As a child of the 70s I can tell you everyone watched this show. It came on while the Vietnam war was still going on, it was an anti-war show that dealt with the moral dilema people had with an oppressive war and set the tone for all the anti-war movies to follow. It had nothing at all to do with the movie MASH. When you watch the show now it is corny/campy trash, but you have to give Alan Alda a lot of credit for starting the whole touchy-feely anti-masculine male thing
