Hey Sup Forums I'm from the US but I'm really fond of English comedy. Picture related are some of the shows that I've seen and really enjoyed: >Black Books >Shameless >Fresh Meat >Spaced
I'm looking for any recommendations that other fans of the genre may have.
Everything by Chris Morris. Chris Morris Chris Morris Chris Morris (Nathan Barley is his least-funny show, but it's also his most conventional.)
Father Ted since one of its co-creators also co-created Black Books. Garth Marenghi's Darkplace And you should watch An Idiot Abroad; although Karl isn't a comedian, he's one of the funniest people in Britain, and the show was created by Ricky Gervais --who is a comedian.
Blake Bennett
Green Wing is good. At least I thought so when it first came out.
Ethan Turner
Ah yes I've seen An Idiot Abroad already, forgot to mention it. Great show and Karl is hilarious. I also enjoyed the IT crowd for the most part, just thought of it.
Jace Hughes
For more Karl you should listen to Ricky Gervais' XFM radio show and podcast. Or you could watch The Ricky Gervais Show, the animated cartoon. Funnily enough, I believe that Chris Morris has an infrequent role in the IT Crowd (I haven't seen the show), and Ayoade (the black guy) stars in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.
Joseph Turner
...
Eli Baker
>The Thick Of It >PhoneShop >Peep Show >Darkplace >Father Ted
Easton Carter
>The Office >Extras >I'm Alan Partridge / Knowing Me, Knowing You >Only Fools & Horses
Most of the GOAT stuff has already been mentioned so I'll reinforce these:
Chris Morris' entire catalogue, mainly Brass Eye Green Wing Peep Show The Thick of It Father Ted (Irish but hey it's UK) Alan Partridge
Landon Torres
I'm Alan Partridge
Watch this first before anything else.
Caleb Ramirez
Brass Eye (as has been mentioned many times) The Thick of It Drop The Dead Donkey Red Dwarf Father Ted Peep Show Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
Colton Anderson
Blackadder.
Daniel Ramirez
Garth Marenghis Darkplace Bottom The Young Ones Father Ted Red Dwarf The League of Gentlemen Psychoville
Grayson Fisher
Bottom
Its basically /r9k/ the show
Joseph Cruz
>Its basically /r9k/ the show
That is not a very good recommendation, mate.
Justin Morales
Adding to that, the first 3 live shows are pretty good stuff too.
Easton Cruz
Hooligans island is probably my favourite live performance of any comedy
Asher Myers
IT Crowd
The Office The Thick of It
those 3 are my favoruites
Cooper Gomez
>Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Lucas Phillips
>He was my best friend >He was a paedo dog!
Isaac Taylor
Did anyone watch Wasted?
It''s pretty comfy and has qts.
Also hit all the marks with me as i'm from a similar old English town so plots like 'Having to go to the OTHER pub that had a refurb', the trek coming back from a night in the city and trying to get really drunk at a shitty old town festival all where spot on.
William Murphy
Started downloading the first season. There's a lot of good recommendations in this thread I'm excited to have some new viewing material.
Aaron Hall
Yeah, it was pretty good, especially for an E4 comedy. I liked the Eyes Wide Shut party in the last episode, with the guy who had a fetish for being trapped.
Jordan Powell
I should mention Wasted is HEAVILY inspired by Spaced.
Christopher Jenkins
In addition to a lot of whats already been mentioned...
>A Bit Of Fry and Laurie >Absolute Power >Absolutely Fabulous >Dirk Gently >Not The Nine O'Clock News >Shooting Stars >Steptoe & Son >That Mitchell and Webb Look >The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer >The Young Ones
Gavin Scott
How about some radio comedy
>The Goon Show >Hancock's Half Hour >I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue >Cabin Pressure >Men From The Ministry >Round The Horne >Yes, Minister >Steptoe & Son >Does The Team Think? >The Clitheroe Kid
Hudson Smith
>Not The Nine O'Clock News >you now remember when Rowan Atkinson would start his live shows, by sitting in the audience until the show was meant to have started, then standing up and ranting on about how the audience had paid good money to see some rubber faced twat from Not Now The Nine O'clock News, and he didn't even bother to show up
Lincoln Peterson
One that always flies under the rader is Ideal. It's a pretty weird show set entirely in a weed dealer's flat, about the people who come and go. There's quite a lot of it for a British show but it's really solid and comfy, with the strongest aspect being the characters.
Apparently they're doing a movie, too.
Liam Perez
The detectorists
Hudson Ross
Bellamy's Britain
Nathan Thomas
Chris Morris was a regular character in the first series, he played the boss of the company
Brody Diaz
How Not To Live Your Life
Camden Scott
More like Sup Forums's future - the show
Brandon Johnson
anyone /Newswipe/ here?
Jacob Powell
There's a lot of great radio comedies from the UK too:
>The Goon Show >I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again >I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue >Round The Horne >Yes, Minister >Steptoe & Son >Hancock's Half Hour >The Clitheroe Kid >Men From The Ministry >Does The Team Think?
Sebastian Bennett
Just watch this
Isaiah Hill
>Father Ted (Irish but hey it's UK) Don't let them hear you say that mate.
Hunter Martinez
>Peep Show >Misfits >Spaced >IT crowd >Only Fools >Father Ted
Colton Ortiz
if you arent just after sitcoms, then check out have i got news for you. even question time can be interesting sometimes, if only to see what kind of fucking inbred embarrassments populate our country for real
why do bongs love puppets so much? is that all they can afford to use?
Andrew Kelly
I'm amazed only one user mentioned Blackadder. S2-4 are essential viewing if you're interested in British comedies.
Easton Evans
Not quite, it's mostly driven by nostalgia for the kids puppet shows during the wars and beyond which were made with puppets because it's all they could afford.
Henry Baker
Used to really enjoy this, then for some reason i just stopped finding it funny.
Josiah Perry
I've never watched it, but Monkey Dust is meant to be great (and it's animated).
Lucas Gomez
>Jam (all Morris, but this especially) >I'm Alan Partridge >Mid Morning Matters >Garth Marenghi's Darkplace >Father Ted
you should watch skins, then watch inbetweeners if you want to learn what a shitshow it was to grow up in the uk
Aiden Garcia
What's wrong with The Inbetweeners? Not only is it actually funny, it often accurately portrays teenage life. You don't see accurate portrayals like it often.
Luis Sullivan
Am i the only who watched this?
Michael Lewis
come on, S1 is great too, even if the style is completely different
Jose Johnson
I'm not saying S1 is bad - but S2-4 are undeniably 'classics' that shouldn't be overlooked by anyone interested in British comedy.
Carter Williams
I'm British, and I watched the first series of Skins as it first aired. I was 16, and it was entirely relatable and equally watchable. Always found The Inbetweeners tedious; reminds me of so many mediocre Year 11 Drama students.
Josiah Powell
JAAAAAAAAAAAM
Carson Harris
Keeping Up Appearances
Camden Johnson
God I miss this. Why did MDE have to be so shit.
Andrew Cox
Excellent choice.
Liam Green
the pope running joke from last year was stupid, but made me laugh
2016 wipe was great
Matthew Thomas
I liked it a lot too. Not sure why it isn't popular, it's great
Michael Flores
Peep Show is the first show you should watch.
Oliver Green
fuck off buswanker
David Ortiz
Travel Man is pretty good, Richard Ayoade is a funny guy. Other stuff I didn't see mentioned ITT The Armstrong & Miller Show Toast of London Snuff Box Life's Too Short Derek I also love Count Arthur Strong, but start with the radio show with that one, it's better.
