Ok guys so I decided to listen to some so called "real emo" bands like Rites of Spring, American Football, Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap'n Jazz, Texas Is The Reason, Split Lip, Kill Holiday, Braid etc. and the bands are either dated hardcore punk or lame, boring indie rock. I like emo pioneers like Hawthy Heights, Brand New and My Chemical Romance and real emo like Lil Peep (rest in peace real emo pioneer), 93FEETOFSMOKE, VELVETEARS, lil job for a cowboy, killedmyself, In Snakes I Bathe, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, and nothing,nowhere. etc. Can someone explain why the so called "real emo pioneers" like americ anfootball, Sunny day Real Estate or Rites of Spring are such a big deal when it is not good music? Like none of the musicians had fringes or face tattoos wtf?? What is it about those bands I am supposed to enjoy? It isn't even real emo

ok so I also listened to the so called "real screamo" bands. I like some good skramz like Underoath and (early) blessthefall but the "tr00 sceamo" I heard (Jeromes Dream, pageninetynine, City of Caterpillar, Circle Takes The Square, I Would Set Myself On fire For You) was not very good

For anyone wandering into this thread actually looking for emo recs, this is a good start. I'll post another one that's organized chronologically, but isn't as comprehensive.

2/2. My last word of advice is to not give up after a couple of albums: emo is a very broad genre, so just because you hate one emo album doesn't mean you'll hate the whole genre. If you listen to a lot of indie rock, some more accessible emo groups would be Worst Party Ever, teen suicide (not really emo but it bridges the gap), and Mom Jeans. Don't listen to Front Bottoms.
