/cyc/ - Vuelta stage 9

froomewinslol

>The Route: Stage 9 is a copy of the 2015 Vuelta’s stage 9 and the only difference on the route is one of spelling, then it was Jávea for the intermediate sprint, today it’s Xàbia as the Vuelta makes more use of local languages and nomenclature as devolution hangs in the air. It was the day Tom Dumoulin and Chris Froome duelled, the Briton surging with 300m to go only for Dumoulin to sprint past in the final moments (pictured).

>It’s another stage where the action comes late, 120km warm-up to the day’s difficulty, the Puig Llorença, 3.2km at 9.2% but crucially with some steep 15% sections. The race graphic above says 22%. In 2015 it said 19% but the slope is more 15% on the steep parts. Either way it’s enough to rob momentum and make it a very hard climb.

>The Finish: the same climb but different. the climb up the Puig Llorença again but with the final 750m they fork left on a new road to the finish line, 4.1km at 8.9% and the stretch to the finish line includes more high teen gradients. They’ll be catching the riders across the line.

A flat coastal procession past white sandy beaches and inviting bays, a day of sol y playa if you watch it all on TV. It’s all a warm-up for the double ascension of the Puig Llorença with its steep slopes and another Made-For-TV stage finish.

Reminder that Contador will finish on the podium

>tfw literally nobody even close to your level

Stamina for this stage

The finish

veloviewer.com/segments/5270481

I know this isn't the thread to ask it, but I may as well pop my head in.
If I wanted to get a real stiff track frame for smashing it around the city on (like a Mash), what would you recommend?

You got some nice tunes other than this one?

The 2015 Finish was honestly the best 15 minutes of cycling I've ever seen and what made Big Tom my favourite rider
youtube.com/watch?v=6uXd1j8yLXo&feature=youtu.be

How much would you spend on it? Good quality frames don't come cheap

Here's one half price anyway

Cherish Froome
Cherish Sky
Cherish GB

adding this to my ride playlist desu

Poels is looking really nice and skelly even more so than Froome.

>Dem upperarms thinner then his forearms.

Mirrin.

From same musician or same theme

>Nelson Oliveira
Be afraid Froome, very afraid

Poor Debusschere

even watching the replay I don't think Dumoulin will win that stage

really makes me think

Is Chris Froome the GOAT?

Poels is the heir to Skeletor's throne.

He is the chosen one.

yes, but maybe not ever

He's a system baby

Poor Cannondale

i do this every day

>not starting with the stage profile
I had to actually search for this thread, baka
Also cannondale riders about to go fucking full on stage win hunting lmao

Next year Sky will have a giant mobile hotel.

Looks dry folks

What's the temperature like?

What exactly happened? I saw only after accident and he was quite hurt.

Why don't the other teams just try harder than Team Sky?

I'm not sure, tbqh.

111% is impossible

...

He crashed in guard rail and has been pushed to other side by impact

Only 15 posters, goddamn.

Cannondale considering crowdsourcing

$100 minimum. I'd give it.

slipstreamsports.typeform.com/to/TveqQM

Feel bad for cannondale team lads :(

how much is a good road bike?

i went into a shop and they were asking £800 minimum so i walked right back out

$100 minimum donation to be in line for the reward scheme. Sure you could give less.

Anyone here watching Schaal Sels too?

Also, any working streams for the Bretagne Classic?

>tfw suffered two punctures on todays 100km ride

You're gonna have to turn around and walk straight back in.

Pay what you can afford. If you cycle regularly you'll get used to the prices.

A solid commuter bike should be more in the 500 range.

Holy shit that building with the two towers and a cone between them. Doesn't feel safe lads.

Bretagne is on eurosportplayer
here's a french stream too:
firstone.tv/Live/France/France-3-12

I just came in, what's happening with them?

Sponsorship seems to have failed at the last minute, unless someone can bail them out of this hare-brained crowdfund works they're going down the tubes.

F

Lets hope it motivates them to race very agressively this Vuelta, kind of like IAM Cycling did last year.

bud i have £300 to spend. i see bikes for like 1.5k that shit more than my car.

Dang. Just find a sketchy oil-rich government to support them like Astana.

Cycling is an expensive hobby, lad.

in for Venezuela Cycling.

Pay what you can afford, bruv.

buy one second hand

define 'good'
even this plane meme tiagra carbon is £900, you can't get much cheaper than that for a carbon frame, it's impossible.
yeah, you can get a btwin lump of shit for three hundred, but how 'good' is that?

This, really. 300 lbs should be plenty for a decent used bike.

With £300, I'd probably buy a second hand bike. Should bring you something useful.

Then you'd best look for something second hand. The folks in /n/ bbt can help you out.

They reach into the musette only to find it's empty

planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBPXSLPTIAG/planet-x-pro-carbon-tiagra-4700--bike

>They reach into the musette only to find it's empty
kek

when does it start?

You don't need a carbon frame to enjoy riding.

It started 49 minutes ago

This, I'd rather buy an alu frame bike with 105/Ultegra than a carbon bike with Tiagra 2bh

HA!
I AM cycling, it means they are Cycling.

You should be able to get a decent beginner road bike for about 1k euro. You don't even need a carbon frame, although you will probably want one later on. I know it seems expensive but if you're serious about cycling you will not regret it one bit.

guys i'm not going pro or anything...

what's wrong with this, less than £200

halfords.com/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/mizani-ar1-mens-road-bike

also yes i'm looking at second hand but i'm afraid someone's gonna rip me off since i can't tell how much a bike SHOULD cost

ETA until first climb?

I really like my Giant Escape 2 (aluminum frame, carbon fork).

>yes, well
>yes, well
>yes, well

>halfords
enjoy ur untimely death lmfao

>untimely
You don't know if he's got anything worth living for

I'm assuming he does if he's about to buy a road bike, or maybe this is his one last chance idk

please explain buddy. i haven't been on a bike since i was a kid.

southcoastbikes.co.uk/Dont-Buy-a-Cheap-Bike

Why don't cyclists attach a bike to the front of their own bikes so they get a slipstream all of the time?

Wew I haven't seen that before, that was great.

this 2bh

That is what's known as a "bike shaped object"

This one is more reasonable.
halfords.com/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/carrera-virtuoso-road-bike

Really made me think

Try a bike like this

errrrr

You can buy a velomobile, that's basically the same thing. Fairings are banned by the UCI tho.

I'd love one of those goofy things, cruising at 40+ km/h would be choice.

halfords cheap bikes have a bad rep for falling apart at the wrong time, partly because they are 'built' by half trained chimps in half the time it should take whilist in semi-darkness, I have watched this happen in front of my eyes.

>what's wrong with this, less than £200
In principle nothing, but you will probably want a better one in one year. It doesn't even have integrated shifters and clipless pedals.

well fair enough but the "buy cheap buy twice" saying applies to everything. i tell people not to buy cheap laptops (mine cost £1400) because having a good, fast reliable laptop is important. you can also skimp out on a cheap coffee maker, pair of boots, mattress... and pay for it later, but at the end of the day we only have so much money and sometimes have to buy cheaper things.

Most bikes of a certain standard don't come with any pedals at all so that last one is kind of a pointless claim desu

>clipless pedals
>you need to clip
why?

you clip without a toe clip

I can afford that one. Could you give me names of some brands that produce affordable bikes so I can check out some more?

Look at commuter bikes, not pure road bikes. Giant and Novara have good options.

What do you think of this for a budget bike?

wiggle.co.uk/vitus-razor-claris-2017-road-bike/

Not looking to buy myself. Just browsing and thought this was decent value for a cheap bike.

If you buy a cheap bike it will come with cheap parts that will break and need replacing. So it will end up costing more anyway. Also it will be heavy, slow and uncomfortable.

I thought /tdf/ told us that The La Vuelta would be exciting this year /cyc/?

>Not many Italians, they tend to stay at home
great commentary Kirby

It would be if Froome wasn't on another level to everyone else

Yes, I know. In fact a good rule of thumb for buying a road bike would probably be that you start considering them at a price at which they are sold without pedals.

yes and it has been good so far. Whats wrong with it?

I missed the meme hill at the end of yesterday's stage :(

How much are these bikes worth in the Vuelta?

this
Don't try and get a cheap good racing road bike, because there is no such animal. Get a cheap commuter road bike instead, it will hold up better and be easier to ride.

>using pedals

Nice
