Why did the French banish Napoleon to a remote island in Africa instead of beheading him like the French royal family?

So he could think long and hard about what he had done.
Because he deserved better
The French didn't have a choice in the matter sweetie. The British were more civilised
>inherited power

I think there might of been a certain level of respect for the man, from his opponents and colleagues that is. I would think lopping off someones head is reserved for criminals, traitors and bitter enemies, not respected opponents.
Just guessing though.
chosen by god, fgt

1. It was the Anglo not us
2. They feared that if they killed Nappy, wed go to war again
real question is why was he banished to a british island hmmmmm
Because he was a naughty boy who needed a spanking
because britain
>lost it because of a coalition of european states
you're the ones who formed the coalition in the first place
the "continental system" was specifically to choke Britain to death with trade embargoes. embargoes don't work unless everyone participates (much like the current sanctions on Russia) so that's what you did
I always thought it was kind of funny how he got downgraded from Elba to St. Helena the second time. Bit of a catty thing to do
It wasn't the French that did it
also the Euro powers didn't want to make a martyr out of him
