I am at a lost for words. I am overwhelmed. I can not believe what I just read. Is this THE most embarrassing interview ever had with a popular musician?

lmao

>quoting MLK as his "favorite philosopher"
>cites Ariel Pink as an example of a little-known artist who isn't in it for the money when Ariel Pink has explicitly stated that he doesn't enjoy making music anymore and only does it as a job
>he thinks David Bowie was "pretty underground in the 70s"
>he argues for direct democracy and acts like America was ever a direct democracy or supposed to be one
>he thinks Jimi Hendrix had no success in his lifetime and says "okay" when the interviewer tells him that Electric Ladyland was a #1 album and he closed Woodstock
>actually factually tells interviewer "everything you’re saying sounds 100 percent like cultural brainwashing."

>I think corporations should thrive
Dropped

wtf lmao

I'm not even anti-left but get the fuck out of my thread, this just hurts to watch

He's really starting to look old as shit.

>I guess my question is this: Are you saying that wider exposure is all that prevents musicians like Ariel Pink or the Velvet Underground from being more popular? Because to my ears — and this is not a quality judgment — it makes sense that Ed Sheeran is more commercially successful than Ariel Pink. One of those musicians is trying to be pop and one isn’t.
>Everything you’re saying sounds 100 percent like cultural brainwashing.
WOKE

The strokes were the beginning of the end for rock music.

Rock critics, musicians and fans don't know about the history of rock yet still claim it's the best thing ever happened.
Thanks god rock is dead.

>Everything you’re saying sounds 100 percent like cultural brainwashing.
He was unironically right there.

>MUSIC IS OBJECTIVE AND I HAVE BELIEVED THIS SINCE I WAS 15

wew

I thought "cuck" was offensive to polyamorous couples so you had to start using "chud" instead? Better edit that before leftypol bans you

Who gives a fuck what he says, his music is good, not that anything said by any artist ever counted shit

curious as to what you all think of this interview. I feel like his heart is in the right place, but some of his points just miss the mark here. Like when he's talking about success of mainstream artists vs. indie artists, he does nothing to mention minority artists, in favor of straight white male artists like Ariel Pink and Porches. The Strokes were gifted a great amount of commercial success, really by being in the right place at the right time, so his frustration with the industry seems a bit misplaced to me. He also has no concept of the career of Jimi Hendrix but that's a whole other thing lol

>a lost for words
Is this THE most embarrassing post ever made on Sup Forums?

Interests me.
What would you consider is the last rock band?

/ourguy/

You copy and pasted this from an indieheads thread. Try harder next time

Read the interview. He's comes off as a fucking douche

he's gotta be on drugs

>it's 2018 and some people are still surprised to discover that Julian Casablancas is a vacuous moron

Eh...

>he does nothing to mention minority artists, in favor of straight white male artists
the absolute state of liberals

he has some valid points and some very dumb ones, but overall it was a fun reading. then there's the mocking of it by generic white journalists because he's not a linear and consistent thinker like them. you also got to consider that is a chat transcripted by the journalist to make him look the winner like "oh my god he dunked on him"

Are you really fact checking a rock musician? Are you retarded or are you buzzfeed interns?

>how money ruined modern pop (and America)
Didn't he come up as a spoiled rich kid and his parents essentially bought him a record contract? Or something to the effect anyway? I could be wrong but I thought I had read that somewhere.

It's this 2004?

How is this news?

Exactly, and now we have to put up with the shite that the Strokes influenced

leftypol is for manarchists and brocialists, they don't really give a fuck about political correctness.

that's why it's called lefty politically incorrect

he were always in bad terms with his father, he was bartendering when the strokes broke big

>thinks not liking the Beatles helped him be more original when his career is just ripping off Loaded instead of The White Album
Top kek

Still close enough for him to pay to send him to a Swiss boarding school, though

when he was a problematic teenager, then he grew up and started doing his thing by himself

if someone helped them that was albert hammond jr dad, who bought them some instruments, but overall they were a very diy band, all that "rich kids" narrative is false

all of this is in the book meet me in the bathroom, which is not just about the strokes and is a highly recommended reading

Reminder that Is This It saved rock music and The Strokes are the last great rock band so Julian gets a permanent pass on whatever he says.

>overall they were a very diy band, all that "rich kids" narrative is false
why do strokesfags always get pissed when someone dare say they come from loaded backgrounds? yikes

why do you think coming from a wealthy background is something bad? are you poor and resentful?

reminder than virtue is full of bangers so if he worships nazism fine for me dgaf desu all hail julez

too woke 4 these fake hard keyboard warriors

idk but look at that facial bone structure i'm jacking off so hard now

What a fucking idiot

He has a strong jaw and that's it. There's nothing interesting about his looks and he looks gross from some angles

dude look at his cheeks you have no idea what u are talking about

Come give this handsome hunk of love a smooch, user

Attached: rs-172053-42-57572691.jpg (700x394, 33K)

i'm talking about bones he was clearly fat in there

This

He's on point nowadays youtube.com/watch?v=Y9v38OUrU4Q

His hair looks so fucking bad

>tfw you care more about stupid internet jokes then the fate of your fellow men

Attached: fakechad.jpg (401x401, 32K)

life is simple, truth is complex

No one's saying there's anything inherently good or bad about that. Good on them for having a better start in life for most, same with The Stones or whoever else. It's annoying when they start acting like they didn't have that massive step up though, almost like a musical astroturfing. This happens a lot, as well, that bands will try and seem more "street" for credibility, and it's just silly most of the time.

>life is simple
Not even being is simple, and being is just one component of life.

if you think, you already are

>implying what is = what is simple
>implying being is "what is" and not "what 'what is' is like"
>implying "cogito ergo sum" hasn't been thoroughly blown out of the water as a logical axiom by philosophers after Descartes' time

>post-Descartes "philosophers"
Don't take this as a contrarian meme post, there literally isn't a single philosopher worth taking seriously after Descartes except Hegel, and that's a strong maybe.

well well well what do we have here? an imbecile who doesn't know popper, it seems

I grew up with the strokes. I thought julian was what made the band. He didn't. Any fucking retard could have gotten up on stage and slurred through the first two albums. Admit it. He's a fucking trash artist and you should stop giving a shit about him.

>who is Kant
>who is Hobbes
>who is Spinoza
>who are the pragmatists
>who is Stirner (memes aside)

he's write every instrument of the first strokes albums

>guy makes music
okay
>guy that makes music must have a lot of important opinions that are worth a shit because he's a guy that makes music
fucking why

JC forever. Filling the voidz in mylife

Not by a Longshot, newfag

Big if true

Hey, fuck you

Wtf are you talking about he always had babycheeks.

Rock is dead, user. He didn't do a very good job saving it

he saved it for a while, that's how rock works, it will have a rebirth soon

lol i love when normies try to put their finger on why society is so absolutely disgusting right now

they get so close to naming the jew but cant just cant quite get there

Attached: r8.jpg (250x221, 17K)

>who is adolf hitler

wow dude its like you wanna be a jewish puppet pet

ecks dhee

left = ruined!

Music is objective

leftypol isn't even left, they're just right wingers who like soviet iconography

>Stirner
are you fucking shitting me?

It's, "lies are simple, truth complex"
Why would that thing you just typed make any coherent sense whatsoever? What the fuck

It doesn't matter how much of a retard he is. Virtue is fucking amazing.

don't let Julian being mentally challenged distract you from the fact that he just droped the aoty

Nirvana

>quoting MLK as his "favorite philosopher"
Redpill: MLK was a great orator, but not very bright as a person. He plagiarized his thesis in college and the only reason they didn't take away his diploma was because of the cultural ramifications it would have caused. look it up.

like mother theresa?

The fact that he thinks Joyner Lucas is better than Kendrick Lamar got a laugh out of me. I mean even if you don’t like Kendrick how would think the “I’m Not Racist” guy is better?

Attached: 03C81206-C909-486A-8468-C11BCFA5097E.png (491x585, 56K)

>Ariel Pink has explicitly stated that he doesn't enjoy making music anymore and only does it as a job
This is why most music is shit. If you're not enjoying it how can you expect anyone else to enjoy it?

he didn't say that. did you finish high school? that reading comprehension is not really functioning my man

>t. hasn't actually read stirner

What part of this doesn’t say “Joyner Lucas is better than Kendrick Lamar?”

Attached: 1550F0AC-5B04-45A4-80D7-697713249A50.jpg (750x521, 168K)

Imagine being this sure of yourself and being so incorrect

The only thing I don't like about this interview is the porches song he mentions, cause its fucking garbage. Otherwise, if this was a hip hop artist, everyone would be eating this up.

>Otherwise, if this was a hip hop artist, everyone would be eating this up.
What a stupid fucking post

Attached: 162626-004-C076EDBD.jpg (360x450, 26K)

seriously, wtf is wrong with you?

No part says Joyner better, just more inspiring to him for whatever reason

This is either pedantry or autism

how many more times does this need to happen?

when will people learn that listening to celebrities/ musicians for socio-economic and political opinions is like asking a football player about science

Attached: TAKEOFF.gif (480x270, 2.28M)

you mean you saying he said something that he didn't say?

are we gonna keep pretending that the kendrick features on every fucking album are not cringey?
