It's a very unusual movement, since southern Italy, and to some extent most people outside Rome, Milan etc. have had almost no political effect on Italy at all. But with this movement they are having more of an effect.
One reason is they are not acting like traditional southern Italian voters who feel they can never get anything done and then their politics are just bitter about things. They work to organize and make small constructive steps to get things done and it is working very well.
This is threatening to the power structure of Rome, Milan and the EU central bankers and such though, so I wonder how they all will combine to try to crush this movement if it gains more power.
