>watching the shitty ripoff before the original
If you've never seen an Italian film then Cinema Paradiso is a beautiful introduction Then I'd suggest watching Malena and La Vita E' Bella, maybe a spaghetti western after that.
Save some classics like La Dolce Vita for once your a bit more comfortable with the style and you'll appreciate it more.
I don't want to give the impression that Italian cinema is something old, dusty and out of touch with the modern world.
La vita è bella isn't even Benigni best movie, it just won an oscar because
>muh holocaust

The country is old and stuck in the past.
Most west is, but Italy more.
il mostro is a lot better than piccolo diabolo
sedosa e abbandonata is my favorite italian comedy
i'd say the bicycle thieves, deep red, la dolce vita, the good, the bad and the ugly are good introductory movies
>The country is old and stuck in the past.
Wich is a good thing, progressivism
has failed.

Geez it was better when comedy showed butts and titties.
I miss those times.

Yes but as discussed in a previous thread: THE EUROPEAN CUT
The yanks butchered this movie.
>Cinema Paradiso
I agree with this
Cinema Paradiso, too, has different cuts.
The Italian one is longer, but more complete.

avoid neorealism unless you want to be turned off Italian movies forever, also avoid anything Fellini directed
