Moral of the movie is that killing and violence is wrong

>moral of the movie is that killing and violence is wrong
>half the entire movie is gory war porn that glorifies killing and violence

I don't get it

literally thought it was a spoof from the clips i just watched. turns out its legit.
really make uthinkk

Did you even watch the movie you meme spouting fuck?

>moral of the movie is that killing and violence is wrong
Your problem is this. The movie absolutely did not try to say this.

Something about the duality of man sir.

>moral of the movie is that excessive sex is wrong
>half the movie is porn that glorifies fucking and degeneracy

Duality of HWAT?

>those digits

>moral of the movie is that killing and violence is wrong
That wasn't the moral. The moral was that you don't need weapons to win a war. Not that it was wrong.

>put down your arms, goys
>violence is not the answer

>entire first half is Desmond Doss sperging out over "though shalt not kill" meme

Did you negroids watch the kino?

7 and 6 apparantly

Retarded redditors posting shitty bait again.
The moral was to stand by what you believe, even in the occasion of extreme adversity or hardship

Mel has to make it "entertaining", using the "war is hell" cliche as a pretext

It doesn't though

That wasn't the moral either. The moral was to serve your country like a man.
but seriously I guess the moral was to stand by your beliefs

>the law
>THE LAW

So, as someone who identifies as a pacifist, I actually liked what Based Mel did with this film quite a bit.

The core theme was about the cost of violence, and this theme was spread throughout the movie in a satisfying way without feeling overly in-your-face.

You get the obvious stuff, like the hardships Doss goes through because hw doesnt want to commit violence and the obvious mental struggle he's been through because of his near violent act in the past, leading to his current convictions.

You also get the story of Doss' father, who was clearly destroyed by the violence he endured (which in turn lead to Doss' brush with violence, showing the cyclical nature of it all).

The "gore porn" was an attampt to get across the pure horror and brutality of war, in a visceral, shocking way. The scene where Doss washes of all the blood is showcasing how awful things were, how high the costs of this violence was.

You even get that excellent scene of the Japanese commander committing ritual suicide, showing yet another side of the cost that war and violence has.

Overall, I think it's an excellently crafter cilm that gets its message across quite well to anyone paying attention.

Based Mel indeed.

>So, as someone who identifies as a pacifist
Stopped reading right here. You're either tremendously stupid or you're just shilling for Daddy Mel.

>don't want to kill people
>become a medic that'll fix other people up so they can kill more
I am no expert in this but isn't this just a more indirect way to kill people? And didn't he kick a grenade into a bunch of japs too?

I think Mel did a good job on this film, certainly, as you would know if you read the rest of my post.

However that has nothing to do with my belief system, which I held long before Gibson made this film.

no retard, it wasn't the moral of the story, it was only Doss' moral. He didn't gave fuck to force it on the others

>"war is hell"
>cliché
you should be at school at this time, child.

or in syria

Mel is a senile hack and the movie was a piece of shit

no you underage faggot
it brought back quality and capital MOVIE experience back to fucking pc holywood.

you can mock it for the bodyshield and granadekicking scenes, but it's upon a real fucking story

Let's be honest, the real reason this movie is a piece of garbage is the first hour. The whole fucking thing is one cliche after another.

I would've been okay if they just set up the relationship and the war, but then you move onto bootcamp and you have your cliche "introduce everyone who is going to die" scene, your cliche "drill sergeant yells scene," your "training where you introduce rivalry" scene, and then a whole cliche section where the hero fights against an institution full of 1 dimensional villains in order to hold up his lofty, if not idiotically lofty, principles. Writing doesn't get more by-the-books than this

life is a cliché though

Truffaut said that it's impossible to really make an anti-war film because war by its very nature is exciting.

it's possible

it just has to be a 4 month long movie with lots of waiting around and doing chores

The war scenes are worse than the boot camp. At first I was like "cool, over the top violence, I get it" but after one straight hour of people getting shot and explosions everywhere I realized that Mel is just a bad director who wanted to make violence porn and nothing else.

Also Garfield acts bad. 4/10 movie

>i watch movies looking for moral guidance

>introduce everyone who is going to die
nigger did you forget to finish the movie

jarhead desu

so they didn't all die. It's not even a subversion of the cliche because the real problem with the cliche is that you learn about all of them in rapid-fire succession and then they're basically left undeveloped for the rest of the film.

shut up retard

Easy. Make film about how the rich and powerful never send their sons into war, how the military industrial complex manufactures consent through propaganda to initiate war for profit, how governments create false flag events for causus belli, and how men at war always get cucked by their women back home who were supposed to "wait" for their return.

Send me my nobel peace prize when?

what do chomskyfags think about world war 2 and the korean war?

>>half the entire movie is gory war porn that glorifies killing and violence

Autism is disgusting.

this. most young men love war, why do you think so many are always eager to go sign up and die fighting war. young men are evolutionary wired to love the bloodlust of war so much they are willing to risk losing their life over it.

why do you think video games and action movies are so popular. its in our genetics to love violence.

no it was about his conviction to his religion, you fuck

>tfw the battlefield is the size of a basketball court

This shit is funnier than Tropic Thunder

Lot of retardation in this thread, maybe Mel had a goal in mind with the film, but considering its based on historical context you can also assume he had no 'moral of the story' in mind.

I did see Mel say that he wanted to make this film because of the bravery RL Doss had. Which is objectively a shit ton.

Doss is the perfect example of what every individual who chooses religion should be. They follow their beliefs while not preaching them to others or enforcing those beliefs on others.

Doss wanted to serve his country, he wanted to be side by side by other men who choose to fight for him - the thought of working in a factory while they were dying was enough for him to sacrifice a peaceful life with a beautiful wife.

Frankly I think Mel did a spectacular job of avoiding any agendas whatsoever, I think the movie probably would have been better with a more charismatic lead though.

Sentiments so beautifully expressed in brilliant scenes such as this one
I was moved

good post my man

It was very worrisome for the movie to take so long to get to the action scenes everybody obviously wanted and then seeing this only minutes into the "gruesome war scenes" I had heard about.

Most of it was better after this but wow, what a stupid way to begin the battle scenes.

Chomsky kinda defended Pol Pot and Slobodan Milosofag, make of that what you will.

Why are reddit cucks so triggered by this kino?

Mel has a weird sense of humor. There is a guy dressed like Waldo in the pit of bodies in Appocalypto.

>guys I can post the same 3 webms over and over but never offer any real critique

That one with Gyllenhall the marine sniper was as close as it could get. So damned anti climatic save for the airstrike

good post too.

only:
>would have been better with a more charismatic lead though
nah, IRL Doss wasn't a very pretty guy either as i saw on the footage. Also it would've been the opposite of the whole (as you said) spectacular job of avoiding any agendas , and would imply only beautiful people are heroes

I get what you mean, I mostly meant some actor I could like more, I just don't like Garfield I suppose.

>as someone who identifies as
Stopped reading here, fuck off Tumblr.

This thread made me finally realize how big of a pleb filter this movie is.
And that Sup Forums is full of them.

you mean it's nothing as deep as BvS, right?

you clearly dont get it
