Been listening to nothing by sad music made by women lately, and I'm looking for recs.
Looking for anything like Sibylle Baier, Vashti Bunyan, Karen Dalton, etc. What have you got for me Sup Forums
Also, sad music general I guess?

Thanks for all these recs buds. This is my first time posting on this board since like 2012, good to know it's not all just fucking k pop threads
You are helping me through a good wallow, I owe ya one
please listen to the Sky Girl comp, its one of my favorite pieces of music ever. not all of it is female vocalists, but the entire album creates a mood of melancholy and desire like nothing else
I'm downloading all of these recs right now. I will start with this one. Thanks a lot for the rec, I'm stoked to scope it out!
Check out Julie Byrne and Grouper, too.
not OP but thanks for bringing Sky Girl to my attention!
so excited for you guys to listen to it! it really is a special piece of music, and opens your eyes to the vast world of private press records and rare gem mining

Anyone know of similar sounds to Aurora or Lana Del Rey?
thanks for the recs user, I havent heard of many of these
Came here to rec Connie Converse. Everyone else is already on it.
Mysterious outsider sad-girl folk. Is there anything better in the world?
Anyway, Essie Jain is very inconsistent, but she has some gems.

Also Anne Briggs.
Kath Bloom - Fall Again
Kath Bloom - Come Here
Laura Marling - My Manic and I. I'm not a fan of her new stuff but I feel she's become a bit more obscure as her career has died a little. It's fairly poppy stuff but it still falls into that sad female folk singer stuff.
>Kath Bloom
Good choice. I'd forgotten about her.
Also Judee fucking Sill.
pic is one of the darkest albums i've heard from a female artist. haven't gotten much out of the rest of her discography unfortunately but this album is very good and uniquely depressing.
+1
Also I know Angel Olsen is super meme-tier now, but Half Way Home and Strange Cacti are all-time favorites of mine (her other albums too, but they're stylistically quite different / not too relevant to this thread).
Mazzy Star.
Hope is the queen of sad girls.
Hope is the most Waifu of Waifus
She never struck me as terribly sad, though. Just private and contemplative.
