To those who are religious, does your religion affects what music you listen to?

To those who are religious, does your religion affects what music you listen to?

I recently became catholic, and I feel guilty listening to some music I used to listen to. Does anybody else feels like that?

Young religious people are the absolute worst. You emotionally dishonest larpers disgust me.

I know what you mean man, but honestly I doubt God gives a fuck if you listen to ed sheeren

What is wrong with browsing Sup Forums? There's a lot of sinful content here, but outside of it, you can find a lot of useful info too, you just need to ignore the sinful content

I think you belong in a subreddit bud

Catholics don't shy away from reality like proddies do

Don't be Catholic. Many tenants of Catholicism are anti-biblical, i.e. worshiping Mary, calling the priest "father," confessing... Read the Bible for yourself, but don't conform to any religious standard.
To answer your question, my tastes in music have shifted drastically since coming to faith. I mostly just gravitate towards things that celebrate truth and beauty more. Just throw out anything that appears to be trashy now. There are plenty of artists out there who are still very worthwhile.

I listened to TLOP once and instantly appeared in a church
I'm the Pope now

Catholics just shy away from what the actual Bible says, and replace it with whatever their congregation says. (the Pope is a man of Satan, by the way)

I'm Christian and i don't listen to a lot of heavy metal not because theyre satanists but because the album covers look like shit

I'm an atheist and Sufjan Steven's Seven Swans is still my fucking jam. Enjoy music dude.

I'm asian

The bible proves the papacy, and the Catholic church wrote the bible. Everything you take issue with is in the scriptures, but why do the scriptures have any authority? Who authoritatively binded together the books in the bible?

Attached: 1518153625842.jpg (1156x1700, 615K)

Prots reject the following:

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

You just said the bible proves the papacy, and then proceeded to question the authority of the bible. So you effectively dismantled your own argument for Catholicism.

I don't understand; which part of that do Protestants reject. I believe in the whole Bible. That's why I can't be a Catholic. (praying to Mary is pagan mother goddess worship. praying to saints is also sacrilege. Christ said, "No man may come to the Father, but by me.")

I'm Catholic as well, still listen to a variety of stuff but I've mostly stopped listening to tasteless degenerate shit (rap, pop). Still enjoy black metal interestingly enough, I just avoid the straight-up blasphemous stuff (which is usually style over substance garbage as it is so I'm rarely missing much).
Since getting more seriously into it I've gotten more into experimental drone/ambient/minimalism stuff, it feels a lot more tasteful and meaningful than something like emo or indie, a lot of that just sounds grating and immature now, not sure if that has to do with religion or my natural progression into an avant-teen

Let me explain, the church was given it's authority from Christ who was the revealed logos incarnate. He gave Peter the keys to bind and loose, and sent his apostles to feed his sheep. In the beginning the church passed down this revelation through oral tradition, it was some time before the scriptures were even fully compiled but in short the church proves the scriptures and their correct interpretations

>Durr Catholics pray to saints
Biggest way to make it look like you have no clue what you're talking about. Idolatry is and has always been heresy.
Prods threw away reverence of human perfection and unity with God, one of the greatest keys to living a holy life, because Martin Luther was butthurt about something a 10 year old could understand better than him

>hurr the earth is 6000 years old bro

>praying to Mary is pagan mother goddess worship
Do you just repeat shit Youth Pastor Jimmy tells you?
The Hail Mary is no different than asking your own parents to pray for you in a difficult time.
Mary and the saints were heroes who achieved some of the highest levels of devotion to God- why shouldn't they be venerated and asked to pray for us?

I have a Catholic aunt who prays to saints. So exccuuuussse me, user. Christ was expressing that his spirit sactified Peter. Through Christ we are made perfect. Man has no divinity of his own.

Holy moly are you bigoted. I have no pastor. I don't go to a church. I'm a free man, unbound by institution. Communing with the dead is demonology. Something the Catholics have yet to grasp, I suppose.

Unfortunately some people mistakenly do pray to saints, which is a grave sin. Some people get superstitious with Catholic practices (rosaries, candles, indulgences, generally the stuff Hispanics do for some reason) which is heretical in itself. No one is or can become perfect (aside from Mary, who was conceived without sin), but respecting and looking up to people who have made great strides out of faith and holiness is a good way to become closer to the holy way of life.
>I'm a free man, unbound by institution
Boy getchyo ass

Tom Araya is Catholic... That's all u need to know.

I agree that it's ok to have reverence towards saints, and a holy way of living. Only one who ever lived was sinless, however, and that was Christ. Mary was just a woman, who happened to be chosen by God. Jesus even says that no one should worship her, but I can't remember which verse that is...

>human perfection
unless you're talking about Jesus, this is not a thing.

The body(church) should have never let itself get divided like this. Disregard what men tell you, unless God is speaking through them. People take faith and exploit it for control and notoriety. People are severely flawed and can ruin lots of things. If you're ever confused about something you heard about God and life you can literally ask Him. That was one of the points of His sacrifice. You don't have to kill an unblemished animal to pay for your sins before approaching God anymore. You can cover yourself in the blood of Jesus every moment of every day.

We sit around arguing over jumbled messages from a centuries-long game of telephone when the word is in our laps and we can ask God directly for guidance and understanding. Get grounded or people and malevolent forces will lead you astray.

Listen to music that uplifts you and doesn't lead you into whatever your destructive weaknesses are. I try not to listen to music that puts me in certain kinds of moods or attacks me spiritually.
I do still like certain bands that help me deal with my anger (grew up in abusive home).
but I could honestly just get into prayer instead of listening to Korn whenever the trauma is knocking.

good bands: mewithoutYou (incredible lyrics. front guy's a poet), everything by Fred Hammond is an absolute bop, he's got a great voice...early Paramore and Flyleaf are pretty good too. Lifehouse, if you like that cheesy late 90s/early 2000s sound.

>korn
>Fred Hammond
just realized that clearly slap bass is crucial to my listening pleasure...

I agree with your sentiment but human weakness is precisely the reason authority is needed. Personal relationship with God is obviously hugely important but a "just figure it out yourself" leads the weak-willed to dangerous "Jesus said 'judge not', guess that means I'm fine to fuck strangers and get an abortion teehee" shit. My relationship with God is very personal but I don't feel like my interpretation of his will should be- I trust 2000 years of the smartest theologians and philosophers far more than I trust my own confirmation bias.

>Jesus said 'judge not', guess that means I'm fine to fuck strangers and get an abortion teehee
my dude, no one would rationalize this way.

it's silly to think that booksmart intelligent people are immune to manipulation or darkness. How much trust did Jesus put in the Scribes, Pharisees, and Saducees?
they were the worst because they feigned piety and read all texts up and down, but were proud, empty, and sinful. Judged everyone from a fake platform of righteousness and didn't help one person who was in need.

with spiritual discerning, you can tell a true messenger from the dishonest and ill.

not at all. its just music

>he fell for the /lit/ Christianity meme
You don't have to base all of your life choices on being a contrarian, user

I was raised Catholic (and still am), and no I don't. I tend to avoid overtly blasphemous music and imagery, but that doesn't mean I don't listen to music made by people that aren't Catholic or hold my political beliefs. As long as it doesn't compel you to sin or put you in the occasion of sin you should be ok. Music isn't porn.

>stop being contrarian and worship satan with us

absolutely diabolical

I like artists better if i know theyre christian/ have christian undertones in their music

>stop being contrarian and worship satan with us
>absolutely diabolical
You don't even know what it is. Those people don't worship a red giant with horns, they are atheists and secular humanists.

Jokes aside, it’s always great news to hear about more coming to Christ. As for your question, yeah, I’d say that as I’ve gotten older (even though I’m still only 19), I’ve become more cautious of my music taste. Don’t get me wrong. I still like my No Wave and Experimental Rock, Industrial Hip Hop, Noise/Drone, etc. But, still, I’ve found myself listening to less experimental music and becoming more welcoming of the conventional in music (and art in general). I listen to hip hop less often too. I’ve also found myself actively seeking out Christian music more than ever. I’ve been listening to a lot of Christian metal lately and so far, the discovery has been a ridiculous amount of fun.

Overall, I’d say my music taste has changed as a result of my faith, buuuuut, it hasn’t changed drastically. I still can’t at all stomach Hillsong United for instance. But, I definitely make some effort to stay away from that which is anti-Christian/blasphemous. Like A Perfect Circle’s “Judith” is musically incredible, but I’m just not going to sit there and listen to Maynard blaspheme the name of Christ. (I understand the frustration underlying the song though.)

Also, interesting to see some admit they still listen to Black Metal. I like it too (though lyrics can of course be quite unfortunate). I’d recommend Antestor and Sanctifica if any of you anons want some good “Unblack Metal”.

The “larping” Christians tend to be the Sup Forums types. They may be more attracted to the faith, simply because “Judeo-Christian values, traditionalism, and Western Civilization!!!! :DDD”. And yeah, some simply like to be contrarian. Regardless, plz no bully us younger Christian folk. ;_;

This is a good character. I can see it being pretty effective. Good work, brother!

Jesus Christ, what the fuck is wrong with you

user, the reason most people come to Sup Forums is the sinful content. If all you want is useful info there are many less sinful sites you could get it from.

>I’ve been listening to a lot of Christian metal lately and so far, the discovery has been a ridiculous amount of fun.
>Christian metal
I can imagine that being a ridiculous amount fun for me, though maybe not for the same reasons it's fun for you.

I come here because it's the only chance I have of finding genuinely interesting conversation. In the haystack of freaks and shitposters there are some very interesting people to converse with, a lot with similar outlooks and thoughts.
If you go to reddit or social media you just get HIV from the inauthenticity and utter void of self-awareness.
After you get "into" Sup Forums no other forum will do it for you (unless you get into spree killer shit like MPC)

I'm non-denominational christian and I've never felt "guilty" for listening to certain types of music or am against listening to certain types of music. You really think God cares if you listen to Metallica? Most music is all just an act anyway; there are a lot of people behind these acts who have proven themselves to be smarter or better people than other, more radicalized, christians. For example, Marilyn Manson performs a lot of music that contains tons of content one may consider anti-christian, but the man himself is quite smart and does a lot of good.

The only thing faith has changed in my music taste is maybe I'm more likely to listen to new music that has a christian slant to it? Like, if it has biblical themes.
