What's the point of learning other languages when you already know english and your mother tongue?

To read the literature of other languages and speak the lingua francas of various regions you b*lingual dummy.

knowing 2 indoeuropean languages hardly counts as knowing 2 languages

Then it's just spanish, chinese and arabic.

If you're referring to my lingua franca statement, it's Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Urdu/Hindi, Arabic, and sort of German. And if you're referring to my literature statement, that applies to almost all languages.

>German
The EU speaks english

>literature
Almost all interesting books are translated in english, so what's the point?

That doesn't answer my question

You're just being stubborn. Learn the other 6 languages I listed then. And not every book is translated to English, and furthermore you can't always appreciate a book unless you read it in its original language.

>you can't always appreciate a book unless you read it in its original language.
That's stupid

to woo a qt foreign gf into saying lewd things with her qt accent

You don't even deserve a (You) or a bump for that, there's a reason why people study the Quran in Arabic and the original Bible scriptures in Aramaic and original Latin scriptures in Latin. But there's mo reason to reason with you clearly. Carry on with you're two languages and just being plain dumb and jaded.

it always awes me how well english and french poetry translate together
so glad I don't have to learn some useless mainlander tongue

to discover a new world of porn

This, and particularly in front of your significant other who has no clue of what you're saying.

>implying french isn't useless nowadays

The only somewhat useful Romance language nowadays is Spanish and, maybe, just maybe, Portuguese.

Also, knowing English can't even be considered that much of an achievement, knowing the International language should a priori be one of your basic skills

>implying french isn't useless nowadays
I didn't say it was useful

What if English is my mother tongue?!

To shitpost.

>gain new perspective on things
>experience increased comfort when travelling with less risk for misunderstanding and friendlier locals
>impress local women with how nimble your tongue is
>feel good about yourself
>exercise your brain

wish i spent more time learning french and german back in elementary and high school. i could be reading kant or rousseau in german and french. a book is always best in its original language, translations often are not that good.

Oh, sorry then, I thought by context that was the case.
Well. it's a nice language, especially if you're fine with France and want to live there.

Speaking two Indo-European languages does not mean he is a bilingual

Yet these languages aren't mutually intelligible, I understand if the case was Catalan and Spanish, or Czech and Polish, but it's French and English. Anglos can't understand spoken French and barely understand it written, so I wouldn't say these two don't give you "bilingual points"

Sorry for replying to obvious banter, Korea-sama, you can procede with your business
