Why is it that in an age where sexual freedom is further than ever, art has stagnated completely? A children's show from 1995 such as Evangelion, has more sex and gore in it than every single movie in the marvel cinematic universe combined. I just don't get it.

fuck you

Stop posting your ugly face, slag.

>rating art by its amount of sex and gore
lmao

...

Better?

Well, I mean, in the comics they were usually kind of intense. But don't you think it's weird how it used to be a staple, like in Back to The Future being all about sex, to the last four or five stars wars not even having kisses?

Shoehorned romances are extremely annoying and take away from the story proper.

go back to /animefaggots/ please

> marvel

Well you don't have to shoehorn them. You can just have normal, engaging love stories.

Why don't you leave the anime website if you are upset?

>the last four or five stars wars not even having kisses
Rogue One had a kiss.
TFA didn't.
Revenge of the Sith had a kiss.
Attack of the Clones had a kiss.

>an age where sexual freedom is further than ever
It's not, kid.

>Rogue One had a kiss.

Where? Jyn and Andor didn't kiss at the end

Well, I only watched the force awakens out of all the ones you listed so I'm sort of right.

>art has stagnated completely
wut

>A children's show from 1995 such as Evangelion, has more sex and gore in it than every single movie in the marvel cinematic universe combined
So a sci-fi anime and superhero movies are the extent of your artistic knowledge?

You would expect biggest blockbusters to be a sample of the culture of a whole, and they probably are, but for some reason, it would seem we are more prudish than ever.

>in an age where sexual freedom is further than ever,

eh, except if you're a white male...

What the fuck is your problem?

The only people who like gratuitous sex in movies are teens who aren't getting laid and can't access porn.

read: people who don't exist

Somebody's blind

>sexual freedom is further than ever

It's actually getting worse, especially in murican culture.

>Americans
>Culture

Nice one

the only culture that matters
why do you think it's so popular around the world?
even in muslim countries

Dunno. Why does anyone do anything.

>sexual freedom
For women. Male sexual freedom is the worst it's ever been.

it was a rhetorical question, broseph

>For women

Yes, but only until they turn 30 and hit the wall/become crazed unstable unfuckeable cat-hoarding landwhale roasties lmao

sex objectifies women.

They can still easily get laid at 30, the issue is that a decade of fucking 10/10s completely warps their worldview and they'll never enjoy marriage.

> art

There's no boundaries to push in the traditional or expected sense because it's part of the culture or expected. Not to mention the breadth of things available allows for a lot more self selection, but also an attempt to appeal to a wider audience in order to take up a larger chunk of the limited market share.

This doesn't really answer your question but I'm saying it anyway. People today have turned into coddled infants who can't stand anything but the most innocuous nonsense at the risk of being offended or offending others. I am a millennial but there is no doubt in my mind it's the worst generation of people that have ever existed outside of outright barbarous societies of hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Society is a huge fucking trash heap these days and no one is willing to do anything of daring or worth.
Trump did though.

Japan still does great anime and movies.

America has always been backwards and prude. Even with adult movies and television, they still only express minimum blood and sexuality because of americas sensitivity.

>art
>Evangelion
Yeah, it is. Big league.

Why is Asuka so into Kaji?

Because he's an adult and she wants to be an adult.

I think it's because she wants to be/thinks she is more mature than she actually is. Kaji is just a scruffy older dude who seems cool/just dangerous enough.

broken girl who never had any attention as a child, never had any man in her life to teach her anything.

Basically daddy issues.

Yes, and films about that exist. See Blue Is The Warmest Colour for example. Shit's explicit.

How so? You can do anything you could before as long as there is consent. Or is that the problem?

Are you serious?

R U Kidding me

>it's an EoE shitposting thread

jesus senpai it really feels like i'm mentally trapped circa 2004 even though i'm 29 years old now.

Don't forget that Kaji's nailing Misato, so if she gets him to nail her that makes her more of a woman. It's not just any ordinary daddy issue, it's a full on electra complex. Though to be fair, half the folks in NERV have issues while Kaji's stable and confident even in the face of death, so of course he's the hottest shit. Fuck, I'm sure even Shinji wanted a piece at some point given how gay he was for Kaworu. Who killed Kaji anyway? I forgot, was it just some NERV mook?

...fuck, why is Evangelion still more interesting to talk about in non-meme terms than half the kino that came out this decade?

>the amount of sex and gore decide whether a movie is good or not

wat

That's what I'm saying! Eva's a good example, but the movies from the nineties and it's infinitely better than our current age of movies. Jurassic Park?

This kissing thing is actually starting to bug me though, now that I am trying to recall kisses in movies.

Marvel movies are for kids, Eva is for young adults.

It's indicative of the infantilization going on today.

>a 15 year old girl is attracted to a smooth hot 30 year old man that seems like he could fuck all of the women on the cast if he wanted to
>WHAT THE FUCK IS HER PROBLEM?

Don't get me wrong, she is a very troubled young lady, but I'm not sure there's anything all that strange about Asuka having a big old crush on Kaji

Eh, JP didn't hit me that hard. I'd go with Dark City or even the first Matrix movie.

I think OP doesn't necessarily mean so much as the sex and gore in itself, so much as a movie using mature themes to generate a powerful narrative instead of playing it safe by focusing too much on test audiences.

As for the few ones that stood out to me in recent times-I've heard some good things about The Accountant. The Hannibal series also mixed horror and drama very will in my opinion; I particularly like how while Fuller came out and said Mason didn't rape his sister in this version, if you look at the actors' body language you just KNOW that dynamic is going on between them. The real rape, the IMPACT of rape is still a defining factor in their motivations. And while I'll probably take some flack for this, I enjoyed Fury Road just as a study in the conflict between pure survival and holding onto humanity.

I think there was some good stuff this year, the problem is the marketeers and the goddamn execs have figured out it's easier to make big bucks by churning out generic garbage that doesn't really scare anyone but everyone's willing to give a watch with the family. So even the few auteurs out there have to pay a little lip service, but that doesn't mean the message doesn't get through.

Okay, fair enough.

I'm just saying-she saw her mom rip off a doll's head while mumbling her name, pretty sure she's got something to prove.

Wrong, Marvel movies are for toddlers. DC movies are for kids to laugh at the movie equivalent of HOW DO YOU DO, MY FELLOW KIDS?

EVA broke some new ground, but I think some of the message was lost in the filler. Personally I feel Paprika did a better job of seamlessly relating the cute moments with the drama and the supernatural shit without being overly opaque, not to mention providing better closure to the plot as a whole than Eva did prior to End of Eva.

Fuck, meant Paranoia Agent.

Paprika's still GOAT but that's a bit of an apples and oranges thing, not really the same kind of experience. And I'd also argue the anti-escapism bit is kinda undermined there by an ice queen spending the movie quietly in love with an obese manchild.

Because the only people who care about "sexual freedom" in kids cartoons are creepy pedos like you.

This board is the biggest bunch of pedophiles I've ever seen, although, I think I've only ever seen on at a time IRL, but you are literally on the lowest horse in the land when it comes to lecturing anyone on pedophilia.

And the French.

Watch some Wakfu, nigga. Get educated.

Okay, but this board doesn't make movies though, and few here actually pay for movies, so you can imagine why there are so few pedo cartoons being made for such a small audience.

What? No I can't. I don't even k ow what you're saying.

Wow, autistic and a pedophile. A every common combination.

I'm the one calling you a pedophile. I don't even go to the trouble of fucking normal girls, why would I try something that takes way more effort?

Kids movies make the most money because parents are retarded and give into their every demand regardless of quality.

Also the movie rating system like the ESRB is puritanical as fuck.

>Evangelion
>children's show

Once Avatar 2 is released capeshit will be dead.

...

Rating the general artistic landscape by how restrained its artistic expression is by cultural norms is perfectly reasonable.

>Once Avatar 2 is released

That fossil hasn't even started pre production yet

>an age where sexual freedom is further than ever
Are you honest to god from this planet?

this is what americans do in college

I can sum up the west's cultural stagnation in one word:

Reddit

The toxic groupthink on reddit, the anti-intellectualism masquerading as faux-intellectualism, the race to the lowest common denominator, the celebration of the banal as "quirky", and the rejection of both tradition and quality as "oppressive", means that reddit, far from being just a cliquey hugbox for plebs, is responsible for the complete atrophy of western civilization

>That little blue stripe is where her vulva is located.

I think it was someone from or someone that Seele sent.

>tfw you will never be able to pronounce Rei's name properly because japanese pronounce thier R's impossibly hard

>vulva

Surprised anybody on Sup Forums knows that word outside 'puffy vulva'. Most would have said 'vagina'. Though cleft of venus is the 'slit'.

This thread is still going since I posted that pic.

Wasn't EVA suppose to be a analogy to WW2 Japan? You know, fighting Angels, everything going great, then when the threat was over, the superior numbers and betrayal by the government fucked them over, resulting in the death of their known 'world'.

Pronounce R's as L's. That's it. Rally Vincent from Gunsmith Cats is actually called Larry according to her creator. Something about how the West assumes certain words are pronounced a certain way. So it'd be more like "Leh' rather than 'Reh'.

Everything in general was edgier back in the days of PG (which is now divided into PG and PG-13, and intriguingly there's minimal difference between either)

and irrelevant to the discussion but the EVA's manga is better imho

>american """men"""

Bull shit. What used to pass as pg13 when it was first created would be considered a hard R today.

The L is more of a rolling sound though, not just a 'la'. Not German rolling though.
You could say it's almost like Deh or Rdeh.

>Pronounce R's as L's. That's it.

no. thats not it at all. dont talk about shit you don't know about please.

who is this girl?

bump

Childhood is arguing over Asuka or Rei, adulthood is realizing that Misato makes more sense.

>mfw a Reifag tried to say that Rei was NGE's best girl near me

>not old enough to realise that Yui is the only true waifu

what did they mean by this ?

>turns the lights off
RRREEEEEEEEEE

bump

it means that Australian women are constantly horny

>tfw turning into that guy on the right irl
feels horrible man
