Seeing how The Hobbits trilogy got circle-jerked and hated so much around here while LOTR is (rightfully) praised almost every day, let's play it another way.

What are some things that you like about The Hobbits and what are some things that you don't like about LOTR?

Hobbit wasn't trilogy material. They extended the story into three parts exclusively for monnies, thinking that 'stupid children buy it anyway'.

>was around 13 when fellowship came out
>spent highschool rewatching it nonstop
>had all the toys
>friends would play battle for middle earth on LAN all the time
>have only ever watched the last 2 hobbit filma once

I dont understand how they fucked those movies up so badly.

>What are some things that you like about The Hobbits
Literally nothing
>and what are some things that you don't like about LOTR
The overuse of the "he died no wait he didn't" trope or whatever it's called. It happens like 8 times throughout the trilogy. And Gimli + Legolas quipping. And "I am no man" scene.

Nice idea, but your thread will go nowhere because Sup Forums is shit.

Good things in The Hobbit
>added character development for dwarves, Bard, and Thranduil
>I actually really liked the Necromancer subplot
>Gollum and Smaug
>despite how long the Bag End scene was, it was ultimate comfy
>all of the actors were excellent apart from Evangeline Lily

Bad things about LOTR
>Wargs in TTT
>forced Merry and Pippin wackiness
>wasting Saruman in ROTK
>overly moody Arwen scenes
>that gay ass scene in ROTK with Frodo and Sam waking up in the hospital

Everything in the shire is great.
The riddles in the dark scene is great.
Smaug and Bilbo talking is great.
Freeman as Bilbo is great and easily the best part of the trilogy.
Cucumber as Smaug is great.
I liked Bard actually having a character.

Thats kind of it, the rest is pretty bad and BOTFA is on par with the star wars prequels in terms of general awfulness.

Hobbit
>Gollum was great
>Smaug was great
>Bilbo & Thorin were perfectly cast

LotR
>nothing, every frame is perfect

>What are some things that you like about The Hobbits

Smaug was great, the Bilbo-Smaug conversation was probably the best part of the entire trilogy.

The Misty Mountains song/theme.
Riddles in the Dark.
Smaug.
The very first teaser. When it was two movies.

>lord of the rings

never understood the love of this series. then again I hate fantasy. I remember in high school our television channel class some guy edited the round table or w/e discussion. whats the appeal of this trilogy!? its boring and shallow shit

Good Thing
>Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin characterization and interaction
>sound track
>Bilbo interacting with the lore/characters
>Smaug

Bad Thing about LOTR
>Spooky ghost ex machina

I forgot

>12 cut to black-endings to LOTR

t. orc

What are some things that you like about The Hobbits
> Fleshed out some characters and actually make them cohesive with the rest of the story.
> While the Necromancer subplot felt like it was completely irrelevant, it was actually well done and more interesting than the Hobbit itself.
> Martin Freeman was pretty likeable and did a good Bilbo. The rest of the actors also had good performances and give their best for this movie.
> Some individuals scenes (Smaug, Gollum, etc.) were really good and significantly raised the level of the movie until the bad shits happened.
> They're overall fine movie by themselves if you manage to disconnect them from the Lotr Trilogy or the original book. They really could have been worst.

And what are some things that you don't like about LOTR
> The fight scenes we're too shaky at times and it was hard to fully appreciate the choreography being done.
> oh shit nigga i can't think of anything else.

I really liked Richard Armitage in this movie, and his singing was nice.

>What are some things that you like about The Hobbits

most of the character scenes are really good, similar to LotR's, imo

most of the combat is really bad because they go on for so fucking long

it's unbelievable how bloated BOTFA was with its long and tiresome combat sequences, and how Hackson decided that character moments such as Bilbo leaving the dwarves or Thorin's funural could only fit in the EE

Good:
>Scenes in Bag End and Hobbiton were entertaining and set up the story well
>Martin Freeman is a good Bilbo
>The Dwarf Song was good
That's honestly all I can think of. Most of the dwarves were so poorly characterised (if at all) that they might as well have not been there.

The Hobbit
>A lot of the characters: Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin, Balin, Bard, Dain
>All the Bag End stuff (especially the two songs)
>Riddles in The Dark
>The arrival at Lake Town
>Smaug's conversation with Bilbo
>Smaug's attack on Lake Town
>youtube.com/watch?v=4d61BIwNal8
>Thorin's death

It's amazing how much the movies improve when you remove most of the elf shit.

LOTR
>Gollum looks bad in some of the EE scenes
>... I guess that's it

>Gollum looks bad in some of the EE scenes

When?

>Battle for Middle-Earth

That game was gold, I spent so much time on that

>Most of the dwarves were so poorly characterised
To be fair, that problem comes from the source material, where the only ones with any kind of personality are Thorin, Balin, Dori and Bombur (who is just "fat jokes lmao")

Wait people actually like the singing? When did this happen? Wasn't it's Mr. Grownup's excused to call this kiddy shit.

>lotr

Galadrieil could have been more beautiful. In fact Liv Tyler was the only hottie in lotr.

>the hobbit
Good characters, good acting, the necromancer subplot

>lotr
That scene in rotk when gothmog dodges that boulder and it pans to troll and it goes "hurrr"

That scenes makes me cringe every fucking time

>i am 14: the post

kek, don't forget how the troll freezes for a moment and always makes you think you accidentally paused the scene

>Implying Mrs.Gamgee isn't

Smaug and Bilbo meeting was cool IMO, I enjoyed Cumbersnatches voice and lines

Not a whole else was very good sadly

The dwarves suck. I dont care about the dwarves.

Movies should have been 100% about Dildo

The singing isn't what made it kiddy shit. The ridiculous CGI action scenes are. It's like they took the shield surfing and threw in 30 minutes of that into every hobbit movie

the first hobbit movie isn't really that bad. the other two are a fucking travesty

Thing is that Dildo's plot is the dorfs' plot.

Then they should have significantly decreased their presence. That whole love triangle between the dwarf - legolas - elf girl was dumb and unnecessary.

IT WAS IN THE PROPHECY

THESE MOVIES WERE DOOMED FROM THE START

tfw these two fuck IRL
