Who here thought Black Sails was a decent attempt at depicting piracy and european colonization of the new world?
Much the same way as Deadwood stripped away all the hollywood cliches from the western genre, I think Black Sails stripped away the hollywood cliches from the swashbuckling genre.
Pros: -Acting was mostly good, sometimes very good -They spent a lot on costuming and sets to make them as authentic as possible on a tv budget. -The pushed political realism as far as they could go with a general audience who doesnt know the first thing about the history of that time
Cons: -The dialog got soap opera-ish, the overall script felt like a rush job and was not well thought out -3D graphics of ship models was poor, Ive seen better ship models in video games -The sea tactics were lacking for anyone who is familiar with it, they could have had more nautical realism
It's watchable trash. I like it but no, it's still very fucking Hollywood and filled with pirate cliches, I have no idea how you could come to that conclusion if you've actually read anything about the history of piracy.
The real history of the Golden Age of Pirates would make for a great mini series or 3 season show, I don't understand why they feel the need to play fast and loose with it and put all of the Treasure Island characters in there

>cons: the creole nigress is still alive and relevant for the plot ftfy

Ethan Morales
She's hot but not hot enough to justify screen time, especially when you have to put up with her retarded, unintelligible accent.
Jeremiah Rogers
She sucks at acting. She delivers all her lines in the same monotone.
Ann Bonney is hotter btw.
Evan Carter
your "cons" are bullshit
Aaron Green
she probably/maybe will have some big role in the end and her accent is charming. she's a whore, that's why he made it perfect
Alexander Green
I'll admit most people dont care about my cons, I just happen to like technical accuracy of ship and historical accuracy
Jaxon Barnes
The cinematography was poor and they glamorized the violence and filled it with sex and other liberal plugins for muh womenz.
John Edwards
>-3D graphics of ship models was poor, Ive seen better ship models in video games
all the ships are real you dumb cunt
Caleb Wilson
>stripped away the Hollywood cliches The first 10 minutes of the first episode are enough to prove you wrong. The exotic hot guy who looks like he walked out of a Playboy cover becomes the main character.
Even PotC had the decency to have the pirates funny-looking, if not downright hideous.
Josiah Evans
>and filled it with sex and other liberal plugins for muh womenz let me draw a paralel for you in the western genre, have you watched the tv series Gunsmoke? Have you ever wondered what job kitty had at a saloon? She was always there, she never served drinks. Guess what...she was a whore. It was very common to have saloon whores at that time but the hollywood western genre whitewashed that. Same with 17th century carribean, whores were common, sorry if that doesnt fit your politically correct and historically inaccurate perception of that time
Evan Green
season 3 has like 2 implied sex scene
Andrew Morgan
I'm saying that any historical show that has women in combat or running what would be a mostly male operation is highly historically inaccurate. Women took a backseat for most of history and only wielded soft power through familial relations or sexual capital. Same with that garbage show Vikings. Women did not go raiding with men.
Bentley Scott
>The sea tactics were lacking for anyone who is familiar with it. How it always look more realistic than POTC
Easton Peterson
this. far more.
Also >that ship capturing event narrated by Flint or >waiting at the horizon with sails down This show told many see tactics, more than all sea show/movies before combined.
But yeah, keyboardseamanOP knows better...
Tyler Anderson
There were a few women who had prominent roles as pirates, not a lot, but a few. Also piracy was semi-legitimate and there were some pirates who took part in building cities and territories for colonization. So the story of Black Sails was a lot closer to reality than people might imagine.
Nathan Harris
Anne Bonny took part in combat alongside men. So did Mary Read. Excluding Eleanor Guthrie that part is not hard to believe.
The combat at least makes an effort to be historically accurate and they did a surprisingly good job blending the Treasure Island characters in with the real ones.
Elijah Watson
to me, 75% of the enjoyment of this show comes from mirin' billy bones desu
Angel Turner
Pic related is the only movie I've seen that does sea tactics better/as good.
Levi Ramirez
I didn't understand that movie at all
Ryder Ramirez
Only retards hate this show.
Jace Bailey
>its a the token nigger its actually a secret king episode
Logan Brooks

Joseph Perez
>Spent every scrap of money and resources he had earned from a life of servitude to build a small secret community for his people >Gets shot and dies, leaving his life's work in the hands of his wife and daughter >Wife immediately starts chimping out and wanting tribal warfare >Daughter takes control and throws away everything you built on a fools gambit raging against the crown because she has a crush on a greasy Italian. Women. Not even once.
Matthew Russell

Hunter White
did nothing wrong
Jose Collins
Its not like he was the king of very much, he led a village of slaves because he had the knowledge to do so and helped them live a life away from their oppressors. I think thats pretty believable that he would be considered their king after all hes done for them.
Alexander Richardson
>>waiting at the horizon with sails down >This show told many see tactics, more than all sea show/movies before combined. this is what I'm talking about, a ship cant chase another ship with half its sails down. All it would take is to read a couple of books on naval tactics in the age of sail or talk to some experts, but no, they have to make stupid shit up
>all the ships are real you dumb cunt I know everyone doesnt have an eye for photorealism but I cant believe that computer graphics that bad actually fools people
Julian Sanchez
any good books you'd recommend for learning about pirate history?
>this is what I'm talking about, a ship cant chase another ship with half its sails down. they haven't chase any ship then, they waited to go back invading the coast or something
>computer graphics that bad actually fools people imdb.com/title/tt2375692/awards >good enough for emmy's pro critics, not good enough for Sup Forums specialist just go back to Sup Forums, damnit
