Why didn't the Emperor fight back?

Why didn't the Emperor fight back?

he was probably bored

Because the title wasn't called the empire strikes back.

He thought Vader was trying to give him high ground.

...

He was surprised, he launched all his electro juice, he triggered his "Vader shutoff protocol" anyway

>unlimited shilling
what did he mean by this?

Because he was too old to spin.

Too bad. That's a good trick.

kek

Why didn't he use the force to stop his fall and fly back up to shock vader and Luke?

...

He literally killed Vader, is that your idea of not fighting back?

He was a good friend

yeah because electricity and so on... but why he couldn't just jump to the ground?

Is that Vader had claws and he can't escape?

Why was he still shooting lightning when Vader lifted him?

Something like that would make you stop.

You think a crippled old man would be able to physically wrestle out of the grasp of a cyborg with super strength?

Well Vader was dying.

because he's an old white male and knows he can't compete against the powerful dark gentleman

Underrated post

>can spin, levitate and toss multiple heavy senate pods around like toys
>can send a grown man flying several meters out of a window with force lightning
>can do this and probably more all but 24+ years ago
>yoda was 800 years old and could still do plenty cool stuff with the force

There is really no reason why Sheev couldn't just blast Luke to death within a matter of seconds. Or even send Vader flying once he became hostile and picked him up. Instead he screams and lets Vader carry him to the edge of those rails.

Underrated.

>comparing yoda with a human

When ROTJ was made Sheev was just an old sorcerer with lightning powers, nothing more. Thus the blame, as ever, lies with the prequels for giving the Jedi all these crazy video game powers.

Sheev was a very old regular human. There's a pretty fucking huge difference between a 70 year old and a 95 year old when it comes to fitness. There's no logical inconsistency in his abilities between RotS and RotJ.

First movie:
>Your powers are weak, old man.
Last movie:
>An old man whose powers used to be great are now weak.
Oh shit what could it meeeen???????

While the prequels obviously count as "canon," the events in them clearly weren't planned when the original movies were filmed. All of that action ruined him for the same reason it ruined Yoda, because he was originally so cool thanks to what you didn't see him do
. Your imagination filled in the blanks when you saw the emperor of all space was this tiny ancient wizard. He was actually scary because his authority over someone like Vader as well as the entire empire made you wonder what dark shit he must be capable of.

He realized that with Vader turned back to good, there was no way he could find a worthy pawn to help him run the empire and he lost the will to live.

>mfw that scene in AOTC with Yoda pulling out his lightsaber and jumping everywhere
At least the Sheev lightsaber scene is memeworthy, seeing Yoda do that shit was just sad.

Yeah, if they had to be shown Fucking Shit Up both Yoda and Sheev should have exclusively used the force to fight with telekinesis. That still clashes with Yoda telling Luke that the force should never be used as a weapon though.

Ideally Yoda would manage to avoid all conflict, but if he absolutely had to be in a battle he could have had a sort of empty palm fighting style where you just can't harm him no matter what.

That picture is hilarious thanks to Vader, I guess since he's faceless so you instinctively assume he's reacting the same as Tarkin.

His machine side never died.

Almost spilled my drink laughing at this.

>Now young Skywalker you will die.
>No, no, no YOU WILL DIE

It wasn't his turn yet.

The prequels just ruin so much that I can't help personally ignoring them as canon.

The reason he doesn't kill Luke instantly is because he still hopes Luke will submit and become his apprentice, and if not, Palatine just enjoys toying with him.
Everything else makes sense if you think of how big a difference 20 years is when you're 70 vs 90 like that other user said.
Plus, the Force was never shown in any source (even the old EU) to have the powers of propulsion, if he'd Force Pushed the pit, it would have moved and not him. Regardless, it's a bottomless reactor pit, like what Maul fell into (they're common in the Star Wars galaxy for whatever reason), and outside of non canon vidya like Battlefront II, Sidious is never shown to have the power of flight or levitation.

This

It's so weird thinking of them as canon. Episode 1 is just non-existent for me. Probably because it adds absolutely nothing to the """story""" of Star Wars.

More proof that the prequels are superior.

Yoda should have simply set himself on fire in protest of the Jedi genocide. Get a grip guys; Yoda had to fight at some point. There's no way to write around it, so Lucas embraced it and had fun with the concept. And audiences enjoyed it, which doesn't mean much, but it does for the type of audience pleasing summer popcorn flick Star Wars epitomizes.

Yoda doesn't say that, he says a Jedi should use the force to defend, not to attack. And I'm pretty sure Yoda never actually uses the force offensively to hurt anyone in the prequels. He just returns whatever Sheev and Dooku throw at him.

He KOd the imperial guards with the force.

There's clearly a rule of two law happening here so what was the emperor expecting?

Take on Luke as an apprentice and kill Vader? Did he expect Vader not to notice? We know Vader was going to kill the Emperor and take Luke as an apprentice.

No need, he transported his soul to a clone he had in Byss.
For 20 years he traveled as a soul.

I always thought it looked goofy how the lightning doubled back on itself to hit Vader while Sheev just stayed frozen in the same pose

Is Sheev Palpatine a sociopath/psychopath or a strong Sith lord who keeps his emotions in check.

Vader committed treason and Sheev did nothing.

What was the meaning of this?

Is the clone called Sheeev?
Betrayal by a good friend is the most dire one of all. Sheev was in shock.

Yeah he says a Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defense, never for attack. How is that different from saying the force should never be used as a weapon?

Also are you implying that his ancient ass is naturally capable of jumping and flipping around and isn't using the force to do that?

yes he has hundrends of clones of himself

because he's mixed with an owl since ESB

he did but Vader also force pushed him down the pit

oh shit

He had unlimited power. Head of a galaxy spanning empire. Mastery of esoteric arts. Moon sized space stations. Yet he couldn't fill that empty void in his heart. That yearning for something more. For someone to love. To be loved. Vader was the closest thing to family, to a son to Sheev. Yet their relationship was founded on hate, not love. So he allowed Vader to throw him down that shaft. To end his misery.

From his point of view vader was't evil till he realized while falling that vader tossed him but by then he didn't have the high ground and gave up.

very briefly he did

this user gets it

as if it's needed at this point

He's a narcissist.
