the difference boils down to just this:
pre1980 guitarists collected the finest gibson models, had up to a dozen guitars worth several $1000s each and focused on upgrading pickups and maintaining tube amps.
somewhere around late 90s the average guitarist settles on couple modest $500 guitars and the rest of the money on revising and upgrading their utterly massive pedalboards

Vibrato is your own personal touch. Practice it to the point where it sounds good to you. BB King for example has an extremely exaggerated vibrato that would be "wrong" in classical music but it's a huge part of his sound.

someone correct if I'm wrong, but acoustic players typically do not make much use of vibrato or string bends, the string tension on acoustic is much greater than on a strat strung up with 9s for example.

they are overpriced for what they are, just save up for a MIM Fender I had a couple VM Squiers, the pickups were horrible and the fretwork was really bad for 400 bucks. It looked like a beaver had gnawed on the side of the fretboard on my VM Jag. MIM Fenders are proper guitars and a used one will be the same or just a little bit more money.

I'm building an unholy abomination parts project here. Is there a simple way to wire 3 pickups in a tele? I thought maybe 3-way switch for the 2 pickups and then the volume knob for the last pickup and master tone, if that makes sense. Either that or I make a new control plate out of plastic I have laying around simply with 3 volume controls, one for each pickup. Any other ideas?
