NFL TV Ratings are declining because it's boring

Everyone and their mother has some personal theory as to why the NFL is having ratings problems, but the real answer is simple and no more apperent than in the contrast between declining NFL ratings but rising CFB ratings.

The league is stale and unimaginative. People have more interest in watching Romo as color commentary personality point this out by predicting plays at infallible accuracy then watching the game itself.

Football is above all else a game of strategy, but the modern NFL has lost any sense of this fact, while CFB remains close to its roots and continually tries new creative ways to out-game opponents. The NFL has become a sport of just trying to grab the best chess pieces to smash in to their opponents.

nah it's the ungrateful niggers

Got a vid of the romo thing? Mostly watch CFB but this sounds funny

There’s compilations on youtube.
It’s becoming shtick at this point.
He’s a good announcer

soon sidelines coaches will watch romo's playcast and then order audibles before the snap to prove him wrong

NFL is basically the same as watching the shopping channel.

Truth

pretty much this
he is fun to listen to
just needs to work on his beta voice

y-yeah guise it's because it's boring

d-don't make it about race

So because niggers are niggers
and because niggers are niggers
and because it's boring.

yes, the protests a couple weeks ago caused the nfl to decline the last few years

>there was no I am tired of niggers option

Bogus poll

>posting stats that go against his own argument

I bet more people are going to stop watching after marcus peters kneeled

>kaepershit kneeled a few weeks ago
I have news for you

Can an American explain to me why this whole anthem/kneeling business is such a big deal for so many people that they even stop watching the sport?
If I were interested in the sport I wouldn't give a shit about such trifles that only take up three minutes before the actual game. Just get yourself another beer or go take a piss if you can't endure watching some niggers kneeling while listening to a song.

most americans aren't interested in handegg. they watch it for all the drama surrounding it and/or the super bowl commercials/half-time show

football was popular during a time when few other entertainment options were accessible to the average american. When you have streaming options and vidya then sports are less entertaining. A lot of people only watch because it's a social activity not really because it's entertaining.

The reason why its unpopular is the shitty way they choose cities for teams. In CFB they have built in fanbases that are dedicated. But in the NFL, they, for some reason, think they will have a fanbase just for moving into the city. That's not how it works. People don't feel as much connection to the teams if they just up and leave. And even for new teams like Bucs, Jags, Houston, people wont necessarily support them.. The stakes feel a lot lower for most people if they don't feel a connection to the team

tl:dr people feel no connection to the teams, at least not nearly as much as CFB

It's complicated. If there was NEVER an anthem before the game, people wouldn't care. But because there IS, and the protestors are choosing that specific time to protest, it rubs a lot of people the wrong way. It's basically the players way of saying "fuck you america"; and if you read between the lines, it's basically their way of saying "fuck conservative america". it's basically a middle finger to the largest constituency of the NFL fanbase. People feel like they're watching people who hate them.

People think: protest is fine, but why during the flag/anthem? Why not at another time? Why choose that time, specifically?

People have been focusing on the short term, which is this anthem stuff. Ratings have been declining since 2015 - not just with the NFL, but with all sports like NASCAR (throwing anthem issue out the window).

The reality is that the core demographic for sports is for boomers - they are 50 or older. People younger than that don't watch the full games, if at all. People above 50 may not agree with protesting the anthem, but if you look around the internet many young people do. But they don't watch. This is a long term problem ALL sports will have to figure out.

it shows how much blacks are hated in this country

demographics are clearly on the side of MLS, be it millennials or people with immigration background. Get used to watching soccer, user.

Citation needed

I thought the Steelers-Ravens game was unwatchable. The Broncos game was also quite boring. The Jets were fun as shit though and Rams were nice to watch too. Just don't watch shit games.

The N.F.L.’s regular season ratings fell by about 8 percent from 2015 to 2016.

2015 to 2016.
This is nothing new.
Reasons for that drop were claimed to be:
Manning's retirement.
Brady's scandal/suspension.
Lack of real stars in the league.

And it was going on years before that. Nothing to do with Trump or Kaepernick or protests.

>bummer wins, the league
I love CFB but I don't watch as much nowadays

the weirdest thing is how so many Americans conflate this as an insult to the military.
WTF? Do they have no idea what the anthem and flag represent?
If a burger can shed some light on this I'd really appreciate knowing why Americans seem to think the flag and anthem have more meaning or connection to their military than themselves.

>it's basically their way of saying "fuck conservative america". it's basically a middle finger to the largest constituency of the NFL fanbase

majority of teams fans identify as democrat

fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-every-nfl-teams-fans-lean-politically/

>implying its not because of Trump and Kap

Old people dont participate in social media polls

>grown men watching other grown men get paid millions to play a sport you played in high school

watching the NFL is gay

From outside looking in it does appear soccer is becoming more popular in the US plus ive seen reports saying less parents are allowing their kids to play US football because of the head injuries and more are going towards soccer but at least your starting to get some decent players now.

It's unwatchable shit now.

>What is the star spangled banner

yeah, instead we should watch 2 men beat the shit out of each other until the other dies, or live gay sex, or 22 gay men running around a field for 100 minutes w/o scoring any points

A Hendrix song?

>Pulisic
>Croatian or Serbian
>American superstar
Soccer is shit, watching the Champions league before semi finals is a waste of time. It's all about money and buying the best players. The only league worth half a shit is the Premier league, but it's still boring to watch.

There was some good games in group stage last year the Celtic 3-3 Man city was good.

...

because the german is right. no one really LOVES football. no one writes poems about it or dreams about it, its just another from of entertainment. best example is 'when your team sucks no one goes' or this kneeling thing. anywhere else for soccer you could protest against the board... everyone still shows up

you literally lost to mexico, there is no need to insult the game here.

and pulisic is 100% , >muh surname

also very interesting you badmouth the game though. what is your favorite, water polo?

Try having a league with 99.99% of player of the country's origin and you'll understand ;)

The NFL is boring as hell. It takes fantasy cucks to have interest in games

College football is far superior but college football too is getting lame. It is nothing like the golden years '08 -2012

>It's the let's watch Alabama win again episode
I hope one day their bs is revealed how they're paying their players and the school gets fucked.

user sports are dying. Boomers are the only thing holding sports leagues up because everyone has don’t care or have the time for sports.

>not streaming redzone
>2017
You guys srsly waiting through 2.5 hours of beer and truck ads per game?

It's Brady and his fags every year too. The whole league has been lame since 2011.

>Not including 2007, the greatest year of CFB ever

fucking kys

this, I just watch streams. do those end up counting towards the NFL's ratings?

>no one writes poems about it or dreams about it
I did that once

games are shit theres too many penalties. Anytime someone gains more than 10 yards on a play you know its getting called back for holding.

you don't watch the NFL

Why would you stop watching because a backup QB on one of the worst teams in the league knelt?

>reason for not watching
>election coverage

Wtf did they mean by this?

NASCAR's issue is completely different. Their ratings are declining because the product is boring compared to what it used to be, all their old major stars are either retired or are retiring, and the sanctioning body doesn't seem to know how to stop the bleeding and isn't interested in reversing course to what worked in their golden era.

>TV rating problem
Literally no shits given. NFL is more popular than ever. Fuck Fox, fuck CBS, and fuck NBC

So basically convershits are being super loud about muh patriotism and muh nigger wife beaters.

>NFL TV Ratings are declining because it's boring
>nah it's the ungrateful niggers
>y-yeah guise it's because it's boring
>d-don't make it about race

>The NFL has become a sport of just trying to grab the best chess pieces to smash in to their opponents.
So why are people still watching the NBA?

>trusting Nate (((Silver)))
I want Reddit to leave

>Lions
>2nd most liberal fanbase
That's a load of horseshit. They probably just took Detroit niggers and Ann Arbor college kids completely forgetting that Michigan voted Trump.

>Can an American explain to me why this whole anthem/kneeling business is such a big deal
It's only recently a big deal. Up until 2009 or so when the Pentagon started buying "product placement" for the military - secretly paying US sports leagues to pay homage to soldiers as if worshiping the military was natural and not secret social programming - the playing of the anthem wasn't all that big a deal and they players weren't a big part of it.

But the right in America is as crazed about virtue signaling as the left is. So for the left it's about pussy hats and "tolerance" for race-mixing and transgender sex, for the right the signaling takes the form of praising the flag and the military.

Of course it's only insecure people on both sides who give a damn, secure people think for themselves. But the insecure who need the virtue signaling to reassure themselves they're safely part of a group FREAK THE FUCK OUT when they don't get that reassurance.

BTW, the other reason things are hard to understand is there are at least 5 different issues all mixed up together in the anthem thing. People are like the blind men and the elephant, talking about their own part without realizing another person is talking about something else - and nobody even realizes they're blind, let alone that it's a big elephant.

1. Americans' rights to protest
2. Racial divisions of players
3. Racial divisions in US society
4. Secretly programming society to associate militarism with sports, fame, and success
5. What's the relationship of sport to larger society

Sup Forumseddit absolutely BTFO

Romo's not even that good though. I don't know why Sup Forums has been sucking his dick.

>It's basically the players way of saying "fuck you america"
No, that's just your delusion. These players absolutely do not hate the country.

Why does it have to be all or nothing? Why does criticizing one aspect of our society mean you are saying "fuck you to America"?

The combination of Nate Silver and Surveymonkey is not the best sign that an absolutely objective search for truth is being carried forward using the best statistical practices.

>1. Americans' rights to protest

You have none while at work.

>2. Racial divisions of players

True enough, and these are being made worse, intentionally.

>3. Racial divisions in US society

These exist, and are being made worse, intentionally.

>4. Secretly programming society to associate militarism with sports, fame, and success

And the Illuminati and the Earth is Flat and stuff.

>5. What's the relationship of sport to larger society

What it should be is what the relationship between society and entertainment ii -- which is distinctly different from the relationship between society and, say, art.

The entire sports media complex has been up his butt since he signed with the Cowboys, and even though he was a middle-of-the-road QB with glass bones he had to be forced-memed 24/7 forever. This is continuing in his broadcast career, where it turns out he is also not very talented but at least is less likely to shatter any major organs.

Because part of this country is really dumb. They are upset because they don't like black people or they are insecure about being white.

Redzone's problem is that it doesn't have most of the plays outside of the 30 yard line. Redzone is a supplemental tool, but can't fully replace a game. Having Redzone with 1 or 2 game streams is the best.

It's a fans vs owners issue

>The game is to watered down
lol stop watching faggots

>games are to longs
lol stop watching faggots

>to many fucking commercials
lol stop watching faggots

>we're sick of these criminals getting off because they can play football good
lol stop watching faggots

>we're sick of you making everything political we just want to watch football
lol stop watching faggots

>your players are protesting the flag and calling most of your fans a bunch of racists
lol stop watching faggot
>okay we will
Wh-what how could you do that!

So the players can protest but the fans who spend their time watching the games and following the teams and giving them their money don't have any say?

This is why shit like GG even got off the ground because entitled millionaires are telling normal people to fuck off and then when they do it is because "they are a bunch or racists".

>American """"""football"""""" is above all else a game of burgers

FTFY m80

Then why do it during the anthem? Why not at any other time

I agree with OP. NFL football is honestly just fucking boring. The teams play like boring shit. Way too many drives are sustained by questionable penalties. When watching the games, it feels like you're moreso watching games of ineptitude than real skill and finesse.

no fucking shit. He's one year removed from calling plays in NFL huddles for like 10 years, obviously he has a good feeling of what plays will get called . I'm sure the season after Aiken or Simms or any other one of those guys walked away they would be able to do the same, then the game moves on and they get less and less accurate at calling plays.

also he just does it almost every time, you could make 6 longer compilations of him calling out plays that don't get run. The whole romo is a wizard meme is so fucking casual and reeks of reddit

people point to those things because they're obvious and in your face. The fact that the game is becoming boring isn't so readily apparent. If it was as exciting as ever no one would give a shit about those things but now they seem like a big deal.As someone who used to LOVE football and doesn't watch anymore my reason isn't on that list at all: rule changes. The rule changes that make it impossible to play defense (literally invented a rule basically saying if you can't pic off a pass you have to let the reciever catch it and start running up field) has made the game boring. That is the true underlying reason casuals just don't realize this

The biggest problem I've noticed with the sport is the fact that you can't celebrate anything, you have to wait to see how the review goes, whether or not the play actually counts because of penalties, if the other team is going to challenge it and then how that challenge goes, and so on. By time all of that is done (including the multiple ad breaks) the excitement is gone and you don't feel like celebrating anymore. When someone gets a 60 yard TD in the back of the endzone in triple coverage you shouldn't have to hold your breath for 5 minutes before reacting.

You are right. This is the primary problem with football today. Whenever there is a big play, you cannot celebrate right away, you have to think "did that count?". It definitely puts a damper on your emotional reaction. Whenever there's a big play, I instantly look to the bottom of the screen to see if there was a flag. It's fucking sad.

And honestly, do they really need to review every fucking touchdown? Every time someone scores, the announcer always go "Remember, every scoring play is reviewed!"
