Is there any good modern folk music? Anything that can come even close to the level of Jackson C Frank?

You come to wrong place to ask about good folk.
I dont really like folk or have much knowledge about it but i like matt elliot
Where is the right place? It's not Reddit.
no

Good shit thanks
thats some good shit. the only thing is i think there is too much chocolate. i always eat around all the chocolate so i end up with mostly that white shit. gets your hands sticky as fuck
really? they've always been overrated imo. just eat caramel filled kisses desu.
good thread desu
Carmel kisses are not good. Spend the money on some good caramel chocolate. I eat those eggs only because of the white shit.
Bert Jansch’s post-2000 albums Crimson Moon and The Black Swan were both excellent. Not sure if it counts when he was a 60s folk star though.
I write folkish songs and I don't think they're too bad.

can you post some lyrics
oh boy, well most of my lyrics are probably gonna sound pretty dumb without the music but okay. Here's the most recent song I've written.
One day we’ll be quiet and hear
The melody of a rocking chair
As the dying leaves weave through the sighing air
And the trees have no need to be pitied.
All the broken glass and urban decay
Leave bold outlines as they’re washed away
But have you ever seen such a perfect day?
Beneath the harsh skyline of the city?
Bb D7 Gm C7 F7
So the desert willow grows
When the desert lizard chose its skin
But who wants to know?
If there’s a better time for us to begin.
The groundskeeper and the summer rain
Rip out all the weeds as they circulate.
And so I’ll never see the symmetry in how they lay
A bird that never flies is not a stone.
All the chattering of the new display
Is supposedly the sign of a coming age
There are screams coming down the old alleyway
You can hear but only when you’re alone
And so the epidemic grows
And the denizens flows on in
But who’d want to know?
When the withering starts to begin.
ah shit didn't mean to leave that part with the chords in.
you're really going at it with the secondary dominants there
I should probably know what this means but I don't.
Post a recording user, it’s hard to judge a song on lyrics alone.
I too enjoy writing folk songs, here’s one of mine:

get fucked kid. time to become the next dylan
Alrighty sorry for the wait, this song has some funky guitar parts so it took me a bit to get it right.
Also listened to your song, was nice. Keepin it simple melody wise but I think it works well.
u wot m8
Pretty good, not what I expected when I read the lyrics. You have a decent voice.
>Also listened to your song, was nice. Keepin it simple melody wise but I think it works well.
Thanks. I have only been learning guitar for nine months which is partly the reason for the simplicity, working on some more complex songs but quite difficult to play fingerstyle without obvious errors.
That said, part of the appeal of folk for me is the excellent results that can be produced with simple melodies and few chords, Blues Run The Game or She Belongs to Me for example.
>not what I expected
Sorry, to clarify not meaning the lyrics weren’t good, just expected it to be a bit darker but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
>u wot m8
these are my lyrics now
Oh I definitely get ya, didn't take that as a bad thing. I like it when things have that kind of a tonal clash.
Sorry to break it to you bud but you're gonna have to use lyrics that are much better than mine if you wanna be the next Dylan.
these lyrics are better than that hack
Yeah, I am trying to do the same thing with my song to an extent, a weird little murder ballad but if you weren’t paying attention to the lyrics you probably wouldn’t notice it was dark.
No they're not. I played that song at an open mic and people threw tomatoes at me.
>threw tomatoes
Jesus seriously? What shithole was this venue?
metaphorical tomatoes not literal ones
Angels of light.

Just got the Domino reissue the other day, sounds beautiful.
Am I alone in thinking that Peasant is a step down lyrically from his last three albums?
Andrew Jackson jihad and Jessica Pratt aren't bad.
