Funk is a lot of fun, but overrated and too gimmicky in general and very cringy when nerdy kids in 2018 do it.

>nerdy kids in 2018 do it
You can say Vulfpeck, we understand

Nice gif OP.
Yeah, it's good when done right but I don't know why every other modern indie faggot thinks they can pull it off.

It's either decent but ruined because the band is 5 white dudes who look like Coach Z or it's just vaguely electro funk where it sounds like wannabe Gap Band without any lyrical power behind the beat.

Trying to listen to more.

only good for sampling

Their veneration for and over-intellectualizing of what is really simple, visceral party music is the most pretentious, missed-the-point shit.

It's the classic hipster thing, make something out to be more than it is. Funk and disco can be deep but they're still at their core party music and trying to make every song a modern clone of "Family Affair" just makes it worthless to even do a song with a dark tone.

Its the only good music black people ever made, alongside Jazz.

new jack swing is the peak of music

I'm trying to branch out my funk taste since all I've really checked out was Superfly by Curtis Mayfield and Baby Huey. I am considering checking out stuff by The Meters.

I could use some suggestions in this genre tho that I should check out

Fucking corny

this

it's so boring listening to it on its own

Check out curtis's debut, people consider it pretty influential to funk, also check out Marvin Gaye, if you listen to hip-hop start doing research into the samples used, you can find some pretty obscure shit fast that way

Get out

*proceeds to listen to his cheesy black grandma music*

Friendly reminder that Eddie Murphy put out a funk, R&B album in the 80's with one song even produced by Rick James. It's fire

That's Christgau in a nutshell. Goddamn, quit trying to intellectualize it. It's just rock and roll.

anybody can recommend me bands that are similar to this?

I thought black grandmas sing gospel hymns in church.

hipsters love collecting this awful shit for some reason

Patrician

I love nu-disco and some electro funk.

I admit I don't particularly like Super Freak and Bustin' Out is actually Rick James's best song.

Not a big fan of Eddie's singing voice though.

Japanese funk is best funk

isn't it called city pop

The 80s was such a terribly tasteless decade it's ridiculous.

not as bad as the 2010's

yeah but this album specifically is more funk-based I thought it would be good at least to throw it here

There fans seem trash too honestly

love it all
