By that point he had become complacent with or moved past whatever inner demons had inspired the ferocity and genuine hatred behind his earlier work, so what was left was only a few steps removed from the Dollar Tree Halloween aesthetic of the Only-era Misfits. Still great songwriting on the first 4 records, but none of the passion. People forget how dark the Misfits were imo; the horror shit was just a device to convey insecurity, anxiety, mental illness etc.
