I grew up in a small town of roughly 120 people in northern Queensland. I went to a small school of merely 40 people, and that school was originally supposed to tailor for students from Prep to Year 12.
When I was 10, the government cut funding out from under us for medical help. We couldn't get a small government funded practice, so we had to flatten out a large plot of land and set up lights for the RFDS to come when we needed help.
Merely 2 years later, a girl from the family two properties up died after she cut her leg on a barbed wire fence and went into septic shock. A year after that a boy who lived in the town died after he tripped over a rock and smashed his head into a mailbox. Both times the RFDS attempted to come but they were not there in time.
We had two police officers in the town, they had absolutely no support from the police service. They attempted to never book anyone if they could, because that would mean someone from another police station would have to drive for 3 1/2+ to pick them up. Their houses were both known to the town and if a criminal wanted to, he could get rid of both of them. One died when I was 19, and it took two years for someone to fuck up bad enough to get placed there.
My school was hit very badly, when I was 15 it had to sell a lot of it's property and stop teaching any new students. We only had English, Mathematics, Science, and History to learn off. Most of the books were older than us, and the buildings were in such poor repair that you could jump inside and watch the flakes of paint (and whatever else) fall down from the ceiling.
When I was 17, the school shut down permanently. We were lucky enough to be within connection range to a Telstra phone tower, but the connection was extremely spotty and it costed a lot, before this we used satellite phone. We had to drive for about 5 1/2 hours to Cairns so I could complete the test to graduate high school.

They were going on about education, but they did not move a finger to help us. They advocated for better infrastructure, but we could not even get a stable power connection or get town water.
They praised the amazing universities, but me and my siblings had little to no chance to go to one. The medical system was claim to be the best in the world, but our options were limited to listening for a propeller plane.
We were constantly ignored. It seemed like every year the government would pass a new law or make a new policy that would fuck us (as farmers no less) over. It got to the point where we had to take loans out just to survive.
I can understand why people who have grown up in cities do not see this as a problem. Just as they are not aware of my struggles, I am not aware of theirs. BUT, something needs to be said about this on a national level.
