Actually the problem is urban areas have become too gentrified in recent decades. Rich hipsters seldom make interesting music because they have no real struggle in their life. That's why the gritty NYC of the 70s had a thriving music scene but it disappeared as the Bronx and Bed-Stuy became overlaid with cappuccino shops and fashion boutiques.
