Based China.

why is this not a surprise

star wars is a mediocre children's science fiction series that relies entirely on the nostalgia of manchildren

>china is full of plebs when they cause [movie you don't like] to do well

>china is full of patricians when they cause [movie you don't like] to fail

...

Did you actually read the article? It basically said that since the Chinese didn't have the original trilogy, they don't give a shit about Star Wars.

This also explains why I thought this movie sucked while everyone else I know loved it. I saw Star Wars as a kid but never thought much of it.

Basically if you already like Star Wars you will like these new SW movies because they are just giving you more of the same.

If you don't give a fuck about Star Wars you will see through them and realize they suck.

>Entire film franchise is predicated on appealing to liberal America's sense of nostalgia and need for "diversity"
>Doesn't do well in a market that doesn't give a shit about either

wow color me surprised

China: 1 week: $30 million dollars

World Wide Total: $921 million dollars

really, too soon to tell -- some movies accumulate over time

You can't really judge if the film is good or not based on the opinion of chinks. They have a pretty shit taste, good movie for them means just big sfx spectacle with simple plot and simple characters

>Did you actually read the article?
which doesn't contradict what I say, heavy racial baiting was not enough.

^ This
I check out the highest grossing Chinese movie "The Mermaid", it's got shit-tier comedy which is apparent from the very first scene with the tour group.

I'd expect this humour from a crappy hollywood-made comedy film or one of the worse episodes of The Simpsons.

Apparently Chinese directors think "Fat ugly man with mermaid tail rising out of bath tub" is the funniest thing ever whereas I found it cringey as hell.

Also the male lead has the worst looking moustache I've ever seen. Even ugly pedofucks you see in mugshots have better taste in facial hair than him.

you can't neither based on the opinion of ameritards clapping fanboys.
>rogue one
>any good

The Chinks are patrician enough to know the whole Star Wars franchise is trash.

But not enough to realize that Warcraft is a crappy Warhammer Fantasy clone franchise with dindu-nuffin/we-da-good-guis Orcs, but Chinks literally blew the fucking box office for the movie apart because the entire country is filled with gold farmers.

Chinks are just as fucking retarded you cum sniveling faggots.

The chinese have shit taste, do you see the kind of crap that makes it to the top of their box office?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_China

Had they made it a love story between Jyn and Andor with a happy ending it would have probably done ok.

>Basically if you already like Star Wars you will like these new SW movies because they are just giving you more of the same.

youtube.com/watch?v=lzTNdgjvlr0&feature=youtu.be&t=329

Good. About time we stop appealing to these dumb chinks and make white movies for white men.

>Good. About time we stop appealing to these dumb chinks and make white movies for white men.

kek

Star Wars isn't for men, it's for manchildren.

>Warcraft is a crappy Warhammer Fantasy clone
In what sense are they alike user?

>being this mad people enjoy going to the theater to watch a movie about the game they grew up playing in LAN centers.
>Thinking Warcraft is about World of Warcraft
You must be the bell of the ball at parties m8

The movie is still gonna make a billion, so I doubt it really matters.

isnt it for political agendas?

>blame the movie doing poorly on race/women instead of lack of star wars interest/culture

typical tv

It'll limp past $1b, if it even gets there.

They will easily make 250-300 billion from blurays.

TFA didn't do too well on bluray, so no.

nigga barely anybody buys bluerays now

>131,313,257

Okay, so it'll get 100k.

The original Star Wars trilogy was never shown in China. It's not a cultural phenomena there.

Doesn't surprise me. China, and the east in general, don't fall for pandering.

The only way Disney is going to get them interested in Star Wars is putting in some solid white male leads (they love those), giving some great action scenes, and dropping the boring shit. There's been reports of Chinese audiences finding R1 "boring" and we all know why. The first part was boring enough as an American, I can only imagine how much more boring it'd be as a chink.

China still a big part why Michael Bay's Transformer movies are so successful, so I wouldn't go that far.

Not enough CGI destruction porn for China (CGI destruction porn set in a fantasy world doesn't count)

The Chinese just got the OT a few years ago and they thought it sucked. I don't understand why people thought it would do good.

The original Journey to the West was never known in USA (it still isn't). But Dragon Ball is a cultural phenomena.

Is it race baiting or is it putting Chinese actors in with the intention of bumping Chinese revenue?

What exactly constitutes race baiting to you?

>The Chinese just got the OT a few years ago and they thought it sucked.
I don't blame them. I watched the original trilogy after year of watching more contemporary science fiction and honestly I just find it dull and average at best. It really does nothing for me.

Nobody makes that much from blu-rays. TFA made 130m which is pretty high. Most blockbusters settle between 80m-100m.

Also, anyone who still says R1 isn't going to hit a billion is delusional. The movie's going to settle around 1.1b most likely.

...

Yeah, course it is, that's why the Dragon Ball movie did so well.

>"[Blizzard co-founder] Allen Adham hoped to obtain a license to the Warhammer universe to try to increase sales by brand recognition", Wyatt says. "Warhammer was a huge inspiration for the art-style of Warcraft, but a combination of factors, including a lack of traction on business terms and a fervent desire on the part of virtually everyone else on the development team (myself included) to control our own universe nixed any potential for a deal. We had already had terrible experiences working with DC Comics on "Death and Return of Superman" and "Justice League Task Force", and wanted no similar issues for our new game."

>The first part was boring enough as an American
The memes are real holy shit, you really are raised on ritalin and adderall.

I loved and grew upwith the original trilogy but when the second trilogy came around I realised my love for the series was due to nostalgia rather than being onto something good. Even the original trilogy is pretty average desu, but the prequels are complete and utter dysentery. TFA only appeals to me because it has the original actors in it. Without them there's not much point in following star wars anymore

Nah, you got shit taste. SW is more fantasy than Sci-Fi, anyway. It relies more on emotional story telling and the characters than cool Sci-Fi shit.

There's a reason why the original is one of the highest grossing domestic films of all time.

>highest-grossing film of all time domestically
>sell as many blu-rays in the US as the avengers, which made $300m less domestically
>sell over 2m less blu-rays in the US than avatar
>sell less DVDs in 2016 than zootopia and deadpool, and only 100k more than the good dinosaur

Sources:
the-numbers.com/alltime-bluray-sales-chart
the-numbers.com/home-market/dvd-sales/2016

That's exactly what the Chinese thought about the films. In addition to being dated and cliche.

>Movie that is completely worthless without you having massive nostalgia for the 1977 film

>Doing poorly in a country where no one cares about the 1977 film

What a surprise.

>The movie's going to settle around 1.1b most likely.

Nah, far closer to $1b. Overseas holds are poor, and it's running out of gas fast domestically.

Saying Warhammer and Warcraft are the same is as retarded as saying Star Trek and Star Wars are the same cause they are both in space.

It's not a meme. I love the OT. And there's plenty of movies with slow starts that I love, Alien for example.

But the beginning was boring because it was a mess. The editing was a mess, the characters weren't being established, about the only thing I found intriguing were the visuals.

>There's a reason why the original is one of the highest grossing domestic films of all time.
Because it was the Transformers of it's time. Film critics hated it and Jaws for ruining cinema forever. Even Lucas and Spielburg agreed they ruined Hollywood with their movies. You sell shit to the lowest common denominator and they ate it up. NO ONE had faith Star Wars would even do well thats how bad it looked.

>as retarded as saying Star Trek and Star Wars are the same cause they are both in space

Blizzard literally wanted to make a Warhammer game but they couldn't obtain the license.

>muh based China taste
They fucking love Fast&Furious shit, movies with literally 0 plot and shitty CGI'd action sequences.
They keep afloat the shittastic Transformers franchise, they literally go to see anything that is flashy and CGI enough.

But I thought the narrative was that Avatar was a cinema-only experience that was shit everywhere else?

How do Avatar-hating redditors reconcile the notion that Avatar was only good in the cinema with the fact that it out-sold TFA in blurays by over 40%?

The three original movies were good

The prequels are meme kino

The Disney ones are garbage full of political propaganda and woman/minorities bullshit.

Your mind has been warped by memes and shitposting

Not sure where you proved me wrong in any of this.

>Warhammer was a huge inspiration for the art-style of Warcraft
That's the best you have?

I only quoted you so I could get the reply window up.

Don't ever reply to me again.

Seems pretty good to me.

Doubt it.

That's not an argument. There's a reason why it's still loved all these years later. Film critics are retarded half the time. How many critics claimed 2001 was a terrible movie? Here we are 40 years later, and the movies are still loved. You can't dispute that.

>Blizzard literally wanted to make a Warhammer game but they couldn't obtain the license.
So? Have you any knowledge of the franchises? They're incredibly dissimilar.

Read
Also, you just have to look at the fucking Orcs in Warcraft to see how much of a literal Warhammer copy they wanted to make the games. It was only after Warcraft 3 and WoW where they started to differentiate the franchise adding everything else and taking queues from Everquest.

Originally Green Orcs was an invention created by Games Workshop when they started Warhammer Fantasy. Since D&D and Tolkien's LoTR made them brown and pig-like, GW decided to create a whole new race with the Orcs, made them green primitive/warlike monsters, and they are chlorophyll beasts spawned from plants and mushrooms.

Blizzard just randomly took the idea and added in the lore later.

Then you're not that bright. Spend five minutes looking at the content and you'll see. They're barely even the same genre.

Transformers has never done amazing in domestic. The highest grossing one was the second it barely hit 400m. The most recent one was just shy of 250m.

Star Wars, adjusted for inflation, had over a 1.2 billion in domestic.

...

probably means its a good movie.

Chinks have the worst taste in movies.

They love Bayformers, Warcraft did well there. I bet if the communist government wasn't afraid of ghosts female Ghostbusters would do well.

Star Wars can't though because its a movie about rebels overthrowing a despotic regime. Those movies are illegal in China, I don't know why Star Wars is getting a pass, but you can be sure the government isn't letting the state run media advertise it much.

If the casting had been stronger - something that doesn't translate as much in a different language - then it would have been a quite good fantasy flick.

orcs/goblin/trolls/ogres are from nordic folklore...
not Tolkien or D&D... jesuz fuckin amerilards

Don't bother. Half this board thinks Tolkein invented high fantasy.

rogue one isn't good though

>Not an argument
What? Stated a fact that no one had faith in the film because the studio, executives and creator thought it was trash but people ended up loving it.

>There's a reason why it's still loved all these years later
It's mostly rooted in culture and nostalgia because the film came at a depressing era. It was hopeful and optimistic at a time when things werent looking too good. There's a reason why ESB didn't do so well in 80. It was too dark compared to ANH. But you can see a lot of the problems rooted in Star Wars are ignored due to nostalgia. Once the generation that made the franchise infamous dies off, we'll see true critical representation of the films appear.

>Film critics are retarded half the time
They were pretty right in the late 70's saying Hollywood would take films like Jaws and Star Wars as licenses to kill to make big budget blockbusters.

>If the casting had been stronger
>implying that matters in China
Chinese just want to see explosions, and fast cars.

Star was got BTFO by Anime Kino Na Wa in china. How can the west even compete?

I'm not sure what you're arguing anymore. If you're arguing that the movie is bad because half of the film critics in the 70s said so / everyone thought the movie was going to fail, that's not really a good argument.

The time period this was at was very heavily biased against Sci-Fi. Both 2001 and Alien are examples of films largely considered great by today but were given mixed reviews when they came out.

Modern fantasy is 90% copy and pasted from tolkien. Do you really think the hacks who write this shit bothered to dig into nordic mythology? Perhaps some have, but its far more likely they were inspired by what they read growing up.

>mfw Skyrim is written better than half of modern fantasies

>implying that matters in China
I just suggested the opposite you fucking autist.

I think I might be Chinese then

>what is warcraft 1, 2, or 3

Fuck me! This is true

>Do you really think the hacks who write this shit bothered to dig into nordic mythology? Perhaps some have

I'm pretty sure the guys who started GW did. According to the wiki the group of dudes who started the company were a bunch of History major dorks in college and decided that they wanted to make a game where the myths of the world were real.

Warhammer Fantasy is literally the entire fucking Earth we're living in but fantasized which not only touches upon European mythology, but the Kingdom of Araby/(Zoroastrianism, Egyptian, 1001 Nights), Nippon/Shintoism, Cathay/Taoism, Beastmen/Paganism, Lizardmen/Aztecs, Kingdoms of Ind/Hinduism, and Ogres/Mongol-Tengriism.

China never was into Star Wars and literally everyone expected what happened

I like the part about how RO's box office is down because the air in China is literally poison

The whole elder scrolls lore (not including the non canon MMO). I agree it's written better than modern fantasies.

To be fair, they have to include factors like that in their article or else they'll get blasted for not mentioning it.

Same thing with xmas releases, they always mention kids and school.

If these media people were so smart disney would pay them millions of dollars to tell them before they release movies there.

They don't know shit.

No the movie is just fucking terrible.

China's patrician taste saves once again from this cancer. They saved us before with Warcraft.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm not saying they put that there as a deflection. It's put there because it's a fact - China is a fucking shithole.

Disney will pay an army of mexicans to go watch Rogue one.

The utter shame of a star wars movie not breaking a billion dollars will be too much for them. BvS was mocked mercilessly for not doing what a fucking star wars film is struggling to do, fucking STAR WARS.

I did. Yeah that's pretty funny.

>an off-year side story movie is going to make a billion dollars
>lmao owned shit movie glad it failed

BvS should have hit 1.5 billion DCuck.

This is a spin-off and SW is not popular overseas. DC is popular everywhere. Disney's only shame would be if the domestic turnout was poor.

Luke, did I ever tell you about Club Obi Wan? It was a restaurant and nightclub in Shanghai, China in the 1930s. Housed in a multi-story building, the club featured fine dining and lavish entertainment productions for both Chinese and foreign patrons. In 1935, Willie Scott was a lead singer at the club, performing in a large cast of singers, showgirls, and dancers. The club was also a hangout for its owner, the crime lord, Lao Che, and his men. One evening at the club, Lao Che met with Indiana Jones to trade Nurhachi's ashes for a large diamond. Lao attempted to double cross Jones with poison, but Jones escaped, taking Scott with him. During the violent confrontation, Jones' friend Wu Han and Lao Che's son Chen were both killed. Wu Han was a good friend, but Chen wasn't.

It matters when the previous movie in the franchise grossed more than $2 billion. That's a more than 50% drop.

It's a spin off you retard. lrn2box office

There's precisely zero change Episode VIII makes anywhere near that two billion dollars too.

VII had a perfect storm scenario, kind of like Avatar really: it was an event (Star Wars is back!) and had the hype of being *good* Star Wars being back unlike the putrid crap that got rolled out last time Star Wars made a return.

VIII won't be an event because it's the third SW movie in three years, and people have had time to reflect on what VII was. VII prioritized repairing Star Wars over making a good movie. It worked, but everyone knows what it was now.

same with transformers

>VII prioritized repairing Star Wars over making a good movie
How are those conflicting goals? Please elaborate.

It's far too early to make any sort of box office predictions. We'd both be talking out of our ass.

If anything though, Disney has shown with Marvel that people don't experience box office fatigue the way you'd expect. I don't think it'll hit close to 2b based on, like you said, perfect storm scenario doesn't exist. However, I think it'd hit around 1.5b which is something shit like Furious 7 did.

>In what sense are they alike user?

No one is this stupid.
