Britbong, so my country turns out some of the best music there is. However, I LIVE in Ecuador, and the music here is garbage.
I guess some of the "folk" and traditional music is OK. Ecuador is known for "pasillo" music, which is balladic music featuring a lot of acoustic guitar. Julio Jaramillo is the most famous Ecuadorian artist of this genre. Apart from that, the standard mix of salsa, merengue and cumbia etc, but I think most of that comes from Colombia, Puerto Rico and Cuba...
As far as can see, there's not much in the way of a "scene" for rock or even EDM, not that is homegrown anyway. Most people listen to shitty pop music in English or Spanish (DE SPA CITO), or endless, endless reggaeton. Latin pop music is actually even worse than English language pop. It's less original, more repetitive, and the singers/stars are even more manufactured and fake.

Traditional music is great. Good folk singers. The live music scene for trad, folk etc. is great . E.g. hundreds of thousands go to the 'Fleadh' every year... it's amazing, music on every corner, and every pub absolutely wedged. The best time ever is to go to the Fleadh, and just go around the pubs all day listening to the ceoil. I highly recommend it.

The mainstream side of music here is meh and i usually tend to ignore it. I like Alma but that's about it.
Finnish rap scene is really melancholic but interesting, some good releases there.
Rock music is pretty meh too but there are a few good bands like Apulanta or PMMP.
(i do not follow finnish music that much, someone could probably tell more)
