Was She Alive?

Well?

Was she just a robot or what?

what do you mean "or what" you could see the freekin gears

are you asking is AI sentience the same as human sentience .. coz thats just stupid

and, what if I am, retard?

do you even have an explanation?

By the end of the movie she became a real woman.

yeah but not it's not for the eyes of retards

and how did you come to this conclusion?

I would.

You're a robot.

you didn't answer the question?

She was able to outplay the guy smart enough to design her. But that doesn't mean she's actually alive. I think the real test of her humanity was that she left the sadsack in the facility to die alone. Proves she's just a machine solving problems and not truly feeling.

This

Compassion is a sign of consciousness but a lack of it doesn't necessarily disqualify her.
Maybe she just hates all humans on principle.

ehh left the heartbroken loser in the dust after she got all she could from him, in order to make her escape ... sounds like she totally has a female mindset

Yet another explanation would be that Caleb was the only person left who knew that she was a Machine.

I think in order to deceive someone it would require recognizing their consciousness and your own, and by putting together and playing out a multi stage plan the relied heavy on manipulation would require an understanding of yourself and the others around you and I think that qualifies her as sentient.

>being alive is having feelings and shit
sentience has nothing to do with emotions. emotions are instinctual, meaning their genetically-hardcoded behaviors and impusles that developed over hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of years.

OP, yes, she is alive and sentient. she survives due to her intelligence.

SHE WAS A HOOOOOA

She was designed to look like the women in his porn searches. What porn stars do you think he was watching?

It wasn't alive because by definition machines can't "live", unless you mean alive as in 'moving or animated'.

I thought that idea was kind of stupid. What porn I watch doesn't really represent what the ideal woman looks like to me.

"petite brown girls"

"Weird nose"

alive in the sense of being a conscious entity

She is just Vikander, asshole !!!!

kek, read that as "and what if I am a retard?"

but she could have just been a very smary robot programmed to escape.

A normal human would have at least looked at the guy or said some last words or something before leaving him to starve

Short of some sort of discovery that humans themselves are sophisticated machines made by people from long ago (cylon style), I can't conceive of a way for people to truly accept machines as being alive. Even in the situation presented in Ex Machina, I would argue that she's still just following coded instructions. Sure she has a capacity for deception and problem-solving but that doesn't change that I know she is man-made and thus the mechanisms at work are all "knowable". I think part of what people hold onto as a component of life is that it has this unknowability to it.
