youtube.com
Tim Maia - Racional vols. 1 & 2
>legendary record. Tim Maia was an absolute madman who got into soul while living illegaly in the US. Got deported, decided to start a soul movement in Brazil, eventually got into a weird cult which made him quit alcohol, cigs and drugs, making his voice hit levels he couldn't before. He got out of the cult and eventually destroyed every copy of vol. 1 he could find, vol. 2 was released posthumously
youtube.com
Gilberto Gil - S-T
>tropicália, psych rock, this record is the tightest shit ever, Gil is kinda relegated to a second plane after Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque but no one can syncretize different shit like this lad
Ronnie Von - A Máquina Voadora
>similar to Erasmo, guy was a teen heartthrob, but he started hanging out with os Mutantes and decided he'd go psych too. This in turn almost ruined his career but created 3 cult classics, Máquina being my favourite
youtube.com
Luiz Melodia - Pérola Negra
>jazzy mpb, good for drinking alone
youtube.com
Sá, Rodrix & Guarabyra
>literally impossible not to compare these guys to Crosby, Stills & Nash, the difference being they use brazilian rural rhythms instead of american ones, if you dislike this you're dead inside
youtube.com
Yeah, and chances are everything will get worse, considering a candidate who's a literal military dictatorship apologist is growing on the voting intentions polls.
Prove it, faggot.
Best taste so far.
Nice recs, recently some Surf Rock Brazilian band released a good album:
Beach Attack, by Beach Combers.
I recommend.
The thing is, his albums order are terribly confuse.
not sure if Sup Forums will like this but this seems like a good place to shill my friend's band. they also have some english versions of the song but i particularly prefer the ones in portuguese
t. Posmod stoner
well, the whole of SA is pretty fucked as of late, or actually in general.
pretty sad how political and economic crises are just a part of life down there. good luck user
>mama feet
Samuel Campos is a great brazilian guitar player. You can find him on youtube. He's also very funny.
Reminder that Sepultura (a band from Brazil) made the 2nd best thrash album in existence
bolsonaro is best candidate from the ones that could actually get elected
Not the oligarchy, but most people still think that we can win a war against drugs, so they beg for politicians to take our money and spend on useless shit like pacification of favelas.
what's wrong with the name?
Only because he's naive enough.
am brazilian, don't know half the shit you linked..
>smoking weed
>celebrating carnival
Despite your musical taste being really good, you're among the lowest scum of the country.
this
because the other options are either literally whos and extremely bad people
>people actually prefer a ignorant well-known corrupted politician than a guy who tries to keep his promises and wasn't involved in any corruption just because he is a little crazy about the military period
Oh fuck dude, I've actually been to a bunch of their concerts, they played my city's Surf Festival a bunch of times. If you want brazilian surf, you just replied to the right guy, though giving you full albums will be kinda difficult:
Os Jordans
>including out of obligation, pretty standard 60s band, but they were the first one
youtube.com
Intóxicos
>great band, their guitarist is a fucking genius, I went to visit him and the dude would just conjure great riffs out of thin air while under effect of god knows what
youtube.com
Gasolines
>one of my favourite bands, they do Morricone-inspired stuff but they also use all sorts of exotic instruments
youtube.com
Los Muertos Vivientes
>a bunch of guy from Intoxicos when they were younger and knee deep into coke and lucha libre, they played in my ton once and we had a midget x guy dressed in chicken fight, it was beautiful, even more than the Flaming Lips concert I've been to
youtube.com
Dead Rocks
>the current kings of the scene, I guess
youtube.com
Lafayette & os Tremendões
>not exactly surf, contemporary surf and garage musicians formed this band to help a legendary keyboardist from the Jovem Guarda days (our version of 60s merseybat and etc.), but I've been really getting into this lately
youtube.com
Yeah, I'm sure being a resented cunt sitting in my bedroom is more fun to go out, get out of my mind and kiss a bunch of girls I'll never see, maybe even a blowjob.
That's pretty much it, there are dipshits like that even in my fucking engineering class.
Your lower than dogshit for me, you are a maggot that feed on the rotten guts of a dog's corpse.
My dude the man praises torturers on national TV.
Here's some more non-surf stuff
Overdose - Século XX
>death, thrash, this is actually a split with Sepultura which they removed from further editions because they knew Overdose was better (that's more an opinion from someone who dislikes Sepultura as a fact, though)
youtube.com
Lomba Raivosa - Carpe Lobem
>punk rock, pop punk, I'm friends with them pls be nice
youtube.com
Piry - Heroi Moderno
>actually a single track because I haven't tracked down anything else by this guy but this song is fantastic
youtube.com
Lula Cortês & Zé Ramalho - Paebiru
>at some point this was one of the most expensive records in the world, really trippy psych folk
youtube.com
Liverpool - Por Favor Sucesso / Marcelo Zona Sul
>hidden 60s psych gem, the Zombies meet mpb
youtube.com
Ovos Presley - A Date with Ovos
>punkabilly, the great thing here is that if you translate their intentionally shitty joke name it still sort of works as Eggs Presley
ovospresley.bandcamp.com
Gal Costa - S-T
>tropicália, psychedelia, Lanny Gordin on the guitars, one of the sweetest voices in Brazil's history
youtube.com
As Cilibrinas do Éden - S-T
>Rita Lee post-Mutantes, very fun traditional rock & roll with some psych tints here and there
youtube.com
Rakta - III
>very atmospheric psych punk, heavy as fuck, I actually felt kinda ill at their concert
youtube.com
Facada - Nadir
>one of the best bands in activity in Brazil right now, grindcore, brutal as fuck
youtube.com
Hutt - Sessão Descarrego
>brutal grindcore, I never miss their concerts, this shit is even heavier live
youtube.com
>How can a country be so devoid of talent?
Let's ask the real question...
who fucking cares, do you think you're fuckign Vegeta to go around telling people lower than dogshit. I bet you're a underachiever manlet
Last post, for now at least
Os Brazões - ST
>funky heavy psych full of african-inspired percurssion
youtube.com
Ronnie Von - A Máquina Voadora
>this guy was a brazilian heart throb, but he hanged around with Os Mutantes, probably dropped some acid and decided to go full psych. Mostly ignored, the few people who listened to this actually demanded refunds, but it was eventually rediscovered
youtube.com
Fuzzfaces - Voodoo Hits
>garage revival, fuzzy as hell, one of my favourite records
youtube.com
Miêta - Dive
>shoegaze, dream pop, I'm really rooting for them, pls like this
youtube.com
Cadáver em Transe - ST
>post punk but more punk than post
youtube.com
Life is a Lie - Tomo II: Sobre os Fundamentos d'A Ordem
>grind, crust
youtube.com
Patife Band - Corredor Polonês
>post punk, no wave
youtube.com
Detetives - Nada Automático
>garage rock, mod revival
youtube.com
Thee Butches Orchestra - Golden hits by
>one of my fav brazilian bands, for some reason, probably money, their drummer was a founding member of CSS
youtube.com
Soviet American Republic - Join the Mess or Leave the Town
>traditional psychobilly, fun as fuck
youtube.com
not really. he praised a guy who tortured people which is not exactly the same.
also we had a president who kidnapped and bombed places and that was ok.
i don't claim that he is the best of everything and the solution to all our problems but from the options that were given until now he is the best to choose from.
>Magma
Refuted
>joe dassin
Mieta seems nice, vou conferir
Os Brazoes is godtier
>ctrl+F "pescado rabioso"

>the man praises torutrers
>not really, he praised a guy who tortured people
They're great, they seem to be gaining some traction recently which is nice. They're from my city and every band here is either some retarded power metal shit or glue sniffing punk (which is ok, but kinda bothersome in excess).
Also Lizzy Mercier and Serge Gainsbourg but that's about it
Fite me, you dick.
Wait just realised they're Argentine, my bad.
Sepultura exists tho so you're still wrong
>
You posted no music, you're irrelevant.
Back to your special school.
Calm down lad, go watch some Nando Moura videos or listen to some Oficina G3 or whatever it is that you do to get un-triggered
If you like Pescado, check out Liverpool, I posted them a few posts earlier.
...
>has no albums
Fuck outta here.
Here's the damn music
youtu.be
same bullshit argument the left is using in the USA to discredit the founding fathers.
>oh they were slave owners
>that means they are bad people
>therefore they shouldn't be praised
all nations are devoid of talent, naturally
only few chosen individuals are talented
mate, how do you know so fucking much music?
and here I thought that knowing and liking Edu Lobo was obscure enough..
Pleb confirmed.
My dude, what the fuck did the military dictatorship did for the country other than create a fake economic boom which came back to bit us in the ass in the 90s, torture and kill a bunch of people and be completely retarded in their censorship standards?
Since my city's alternative scene was so small, I ended up getting exposed to a bunch of shit, since everyone knows everyone regardless of what they listen.
If you're into Edu Lobo, you should check his concept album with Chico Buarque, O Grande Circo Místico. I usually hate concept albums but I can't recommend you this one enough.
youtube.com
> Implying the country is devoid of musical talent
Forgets that military dictatorship and strong globalization means cultural murder
which city is that?
Prefer this?

Or this?

I also listen to a lot of thematic compilations, which is essential to understand whatever was going on at a given time and place. Here's some cool brazilian music ones:

Even your taste in RAC is shit, at least post some Comando Blindado, you fucking pleb.
would by any chance these albums be available in vinyl here in HUE-land?
i've been thinking about starting a vinyl collection, and since you gave us so much recs it is wise to start with br albums
Well, save Black Rio and Guitar Fuzz Bananas, everything should be easy enough to get here. The rest are easy to import. Sub and Começo do Fim do Mundo have been reissued recently, though I don't remember the label. Your best bets to find any of these, including the imported ones, are in São Paulo, Curitiba and Porto Alegre. I assume you can find a lot of cool shit in Rio and/or Salvador too, but if you're also from BH good fucking luck finding anything that isn't Fagner, New Order or dadrock.
>All this shit

Luckily no, I'm not Brazilian.
I am your mom tho
I seriously wish you were my mom and not brazilian because that would mean you're in another continent not telling me how "your cousin got a job and is earning a trillion dollars a month"
>Aksak Maboul
Why didn't you post Plastic Bertrand too? Same country.
>tfw I love my mom and wouldn't change her ever at all
I feel for you user
yeah my mistake
