>Start to learn about music theory
>all the music I used to like now sounds like generic simple trash

That's not how it works.

popular music is trash though.

Why are you complaining? You've ascended.
Also, did you teach yourself?

yeah I'm reading a music theory book.

Ok? What does that have to do with music theory?

hHAHA dedue NICE!!!!! HPW DID U GET SO SMART??? WTF

>I can't not
maybe you should start to learn about english next :~)

Congrats on becoming a pretentious douche, you earned it

how can you enjoy something that is basically so easy to compose and is basically GARBAGE.

I'm spic.

yep, that's what happens when you have shit taste

More complex does not equal better.

What book is it?

>music I used to like
such as?

being simple does not equal garbage.

Fur elise = simple
radio music = dude, let's just repeat the same basic chord over and over again.

I was reading TL:DR music.

the music I hear on radio.
I was joking It's my favorite music.
In fact I don't like radio music.

>learn grammar
>wtf all literature looks like the same structure, same formula
Holy fuck im so smert

Attached: 1481074909683.png (527x554, 313K)

There's great music that consists of one chord being repeated over and over.

except radio music takes no creativity or even artistic purpose beyond selling music about drugs, crime or having sex beyond marriage.

basically trash.

>In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

It's G - Em - C - D throughout most of it and it still is a great fucking song.

Who cares? It's always been like that and always will. Why even waste your time talking about this? Go listen to some good tunes.

holy SHIT dude you are so fucking smart dude

It's just trash, and I can't listen to it nomore.

It's just a basic pop orchestra band or some version, some shitty cliche chord progression made of three chords, add some vocal line with almost no counterpoint, some dancing rythm that every other uses, some bass for no reason playing the same arpeggio over and over again.

It's like after learning the basics of cooking, to say that fast food is some marvel of food.

No, it's trash and it makes you fat and sick.

fuck off.

If all you enjoyed was stuff you herard on the radio you haven't lost much.

all the music I enjoyed was weeb shit, which I can still like.

radio music is now like smelling dog shit.

Ok then just listen to good tunes from now on.

youtube.com/watch?v=4Tr0otuiQuU

I was watching some bach stuff and is like a magical experience now.

I always wanted to listened clasical shit but I never understood it.

Is like reading literature for the first time after learning to read.

>be me
>play guitar
>fall for the music theory meme
>look into it
>ruin music for myself
>i don't even write stuff anyways
Don't do it, Sup Forums, it's gonna fuck you over.

Quality of music is about more than just technical complexity though, like a vocal performance is often just as relevant (in certain genres) and not that related to theory.

OP is a known Sup Forums troll
do not reply

>play in tech-metal band
>start learning music theory
>everything sounds too simple
>start taking classical guitar lessons from teacher
>become professional classical musician
>start appreciating nice simple songs and melodies
>now exclusively listen to classical, k-pop, and cozy coffee shop music
>and like 3 metal albums

it's crazy how fast and drastic music taste changes

This is trash. Fuck off classicalfag.

>I'm spic
well, that's the problem dear, try kill yourself and reincarnate in something with more melanine instead

we wouldn't know of any nigger musician in history if it wasn't for whites.

literally music theory, harmony, music notation, music recording softwares, DAWS are white inventions.

niggers didn't made music beyond humping sticks on drums before whites taught them about anything else than rythm.

>niggers didn't made music beyond humping sticks on drums before whites taught them about anything else than rythm.
this is how I know you're talking straight out of your ass

harmony = invented by whites
popular ballad songs = invented by whites
bass = invented by whites
counter point = invented by whites
Major and minor scales = invented by whites
7th chords = invented by whites

Even the music instruments that niggers use are european instruments.

[citation needed]

>there were niggers in europe before the XX century

>being so far up your own ass you can't enjoy a simple I V IV anymore
get over yourself OP

i've known a fair amount of music theory since junior high
i don't get people that say simpler music is unlistenable because they know theory

Attached: 1483653713585.jpg (400x379, 41K)

why can't you enjoy something that is easy to compose
you've gotta learn to listen to pop music for the right reasons and acknowledge those m8

>I enjoy trap

i enjoy beatdown hardcore too

there were
still waiting on your citations for your bullshit claims

what the fuck does Trap have to do with the most common chord progression in music?

>trap
>music

If you knew anything about the history of music which you don't, all cultures knew harmony, simply because of the fact that voice and instruments have overtones from which musical scales were derived from. The first couple overtones actually form a 7th chord by the way.

this thread is bait

your vague and surface-level criticisms of pop music tell me a lot about you, mainly that you don't know anything about the history of pop music.

meant to quote

>i'm spic
vete al carajo you goddamn water rat

youtube.com/watch?v=79DijItQXMM

It will help in the end

Your the idiot who fell for the music theory meme, apart from one thread, everyone here always discourages it so it's your own fault

Melody >>>>>>>>>> chord progression

retard

wall soon

OP, of course, is a fag. Don't waste your time with this thread

OP is based as fuck. Pathetic pop shills ITT are doing so much damage control to silence this one man who speaks nothing but truth about their shitty braindead music.

that didn't happen for me when i learned theory. i became more appreciative of complex and intricate music but i can still love simple songwriting if it's tasteful and passionate and it has great atmosphere.

>be me
>learn water theory
>tfw can't enjoy water anymore

>am dickless wombat btw

This is common knowledge. Oh what, did you actually think that the piano is the fruit of the Negro's mind?

Pic semi related.

There was like, one Negro violinist. Blacks in Europe were a non-entity.

Think too much about anything, and that's what you get.

Music is all about feels, soul, heart. spirit, and beyond the primitive brain.

So.. How much theory did you learn? Where should I stop exactly?

people obsess over music theory because they can't play an instrument and it acts as a replacement.
it's not.

kek, this.

I think stopping is the problem. People take a couple semesters and think that baroque-classical theory is all there is. They stop before the complexities of the romantic era as well as the death of tonality (in Europe) and rise of The Blues (in America) blew the pipe wide open for the incredible array of vastly different musics that were created in the 20th century. The reason all that Bach/Mozart counterpoint/cadence stuff is taught first is because it's important to understand the history of how we got here. To stop there, however, is incredibly limiting and only shuts down your appreciation of current music.

For instance, the classical function of a dominant seventh chord (a tension that MUST resolve to a triadic tonic) cannot account for the 12-bar blues form, which is comprised of almost entirely dominant seventh chords, and ENDS on a dominant seventh chord but still somehow sounds resolved. It also sounds damn good. In this new, much denser, harmonic world of jazz and blues, 7th chords are just the norm.

Music theory is descriptive, not prescriptive, which means it is always changing, and the "rules" of music simply depend on the kind of music you wish to create.
If you want to sound "hip" in a jazz tune, heavily alter the dominant chord and never resolve to a major triad, because otherwise it'll sound square (also learn The Lick, everybody loves that thing and will think you're really cool)!
If you want to write something that sounds really scary and cool on an organ, don't forget your applied dominants in minor keys (i - V7/iv - iv), otherwise it'll just sound like that shitty New Age yani crap!
If you want to alienate your audience, write 12-tone rows!

Do you see what I'm trying to get at here? Music theory is just a set of guidelines to achieve certain effects; they all vary according to style and context, and if you don't want those effects, don't follow the rules!

And, if you want to actually appreciate radio again, learn about music production, mess around with creating many different and unique types of synthesizers, the proper ways to pan audio, mixing and mastering. That's where the true artistry of pop music is today, not in the compositional complexity, but the studio work. And hey, you might just find something that surprises you one day and has a pretty funky groove to it (like 24k Magic for me).

youtube.com/watch?v=qFW2W2gCcd0 comes to mind

Do you watch Rick and Morty by any chance?

listen to better shit then
