Metropolis (1927) Appreciation thread

Let's face it, it's a masterpiece

Dear Letzte Mann is better

Apples and oranges

>pre-1945 movie
>good

No thanks, I like not falling asleep while watching movies

...

>Pre-1990 movie

Haha, i'll pass. I prefer to catch my zzz's in bed, not in front of a screen.

We've been over this. 1975 is the cutoff year.

I can't watch anything from last year without drifting off

The effects are marvellous. The story is a confused mess.
It's definitely not a masterpiece if one major aspect is complete garbage.

Why do the worker people forgive the CEO guy at the end right after he tries to genocide them?

Starts dragging a little in the final act, but other than that it's great.

The evil scientist tried to genocide them.

>boring as fuck commie story is a masterpiece
no.

Do you think there's a complete version in one of the loot piles of Hitler's stuff in a American military museum?

I liked M better

>Metropolis
>Commie
It was of Hitler's favourite movies...

Is there any release of this that doesn't look like shit? I thought analog film was supposed to be high quality.

No, sorry. The 2010 version is probably the best we'll ever get, and its about 1/3 taken from a 16mm copy in bad conditions..

and who was Hitler other than a german commie?

What are the attitudes towards authority in this film?

It's the most bizarre movie. First they rise up, then they forgive him? What the fuck are they trying to say?

Anyone have any insight into this? Total opposite of every "revolution" like movie I've seen.

I don't think so.
