GOOD HORROR

I just realized I've never rated a horror movie more than 4 stars.

What are some great horror movies?

- Kairo
- Cure (1997)
- The Chaser
- Audition
- Son of Saul
- The Seventh Continent (existential horror)
- Them
- Gozu (surreal and disturbing)
- Martyrs
- Inside
- .REC
- .REC 2
- Sequestrados

bump for more suggestions.

Alien, Halloween, The Thing, The Witch and It Follows are all great.

have not seen The Witch yet. Am I missing out?

Depends on your tastes. It's actually pretty polarizing (compare the critic vs. audience score on RT), mostly due to the very slow pacing. But if you like atmospheric horror and historical movies, you'll probably like it.

In the Mouth of Madness
Re-Animator
Street Trash
The Fly

The truest Horror-kino of all time is unequivocally The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Seriously, watch it. You'll start judging all other horror movies against it.

"On a scale of 1 to the Cabinet, how good of a horror film is it?"

Psycho
Night of the Living Dead
Halloween
Alien
The Shining
The Thing
Videodrome
The Fly
Blue Velvet
Silence of the Lambs
American Psycho
The Witch

There's more that I like but those are my 5/5s.

The Cremator

Videodrome

Peeping Tom

Suspiria

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Possession (1981)

Rosemary's Baby

The Exorcist

Blood and Black Lace

Martyrs
The Exorcist
Kill List
Cannibal Holocaust
Night/Dawn/Day of the Dead
Return of the Living Dead
Poltergeist
Dog Soldiers
Man Bites Dog
Zombie Flesh Eaters / Zombi 2
Cemetery Man / Dellamorta Dellamore
Texas Chainsaw Massacre

If you want something really old go watch The Bride of Frankenstein. Shit's amazing.

>black and white
>predates spoken dialogue in movies

There's a certain limit for how old something can be and still be entertaining.

It just depends how good they are at conveying ideas and emotion without words. There are many silent films I find very entertaining.

Alien, The Thing, The Shining, The Fly, Cabin in the Woods would probably be my top 5.

I also really liked 28 Days Later.

Alien
Psycho
(Shining)

>posts a non-moving gif
>posts a silent movie
aren't you a little too old for this board gramps?

Some good recs in this thread,
This guy knows his shit.

You should all just wait 2-3 years and I'll make the ultimate horror movie, believe me. No jump scares, no horror tropes, just cryptic narrative, off-kilter editing and cinematography and alien music

Antichrist
The Orphanage
The Wailing
The Grudge (american remake)
The Ring (american remake)
The Sixth Sense

From beyond

Unironically Blair witch project

>Blood and Black Lace
Muh nigga that movie is a masterpiece, personally like it more than Suspiria.

Also would have to recommend Terrorvision, for me it's a 5/5 just for how much fun it is.

The Chaser and Martyrs are the best ones on that list. I would like to add Shining and Alien
