Yeah, that's the issue. A law not allowing kids to buy actual knives is fine, what the Brits actually have in effect is absolutely retarded.
But did you buy said knife or was it just a kitchen knife in your house? Most kids by a certain age should/will learn thru actual experience that pans are hot for a reason, to be careful pouring a drink, and that knives are sharp and can cut them.
