But that's not Wolf of Wallstreet

this

wolf is so much better. Gangs of new york is a melodramatic mess. I preferred the flat out comedy, plus Leo is much better in wolf

Hugo, Mean Streets and Cape Fear were all worse.

This.

WoWS is a pile of shit.

Ridley Scott: The Counselor
Fincher: Alien 3
Nolan: TDKR
Tarantino: Death Proof
Sofia Coppola: Bling Ring
F.F.Coppola: Twixt
Spielberg: Indiana Jones 4

>Mean Streets
p gud b8 m8

I dont get why Sup Forums hates Wolf of Wall street

Degeneracy

...

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore is worse. It's so incredibly boring.

Wtf ?? Real geniune answer ?? On Sup Forums ??? NOT ON MY WATCH FAGGET

ridley scott: robin hood
Nolan: interstellar

I don't either, nowhere else do I see it so widely disliked.

what are you, Sup Forums?

Mean Streets is kind of a mess. Direction is all over the place, the movie goes nowhere, and aside from DeNiro, all acting is really bland. Harvey Keitel was awful in it, you don't get at all what was his character's deal. It's got some great scenes and you can clearly see Scorsese's potential here and there, but overall the result is not that great.

The first 20 minutes of Zardoz might be the best bad movie ever, but it gets really boring really quickly

I agree. Its like a rough early cut of some of his later, much better movies (Goodfellas, taxi driver, Casino)

...

Normies like it.

THIS IS A KILL

see, they like it because they want to be like Leo. But the movie isnt endorsing what hes doing at all; its a surface level assessment

I understand. That's what happens with alot of fucking crime movies. From 1990-2005 every other teenaged boy whether ghetto or not had a fucking Scarface poster on his wall.

exactly. Even though scarface was a crazy, stupid asshole

>Alien 3
>bad
Get fucked, user.

its pretty shitty. The alien looks really fake

It's just teenaged angst.

As someone who unironically went to prison at a fairly young age none of the crime movies do it for me anymore.
Are there any that don't make everything seem glorious and great and just show some sad piece of shit living a sad miserable life ? City of God is a decent example of what I'm thinking of.

coen bros: lady killers

>Are there any that don't make everything seem glorious and great and just show some sad piece of shit living a sad miserable life ?

Sonatine. It's the movie that changed how I saw movie violence, and one of my absolute favorites

Not giving Connery that jabroni outfit would make the movie much better.

off to a bad start OP. this one's great.

FPBP

It sure as hell seemed like an endorsement.

>Ridley Scott: The Counselor

Over Prometheus, really? The Counselor was competent. People just didn't like the story.

...

no it would make it worse

still pretty enjoyable and the only romcom thats actually funny.

What is Lynch's worst film??

because it was so great when he hit his wife, did a bunch of drugs and got into a car wreck with his baby

Ladykillers was worse.

...

Mullohand Drive

Dune. its pure shit

fuck no it was better due to the music alone.

was it at least romkino?

I watched Elephant Man earlier and didn't care for it much. It's so one note and sentimental making Merrick the pure, nobly suffering naive, and Lynch's surrealist segments are completely out of place.

I haven't seen Dune though

That final show seems to go over people's heads too. Here's the man who lied and conned his way into wealth on the back other's misfortune, and there's the rubes starring rapturously at him. And people walk away not realizing which ones they are

All objectively false

worst taste imaginable. please either kill yourself or don't ever repeat your shit taste ever again. you probably think godfather is the best film ever.

youtube.com/watch?v=qq8u89sk2Ik

sure was

shutter island obviously

The Neon Demon - Refn

whats the worst scorsese movie than?

...

he had multiple stinkers, hard to say really

What? Normies hate WoWS because it doesn't spoon-feed them a moral lesson.

I refuse to watch this because I'm afraid it will make me hate Lynch and/or the Dune franchise

I think WoWS is way more moralistic than other Scorsese films. In Goodfellas and Casino he sort of leaves it up to the audience to figure how they feel on these scummy people, with WoWS he actively makes it as entertaining as possible then guilts us for enjoying it so much

Hugo

I like shutter Island, underrated movie actually

it has a lot of positives tbhfam

I didn't say it wasn't moralistic, just that it isn't moralistic in the sentimental, two-dimensional way normies are used to.

if you are gay for sting, maybe

Dune is awesome. It's the most accurate plebfilter ever conceived.

Not him but I really like most* of the production design, the atmosphere, the casting (mostly). The editing and effects are what drag it down the most.

*by most I mean the look of Arrakis and the fremen

Paraphrasing Harlan Ellison, the movie had so many things that could have or did go wrong, yet it still draws you in somehow.

Real close with this and TDKR, but Interstellar takes the cake.

but is it better than the miniseries?

with The Happening as a close second

nah the sets, the Harkonnen, the special effects... it creates a pretty good atmosphere when it doesnt get dragged down by pointless narration or star-wars bullshit.

thats a tough one. after earth, happening and last airbender are all unwatchable

...

It's hard to see how it was universally acclaimed when it came out. For me the difficult part was seeing past the shitty production values but the plot could have been much tighter.
I remember thinking that Scorcese was lucky get more chances afterwards.

Spiderman 3

Hook. thats my response

Happening is at least watchable on an ironic, shitty meme sense. After Earth is just completely devoid of redeeming qualities.

Phantom
Menace

The Magnificent Ambersons (Welles)
The Paradine Case (Hitchcock)

I disagree with Welles. The Magnificent Ambersons was brilliant sometimes and close to brilliant others. I was much more disappointed with say Lady From Shanghai, maybe the only film of his I wouldn't consider better than "good"

I've never seen Ambersons but I have a hard time getting a read on it's reputation. It's probably his third most beloved film overall, but it's biggest legacy is how badly the studio edited it. Is it still great with the edits or despite them?

Not teenaged, not angry, and never had a poster or T-shirt but Scarface didn't glorify the life at all. Tony was miserable, paranoid, and lonely for the entire movie. He was ferocious and cunning but his offensive exterior left no room for acceptance, trust, or love.

>He was a crazy stupid asshole
That's a very shallow assessment of the character. Tony was hardly crazy. He took on the birth of the cocaine explosion in the 80's and made a fortune through making aggressive bold moves, successfully courting and maintaining key contacts, and implementing Machiavellian tactics in his business strategies. Hardly a résumé capable of a stupid or crazy man. In the end, due in no small part to his loneliness and inability to trust, he becomes enslaved by his outlook on the world, his paranoia, and the white powder. Having accumulated more wealth than most and living lavishly for a time, Tony dies a peasant's death to a nobody hit man and is mourned by no one. This is the harsh reality that most drug kingpins face, and hardly any of them (that I have met, and I unironically have known several) see their lives as glamorous. They are business men. They enjoyed Scarface for the same reason I, an alcoholic, enjoyed Flight - it is a very accurate portrait of the life.

I didnt feel like doing an in depth analysis of the al pacino scarface. But the old one from the 30's is a better movie

Both I guess. The final film is a very good movie. You can see flashes of really great, I'd wait to read specifically what the studio changed until after you watch it though and then perhaps it wouldn't be so noticeable. So you have both a movie that stands as very good the way it is, and also stands as great despite the way some things were handled

Fuck. You.

danny boyle sucks

I didn't like it at all. I don't remember much, I think I felt Welles' style in the first half but on the second half I definitely zoned-out

Your mom sucks, nerd. The beach is prime

tim burton: alice in wonderland

whyd you post a blank picture

grand budapest hotel

No way. Best looking, most inventive story, first time Wes changes genre, and arguably his funniest and saddest film

>not Memento
Interstellar was good

who the fuck doesnt like Memento?

>Gangs of New York
>Scorsese
>worst
pleb
Other than seeing prime Barbara Hershey in the buff, Boxcar Bertha was just terrible. Strange that this oddity was bookended by two great Scorsese films, his debut Who's That Knocking at My Door? and Mean Streets

fine, but gangs of new york is a pretty weak movie and easily his worst in the last 30 years

But New York, New York is obviously his worst movie.

Did you make this thread without watching his filmography?

its not obvious, because most people havent watched that and you know it

The Magnificent Ambersons is a great film. I read the book and the tweaked ending works for the film, not so much the novel.

I hate to see Welles in top form and see it fail miserably. That one film for me would be Mr. Arkadin. It looks like a parody of Welles the way the producers edited it down, but I don't blame Welles, it's just unfortunate.

The worst Hitchcock film I seen was Rich and Strange. It was just a bunch of hooey. It was his transitional from silents to talkie film and it was a deplorable mess.

>Lynch's worst
Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me. There's just no talent at all involved in it. Every action, nuance, emotion is so forced and overwrought that it's exhausting to watch. Plus going ahead with the film and replacing Lara Flynn Boyle with Moira (literally who?) Kelly was a joke (although it was nice seeing her naked, she looked more like an accurate high school loli than Lara). It's amazing that Lynch stands so firmly behind this mess of a film to this day. Dune was actually way more cohesive and a better film than Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me (ironically, Lynch hates that film).

that is a fittingly shitty critique for a shitty movie
