Der Untergang

His only half-decent movie was "Der Eisbär" which ripped off Pulp Fiction so hard it's essentially copyright infringement and some hollywood exces could probably sue if they ever came aware of its existence...

too different to compare, both are quite intense

Metropolis
Nosferatu

Man that was easy

This.

They also share a hiytory of incredibly troubled production overcome by tremendous personal efforts of the respective directors and crew. They'd make a good double feature...

Fucking hell, phone the burn ward lol

>ywn be Merkel's pusy slave

>Nosferatu

The original or the Herzog one? Both are good but very different.

Toni Erdmann

What is it about the Germanic spirit that makes them so... cold? German films are cold and sterile. I love Italian cinema, because it's full of passion, grand ideas, a complete love of life, etc. but German cinema and German people in general disgust me. Even the greats like Lang and Murnau seem authoritative and psycho-rigid.

The Fritz Lang one

Oh wait you wrote Nosferatu. Murnau's Nosferatu.

Die Welle

The Germanic spirit is cold and distant because it soars so high above everybody else.

pretty funny actually

That's just a century long trend in german art in general that was reinforced by post-war depression and the precarious conditions and tensions created by the existence and later collapse of the DDR.

When Schiller, the epitome of German literature, wrote "die leiden des jungen W." thousands of readers fell into depression and killed themselves. This a historic fact. Such are the notions of German art, which includes film, of course...

Can't think of one.

>When Schiller, the epitome of German literature, wrote "die leiden des jungen W."

is this bait? I don't get it

Is Das Leben des Anderen kino?

>Schiller

With German literature it's either Schiller or Goethe, you basically have a 50/50 chance...

Schiller is the quintessential german author by reputation and general consensus. His works were so depressing that some of his readers commited suicide. Just a detail that fits the observations itt of german art being gloomy and depressing. Or to put it more simply: really makes you think.

Liegen lernen

der Anderen not des Anderen, friend
