Yes, Been meaning to watch this and now is a good as time as any

The spirit of the beehive

Is this good? I got 15 minutes in and stopped watching, can't even remember why.

Yeah it's one of my favs. Really quiet and beautiful. It's more sullen than melancholy.

Julian Po (1997)

try a Michael Bay movie faggot

Trainspotting does it for me. I know some people consider it a comedy, but it hits me in a way that Requiem for a Dream and other drug tragedies don't.

Lylja 4-ever
The Return
Au Hasard Balthazar

Melancholia is the only film that perfectly portrayed dread throughout the whole movie. From start to finish.

If you wanna get sad, look no further.

Ironically enough, I wouldn't say that Melancholia is a melancholy movie at all. It's more about dread, as you said, and suffering.

L'eclisse
Vivre sa vie
The Double Life of Veronique

>perfectly portrayed dread
The Vanishing
Take shelter
Caché

90s VHS trailers are strange to watch. They feel much older than they are.

A Gentle Woman

Fuck outta here with that shit

...

Picnic at Hanging Rock. It actually baffles me why Sup Forums never discusses this beautiful and pure kino.

Everything Ignmar Bergman made, but especially CRIES & WHISPERS, WILD STRAWBERRIES and WINTER LIGHT.

His brother dies and leaves him to care for a teenage he doesn't want. Then he's forced to live in a town where everyone hates him because he accidentally killed his kids in a house fire he started when he was drunk. Doesn't have a happy ending, there's no redemption. He just gives the kid away and moves out of town again.

Margareth was depressing shit too.

...

That film is good.

There is always sense of dread going on in that film that I like.

Also daily reminder they are doing a shitty remake of it in 2017

Her

Does Blade Runner count?

>It's been waiting a million years, just for us…
didn't even know about the remake. something else to not watch then

Why don't they put any of that in the trailers?
They make it seem like the lamest piece of garbage of all time

da fuck? its the best romance/drama film of the 00s pleb

Vertigo

For me it's not so much the dread that gets me, it's the terrible inescapable sorrow that follows everyone after what happened, especially Sara and the male lead whose name I forgot. I love stories about how tragedy affects people.

'The Lovely Bones' wasn't anywhere near as good but I liked it for the same reason.

And I'm not watching the fucking remake.

Breaking the waves

I get what you mean. Sara had it the worst and Miranda just vanishing like that was just too much for her.

>And I'm not watching the fucking remake.
I don't think anybody else will to. It will just be a tv show stretch to 6 episodes somehow.

Slavs do melancholy kino very well.

>everything by Tarkovsky, especially Stalker and Mirror
>Leviathan
>The Postman's White Nights

Don't know... I wasn't even really interested in watching it, but the showing of La La Land was sold out and it was the only movie playing around that time I hadn't already seen, so I gave it a shot. It's bleak as fuck.

Why is Lars von Trier so obsessed with cucking?

He found out his mom cuck his dad when he was younger.

...

And you should watch Resnais' Muriel after this.

Come and See

Haven't seen your pic related but i think you're confusing melancholic with depressing

These aren't melancholy, these are terrifying.

Poor kid from Come and See actually got PTSD.

Deep sadness was all I felt. They probably do fall under 'depression' more than 'melancholic'

This isn't melancholy at all, it's just irritating

If you liked Come and See, watch Ivan's Childhood. It's very similar but less raw and brutal and more melancholy and dreamlike. I personally find it to be the superior film.
