Will Americans Ever Embrace Soccer?

Will they? And also what's is your opinion of American sports like basketball and football?

Soccer is kinda fun to play, but compared to football I'll never watch that shit. It is far too boring and too full of pussies. It's like you made a sport for the whole purpose of removing upper body strength from the game. Just look at the players, they look like jockeys.

If women can even play it, I'm not really that interested. Which only leaves football, rugby, and hockey.

Europeans like fooball(soccer) because we all played it as children. I can see why someone who never played it thinks it is boring to watch.

You forget baseball amd lacrosse

Okay I guess that's true with baseball. My only problem with baseball is that it moves kinda slow and the whole "everybody gets a turn" thing grates on me. However I do understand the appeal of the sport.

And true about lacrosse, but lacrosse is kind of goofy, like something you'd play in PE class as a kid. I've not watched very much of it so perhaps I should give it another chance.

Soccer - fun but Players are pussies
Basketball - full of niggers but fun to play at times
Football - full of niggers as well, fun to throw the Ball. Game itself is like Valium.

>15 seconds of sport, 25 minutes of bud light commecials.
what the fuck are you talking about?

Soccer is the most popular sport played among children here so lack of knowledge of the game is not the reason why Americans haven't embraced the sport.

Well, is the most popular sport in the world, football, then basketball, and last your eggball, its like rugby for autist, armor and shit.

>Basketball
Cool fukken sport.
>Football
Alright. Not my thing, but I get it on a theoretical level.
>Baseball
...what. What are you doing? It's like this really weird mix of tennis and tag.

What the fuck america.

>calling football soccer
of course it's a German cuck

Faggot poofta nig sports.

Real white men play Hockey, not this homo faggotry with no fighting or hitting.

Calcio is superior

No.

Even our homosexuals aren't that gay.

Soccer is for brown people.

Now if we made nigger gang wars a sport, I might be interested.

No one in America cares about baseball

It's been done into some "you aren't a man if you don't watch real American sports"-thing in the US.

The masculinity-argument just isn't credible for one second.

The interrupted play aspect of football makes each play much more strategic and explosive.

Continuous play does not allow time to get set in different formations and call specific plays. This is why soccer coaches and basketball coaches walk around on the sidelines and basically whack their pecker for a few hours while the players play, except for lineup changes etc. meanwhile football coaches are constantly play calling giving signals, yelling and screaming, talking to coordinators in the booth, flipping through play books, etc. Football is, despite its image, perhaps the most cerebral sport because the complexity of the rules and interrupted play. Football is almost too complicated, my foreign friends hate it because the sheer amount of rules, formations, positions, etc.

Likewise continuous play puts focus on having stamina, interrupted play puts the focus on explosive strength.

America's ego is too fragile to take international sports seriously, that's why they only care about games they play against themselves.

All that needs to be said

Children grow out of it once puberty hits. Girls may still play in their teens but most go on to sports that matter like basketball.

the only good sport popular in america is baseball

Lacrosse is the rich white mans sport now. Its also a lot of fun beating the shit out of someone with a metal pole

That's one factor. It's party because of nationalism, subtle racism, competition from other sports, and legitimate claims of it being boring.

Cricket>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Baseball

it seems like it's getting pretty big in my city. we have a pro team and their games are packed out

No, it requires a sense of collectivism and pride that Americans lack. Although the commercialisation of the game will make it more Americanised, sadly.

They are shit at it despite having a varied and big population, so they hate it, or at least pretend to.
They'll start liking it when they get some results.

You sound like a fag

i dont think this semen slurping sport is for me lads

Americans will never embrace a sport where there aren't at least 20+ goals/points per game to be celebrated during a match with at least 5 breaks and a maximum of 5 minutes of continiuous running

Because niggerball is better

>Will they?
probably. and I imagine once real money starts being pumped into it both MLS and their NT will become much stronger. in that case it won't be long until UEFA's Champions League starts inviting US teams.

>And also what's is your opinion of American sports like basketball and football?
I don't care much for American Football or Baseball, but NBA is great

I enjoy watching soccer.

Then some cunt gets yellow carded because some faggot takes a dive and all respect for the game gets thrown out the window.

Divers should get punished with cards, it should not be a viable strategy in any sport to be a lying sissy bitch.

Even winning the world cup wouldn't faze us as most here compare it to a special Olympics event.

When professional soccer starts looking more like street soccer, it will become popular. As long as the professional leagues continue using Europansy(whaaahhh he tripped me wahhh let me pretend like i'm dying) rules however, the popularity will remain in the sub-professional realm.

UEFA wont invite U.S. teams beacuse its a european league

I just can't get into basketball, but I can respect it.

After I moved to the U.S., I really tried to get into American football, but had the same problem. I'm sure a few more Superbowls will fix that, though.

Ignore the Cuban flag. On vacation. Am actually a Russian living in U.S.

>soccer

FUCK OFF

You can blame continental Yuropoors for starting that

Why I suspect leftists and Europeans hate football
>uniquely American sport (nationalist)
>no women's league
>imbued with violence
>expensive to play/overtly commercial and capitalist
>too complex

Some are legitimate criticisms and others are not.

>UEFA champions league
>Union of European Football Associations
>not inviting American Teams

well color me surprised

Boring is a legitimate argument, but also a subjective one.

I watched live football in the US and I was bored to tears. Couldn't watch the whole thing.

It was also funny to see how different cultures we have for watching live sports. It seemed like almost a picnic or a concert or something over there. Very laid back and people were talking politics and other shit between the plays. A white woman came and asked of us Europeans to teach her the rules of the sport in the middle of the whole thing...

The time difference makes it impossible to play in Europe, for American teams. Also it's not very good business if the matches are broadcasted in the middle of the day in the US

UEFA is a business and if there was enough financial incentive to invite US teams, they'd invite them in a heartbeat.

It's a women and kids' sport, so no.
But with spics taking over who knows

Just can't get into soccer and i've tried more than once. I'll watch the american world cup games for a chance to get drunk and chant USA but thats about it. A black coworker said to me that he "hates how politcally correct sports are getting" which kind of caught me off guard but its true. Just like in game 7 of the finals tonight a 6'8'' 250 pound guy will hardly get bumped then sling himself halfway across the court. Lebitch is the biggest cry baby in sports

From what I've seen, most people fall out of Soccer because they don't see a good professional career. Americans who want to be famous athletes have many icons to look at in Basketball, Baseball, and American football, but I can't think of much in the way of American League soccer icons.

Same thing happens here in Canada, the dedicated athletes go into Hockey because everyone here plays Hockey, and we have a bunch of Cultural Hockey icons to look towards. We have much less in the way of baseball, and a somewhat smaller American football scene.

Its not that you can't succeed as an soccer player, its that when your around the mid-teens age that you really need to start focusing on these sports to succeed, your only gonna see the culturally popular ones around you in the vast majority of cases.

no, as we're not a poor country and can afford more than just a ball

I played full back and goalie as a kid. I was brutal on the field so I think the coach was asked by other kids' parents to move me. I always got the job done though.

As an adult, I get into it on for US vs. Other games, but I otherwise don't keep up.

No. Fag sport. Rugby all the way (league preferably)

Rugby, especially the seven or eleven ones are way funnier.

american "sports"
>blunt
>interrupted
>comercialized
>straightforward, but with extremely complex rules
>arbitrary point system

European 'sports'
>graceful
>continuous
>only one 15 minute break per 90 minutes of playtime
>shoot ball between poles with foot, no touchy. that's it
>1 point per scored goal

Too complex is the main one.

We have rugby, which is already ingrained in our culture and played throughout the world (but most notably the commonwealth).

We also don't like multiple breaks in our sports.

I enjoy watching European soccer when it come on, but fuck that shitty American version.

I like hockey, soccer and football. I just hate how soccer players fake injuries all the time.

basketball is monkey hoops and baseball puts me to sleep.

rugby is cool too. Lacrosse is for rich fags and tennis is for fag fags.

>Be America
>bad at real sports
>invent pretend sports like baseball and football
>only let Japan play so you can justify calling it a "world series"

it will always be a minority sport.

i think football should be happy with that, the whole "soccer is taking over the US" is bullshit.

That just means that you're football is more about the coaches and less about the players.

All of the players are just chess pieces that get told how to execute each play, there's no individual brilliance on the part of the player except in executing the pre-determined play.

The more you watch the game the more you realize the point system in football is actually genius. It is designed to produce close interesting games and hard strategic choices. The break down on conversion points and touchdowns v field goals etc. is meant to produce very interesting situations.

Well seeing as how the US is becoming more Hispanic, yes.
(0-7 rest in paz Mexico)

Our team just needs more talent, right now we're fucking clumsy and jagged.
We're a baby trying to learn to walk.
We don't have an art like Brazil did and we definently aren't as precise and tactical as Germany.

I really only watch sports when tournaments are being played, except the Super Bowl but I just to go smoke some weed.

Basketball is fun to watch and play, 5'9" but can shoot threes like a motherfucker.
Football is always boring as shit and I only go to parties for it but now to watch it.

I really like Wrestling, I was a wrestler in school, I wish more people would be into it as I think it's the manliest sport.

Opinions, Sup Forums?

It is though, go to any city and you'll see tons of kids with Messi and Ronaldo shirts.

We hate football (american), because there are not tricks involved, or skill required in handling the ball, and it seems boring to watch someone just run with a ball in his hand to the other end of the field. Also, it looks like a pussy version of rugby, because of the equipment used. Plus it's just more fun and easy to play soccer. Honestly schoolyard soccer is quite entertaining, because there is just a desire to play, and people usually do tricks and stuff, because there is no incentive to play "professionally" because you MUST win.

There were thousands of empty seats at the USA-Ecuador game in Seattle. Seattle is the capitol of US soccer fans and the Copa tournament is the biggest international tournament outside the World Cup that the US can play in

So the fact that we couldn't sell out our biggest fucking tournament in our own fucking country is proof we don't give a goddamned fuck about this silly sport.

how is "one point per touchdown, only counts if you score the free kick" not a superior scoring system?

>5 foot 9 inches

Manlet

I think the US will slowly get better, but you need better infrastructure, scouting and development. Pump money into it like you do into American football and basketball.

I'm the same height and I like basketball too

Well America is getting faggier every year so I don't see how long we can resist soccer

Can they have a tied game of 0-0 or 1-1?

>So the fact that we couldn't sell out our biggest fucking tournament in our own fucking country is proof we don't give a goddamned fuck about this silly sport.

It was actually big before WW1, into the 1920s. Especially in the North.

But splits among the administration and governance of the sport led to its decline, and it was supplanted by other sports.

Soccer is fucking boring compared to football. Soccer is just 100% reacting to where the ball is. Football is like chess, every movement is scripted and the decisions by the coaches are like half the fucking game.

I always laugh when people claim football is a game for idiots. The mental boxing match that takes place on every single play in football is fascinating. Whereas in my view soccer players are just running around looking for a lucky break.

There are those americans who think football is cool because it's foreign and those who think it sucks for the same reason. Idk but from what I've read and seen during the last world cup it seems the interest in this sport is growing in America.

>tfw long wavy hair
Guaranteed pussy

As long as you're above 5'8 there really is no problem usually

It was never as big as baseball. Baseball became the national pasttime in the 19th century. Fuck, both sides of the Civil War commonly would play pick-up baseball games in between drills/marching

to be honest, the US team is not fun to watch, seeing that they get their ass handed to them by teams like Ghana

Soccer is the world's most popular sport because all it requires is a ball, so shit tier countries like yours play it because they can't afford to play hockey.

Boxing is the manliest sport but wrestling is right behind it

>Football is like chess

And that's why it's so boring to watch. With real football you get to see some art and improvisation. The player's talent gets to shine, it's not all about the coach.

Its just not as fun to watch compared to Football and Hockey

>this is what faggots actually believe

This is not untrue. The QB and coach are the brain of the team. I simply like the chess-like nature of the game compared to a more schoolyard type continuous play game. Every player is like a unique piece of an engine with a different job for every single play and every single formation.

However that is not to say the individual players do not have to make pre snap and post snap reads. That is also key to the game.

Then what would happen if you went for the 2 point conversion?

Honestly, I'm surprised we've been doing as well as we have in these past tournaments.

I predict in the next 20 years we'll have a good ass team.
As the sport becomes more popular and better players are born there will be more money put in it.

US fans are already top teir and not cynical like a lot of team's fans so I can't wait.

>sports

What the FUCK is this? Normie's get out of my safe space get out out out!!!!
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Back to Sup Forums you low IQ mongrel

I watched the last superbowl after learning the rules and really enjoyed it. I honestly prefer American football for some of the reasons you stated.

Soccer fucking sucks. It's boring as shit and the only reason it's starting to show up more in America is because of all the fucking spics and shitty parents looking for easy sports for their coddled little womb goblins where they wont get hurt.

I do.

Eh, boxing now is just a big fucking show.
Wrestling will always stay true and be a show of complete strength and knowledge.

>/spol/ thread

who's watching LeGod win one for da land tonight?

7-1

Football has multiple ways to score worth different points each. In poorball the only strategy you have to worry about is positioning. In football you not only have to strategize positioning but also strategize which method you will use to score, or even if you want to strategically give the other team the ball. There's an extra layer of complexity that makes football incompatible with shitskin nations where poorball is popular for its simplicity.

No, not when teams take acting classes to dive better.

I like to watch this webm often, somehow there are always some lovely bits I missed the other times

6'4 defender here for high school. can confirm it is very fun to beat someone with a metal pole

>Also, it looks like a pussy version of rugby, because of the equipment used

This argument I've never understood. Every year in the US you hear of at least one kid dying or being paralyzed because of how hard they are hitting each other, how often do kids die playing rugby?

The pads are just like boxing gloves, they protect your opponent from some specific types of injuries but they aren't there to protect the opponent, they are there so you can hit as hard as humanly possible while disregarding the consequences

>implying football and basketball aren't dominated by black guys

Soccer is simply better because you have to be fast and have some actual talent unlike most of the positions in football.

Not to mention you have to be an actual athlete and not some fat son of a bitch.

I've seen a lot of Mexicans in Track and Field, Cross Country (kek), and Wrestling too.

I have said it before and I will say it again. There is one reason we do not like soccer. And that is because Americans hate weakness, so when you show me a sport that has fully grown men rolling on the ground screaming because someone bumped into them, do you really think I'm going to pay to watch that

Soccer is the shitiest sport on earth. Hockey Master race

I don't like this either but the rules encourage shit like that.

> Football is like chess, every movement is scripted and the decisions by the coaches are like half the fucking game.

Well, that's the problem. American football makes sense in a professional setting only. But if you are together with a bunch of friends and want to play some sports, you don't have a coach and no tactic. You just play for fun. The game is made challenging by the fact that you have to control the ball with your feet. Whereas if you play american football with friends, is not really that fun, because there is not much challenge in the game.

Also, players from good soccer clubs don't run around looking for a lucky break. The coach has to make passing strategies so that the players can create free spaces towards the goal. Look how a team like Barcelona or Real Madrid plays. Every pass is carefully planned, and player positions as well. Combine that with good technical ball handling abilities, and you get a goal.

Hockey and Soccer are a lot alike tbqh.
In terms of positions and tactics anyways.

Hockey is brutal as fuck but expensive to play.
