I have always hated country music, but recently I realized because the only country I've been exposed to is modern, twangy, effeminate country, where the guys only sing about women and memories and barbecue so they can sell their garbage to teenage girls and old ladies.
I need some Sup Forums approved country music, preferably something really masculine, nothing sappy, very cowboy western, and something I can play McCree to.
Thanks in advance.

Ray Wylie Hubbard for outlaw country. Sturgill Simpson for modern rock with some psychedelic influence. Robert Earl Keen is fun Charlie Daniels Johnny Cash Steve Earle for faster rock country - check out the song Copperhead Road
June 25, 2016 - 10:37
Hank Williams. (note the period, and specifically the lack of anything with a 'J' in it.) Merle Haggard Boxcar Willie Willie Nelson Johnny Cash Junior Johnson
New country worth listening to will have trouble getting called that, it's often classified as 'Americana' to distinguish it from the NashVegasShowBizShit.
Speaking of which Mojo Nixon managed to do a slip a little real country into his ostensibly punk albums, as do bands like SCoTS and a lot of (but not all) rockabilly/punkabilly/psychobilly type bands.
June 25, 2016 - 10:42
Nice list. I like a couple of Junior's songs, mainly just Family Tradition because it cracks me up.
Brown Bird is cool, here's a link to a good song: youtu.be /phWmok50QLk

Go listen to a highway men album, then anything from any of the key members, and you've pretty much covered all the bases.
Nu-country is trash, especially this rap-country nonsense trying to appeal to kids. Anything from the 80's/early 90s back is typically a-ok.

"Heroes And Friends"
I ain't lived forever, but I've lived enough I've learned to be gentle, and I've learned to be tough I've found only two things that last 'til the end, One is your heroes, the other's your friends
[Chorus:] Your heroes will help you find good in yourself Your friends won't foresake you for somebody else They'll both stand beside you through thick and through thin That's how it goes with heroes and friends
I grew up with cowboys I watched on TV My friends and I sometimes pretended to be Years have gone by, but now and again My heart rides the range with my heroes and friends
