Well this sucks

yahoo.com/news/apnewsbreak-ringling-bros-circus-close-031022225.html

>After 146 years, the curtain is coming down on "The Greatest Show on Earth." The owner of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus told The Associated Press that the show will close forever in May.

>The iconic American spectacle was felled by a variety of factors, company executives say. Declining attendance combined with high operating costs, along with changing public tastes and prolonged battles with animal rights groups all contributed to its demise.

>"There isn't any one thing," said Kenneth Feld, chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment. "This has been a very difficult decision for me and for the entire family."

>The company broke the news to circus employees Saturday night after shows in Orlando and Miami.

>Ringling Bros. has two touring circuses this season and will perform 30 shows between now and May. Major stops include Atlanta, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston and Brooklyn. The final shows will be in Providence, Rhode Island, on May 7 and in Uniondale, New York, at the Nassau County Coliseum on May 21.

>The circus, with its exotic animals, flashy costumes and death-defying acrobats, has been a staple of entertainment in the United States since the mid-1800s. Phineas Taylor Barnum made a traveling spectacle of animals and human oddities popular, while the five Ringling brothers performed juggling acts and skits from their home base in Wisconsin. Eventually, they merged and the modern circus was born. The sprawling troupes traveled around America by train, wowing audiences with the sheer scale of entertainment and exotic animals.

>By midcentury, the circus was routine, wholesome family entertainment. But as the 20th century went on, kids became less and less enthralled. Movies, television, video games and the internet captured young minds. The circus didn't have savvy product merchandising tie-ins or Saturday morning cartoons to shore up its image.

Who cares

Found the ADD faggot who this article warned about

Needs more pinheads and less animals.

Good. Attitudes towards the way we treat animals is different than it was 150 years ago. They didn't change enough with the times.

This is sad. I remember having gone as a kid. My brother and I got foam swords and we'd smack the shit out of each other with em. Good times

Nobody's going to go bore themselves to death with literal 19th century entertainment to prove they have normal attention spans. The article explained why it happened, the people in charge of it didn't create or market a competitive product.

The fact that scipted horseshit with stories written for ten year olds like the WWE was able to beat it says everything.

Yeah better to release the animals in the wild where they will be eaten by another animal or hunted down is better

>The fact that scipted horseshit with stories written for ten year olds like the WWE was able to beat it says everything.

Yeah it says your IQ is shit

i smell a great Leno gag where an out of work clown takes a job at the bank and a lion tamer jones the TSA

get writing you talented kikes!

Who the fuck still goes to the circus?

Did you just wake up from a ten year long coma?

Just saw this story on the news alert for my new ipad mini :3

I think I'll go to a show before they close. I went once as a kid and loved it.

>captivity is preferential to nature.
jesus user

Out with the old in with the new, grandpa.

You drank the PETA Kool-Aid. The only reason anyone gives a shit about animals is because they get to see them in the circus and in zoos.

>wholesome family entertainment

yeah, thank god that shit is dead now.

> I'm afraid of change

Kek

kys

Don't support the bad treatment of animals, faggot.

Get fucked, queer.

>the concept of families is dead
>family entertainment dies

wow who wouldve thought

The Russian Circuses are good but they don't feature animals.

Big Apple Circus is a good one but it is regional.

The Shriner Circus has funny clowns.

The circus is third world entertainment

I ate several kinds today and loved every bite.

That's been shown to be incorrect, the primary "media" for inspiring youth to get into animal biology/conservation is actually through documentaries, not by visiting them in zoos.

>That's been shown to be incorrect

By studies funded by PETA who want to get rid of zoos but the reality is little kids need to see actual live animals, not documentaries and vidya games, to develop not only an interest in animals but also empathy for animals.

The militant animal rights kooks want zero interaction between humans and wild animals and the guaranteed result of that is extinction by a society that doesn't give a shit.

Circuses on the the other hand are of little value and their demise is no loss.

>empathy for animals.

Did anyone here ever go to the circus? I've been to a few smaller ones but it was all human acts.
I think I'm going to see this, trained animal acts are getting rare.

>Did anyone here ever go to the circus?

I did years ago when I was a little kid and thought it was neet-o but I'm, 49 now and think circuses ought to end.

Zoos on the other hand, need to remain and should get more funding.

>In May of 2016, after a long and costly legal battle, the company removed the elephants from the shows and sent the animals to live on a conservation farm in Central Florida. The animals had been the symbol of the circus since Barnum brought an Asian elephant named Jumbo to America in 1882. In 2014, Feld Entertainment won $25.2 million in settlements from groups including the Humane Society of the United States, ending a 14-year fight over allegations that circus employees mistreated elephants.

>Attendance has been dropping for 10 years, said Juliette Feld, but when the elephants left, there was a "dramatic drop" in ticket sales. Paradoxically, while many said they didn't want big animals to perform in circuses, many others refused to attend a circus without them.

>"We know now that one of the major reasons people came to Ringling Bros. was getting to see elephants," she said.

I want to toss that gook over the side so fucking bad.

Since when is Sup Forums filled with a bunch of PETA fags?

Yeah, I'm old too and I agree. I loved Ringling bros back in the 80s, though. This dude was the shit

Do the chinese even have souls?

I'm 25. I went to the Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey when I was about 3-5 or so. IIRC I prefered the disney on ice stuff.

>The Russian Circuses are good but they don't feature animals.

So its not like a real russian circus

youtube.com/watch?v=Y-Tj1hG98xE

Ya, they fought tooth and nail to keep the elephants in legal battles spanning over a decade. They should have stopped having animals in cages and instead embraced the "conservationist" attitude and made it known far and wide how they are about animal welfare.

>Yeah better to release the animals in the wild where they will be eaten by another animal or hunted down is better

This is a short term loss
In the long run no more animals will be held in captivity for the show.

I was considering going and seeing a show now that they are doing a farewell tour, I never got to see it as a kid.

But honestly, without the elephants whats the point? Wasnt that literally the whole point of the show?

>In the long run no more animals will be held in captivity for the show.

Yes, its better that we only have elephants in the wild so poachers can make bank off of selling ivory to china

>red herring

no

>leno

yeah, johnny carson will make some good jokes about this! haha! maybe he'll even get rodney dangerfield to guest star.

p.s. if your time machine has broke, stay in the past. its not good in this time/reality. everyone is dying and people arent happy anymore.

yea, all the kids were more excited by the colored lightsaber/flashlights they sold in the audience.

i felt bad for the animals. it was also too loud (amplified yelling at stuff).

but it better than cirque de soiley nonsense.

recently the trannies are gaining influence by circlejerking and raiding through discord and people are ironically liking tranny porn by jokingly saying its not gay

Which Ringling brother is /ourguy/? Al looks pretty cool.
