I think people who reject all screams probably just haven't given them enough of a chance or just haven't found the scream vocals they would actually like. I listen to a lot of deathmetal and doomy genres with screams and they can be really effective, or really not to my taste, just like clean singers can be. I hate hardcore style, yelly, tough guy, fight-me-irl sounding vocals for instance. Jens from Meshuggah has one of my favorite vocal tones for screams:
