Democracy is the most terrible form of government.
No matter what system you put in place humans will fuck it up because we are humans. the advantage of democracy is that since the power is spread amoungst hundreds of people, even if 10 become corrupt it doesnt fuck everything up. Corruption only becomes a problem in democracy when it becomes ingrained in your political culture. Compared to a monarchy or a dictatorship where if the leader becomes corrupt you are fucked and fucked hard

Democracy somewhat worked for greece back then, when only a select few, educated and actual greek born citizens could vote.
When you have multi ethnic states and the non-natives can actually vote, then the system is fucked up. Look at the US, they have to secure the black vote, the latino vote, the womens vote and so on. Totally fucking retarded. How the fuck do you get a working community going when everybody feels like a special snowflakes whos desires have to be represented more than the others.
All this devide and conquer in current democracy is just cancer to society. We need another national socialist revolution, but the native citizens of each country first, barely any welfare for foreigners and only those with the actual desire to assimilate and an actual work ethic will stay.

I believe in democracy if you have a country with 95% well educated people who see politics as their business and politicians as their employees who have to be kept in check. That means : a daily involvement in politics and extending the idea of political duty beyond just voting every four years. Mass demonstrations, strikes, people actually looking up who they vote for and checking if he does as promised when in office. Every transfer of money has to be viewed as a political statement, because it is a transfer of power.
But that's just utopia with no country in the world even being near that state or working towards it. I don't believe in democracy.

Why would we need to do that? America is big enough we could be completely autonomous if we had too but even so that isn't necessary. Put tariffs on imports.

Democracy is a good system, not because of the governance system but because of the emphasis on individual freedom.
The problem today anyway is not democracy, it is culture, you can replace democracy by a dictatorship or a monarchy if you still have hollywood, the tabloids, the stupid talkshows, the porn abundance, etc... nothing will change.
The problem is consumer culture.
Anyway having higher standards for voters could be a good thing, most of the voter base purely vote on the highest bidder (think niggers) which is toxic for the long term.

Look at more educated nations, with more skilled workforces, that still carry democracy in various forms. All of them tend toward socialist policies, and when those get tired and they realize the economy is fucked they turn hard right until they weave back to the left again.
There is no good system, there are only decent people living decent lives. Indecent, criminal, and untrustworthy actions cannot be prevented by government fiat or system alone.
