A member of the parliament is supposed to work in a committee, like the committee on justice, on defense, etc. You're supposed to work on amendments and laws. That's what happens every day in a parliament, including the European Parliament. Every one is a member of at least 2 committees and is supposed to work in each.

That's the nature of democracy, to show up and have your say and vote. There's no excuse for being voted by his constituency to represent them in the European Parliament by doing NOTHING for years.
Giving speeches in the plenary of the European Parliament is not the actual work of a parliamentary. You are supposed to work on laws, to inform yourself, to use your staff properly, to draw up questions to the Commission. If you never worked in such an instutition, you might be forgiven for not knowing that there is a lot of work to be done before you have a law to vote on. That law will not magically come into being. It takes months of negotiations and submitting amendments.
Nobody is the odd-one out there. If your amendment is good, it's very likely to be supported. Not all amendments come from political lines. It's not political parties which send the amendments to laws it's not parties which make laws in the European Parliament, it's the actual individual members of the EP, who have to submit their own proposals, their own amendments.
Nigel Farage never did that. While everyone else was working on laws, he was just taking the money without doing anything. All this while, complaining about how wasteful EU institutions are. But he was the one who was wasting money doing nothing! He was part of the waste. Why did he stay there if he couldn't stand being part of the EU institutions? Whom did he represent?
