this was nice, but a bit strange how they mixed comedy, dark comedy, and drama.

i've recently seen:
>The Chaser
really good imo

>The Wailing
really liked some parts, disliked others

>The Handmaiden
kino

>In the Mood for Love
kino

>Chungking Express
kino++

>Raise the Red Lantern
kino++

>Drug War
worth a watch, would have liked a bit more about the characters

>Black Coal, Thin Ice
quite nice

>Fallen Angels
fell asleep tier

what should I watch now? moderns only (from the 80s to now)

also pic related, my fav asian movie

>>Fallen Angels
>fell asleep tier

Re-watched pic related recently. So perfectly shot, composed, lit and edited.

it was good, but I couldn't stand the scenes with the mute goddamn
also, half of it is just random camera movements

I saw The Handmaiden last night. Great film.

>Black Coal, Thin Ice
Loved the atmosphere in this.

I always like to watch more Asian kino, but 95% of the time they are just very superficial. Very beautiful, but not much behind it. There are exceptions of course.

I'd like to watch more of Thai (?) movies, but it's hard to find good rips.

Assassin
Shaolin soccer
Kung Fu hustle
Shin Godzilla
J S A
Bittersweet Life
Tale of Princess Kaguya

Just got into Kore-eda.
Is there any other asian directors that can match his mastery of comfy kino?

Saw this a few weeks ago. Very good film.

What if it's a French movie directed by an Iranian dude with Japanese actors in it?

>half of it is just random camera movements
i always wonder how deep into a binge Doyle is whenever he is shooting

what are some good Korean kinos to add to my list on Netflix (US)?

Yeah, Ang Lee

stray dogs?

>ogawa no hotori
comfy travel kino

wow dude great analysis for all of them!
fucking kill yourself unintelligent memeposter

>Films only allowed from Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan.
Fuck you pleb.

>Lets have Asian cinema thread.
>but lets pretend Asia is only four small countries

There is a lot more to Asia than just Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan.

>buttmad jungle monkey detected

I'm please give recs

modern masterpiece and probably top3 of 21st century

Ran

>tropical malady
>a brighter summer day
>yi yi
>chungking express
>in the mood for love
>kung fu hustle
>spring summer fall winter and spring
>castaway on the moon
>anything by kurosawa or ghibli

someone needs to make one of those 'essential' images for asian cinema

but why does no 1 recognzie the tree part they always say who is the killer.

Thoughts on Cold Fish or Man in High Heels?

Kitano's 90s crime films are really fascinating, not just as great films but the way his criticisms and contemplations evolve from genre (Violent Cop) to the audience (Boiling Point), to himself (Sonatine) and then art and life(Hana-bi). I can't think of films that feel more therapeutic to their author as his early ones

Can I get some sengoku and gangster movie recommendations, please?

FiliKino

ha?

Will have to rewatch my man

>ran
>kagemusha
>sonatine
>pale flower
>why dont you play in hell
>new world 2013
>nameless gangster
>13 assassins
>a bittersweet life
>drunken angel

...

Watched The Chronicles of Evil and The Man From Nowhere a few days ago. They're pretty good.

>Imperialista

Metro Manila is also pretty good

Where do I go after having watched all of Tsai Ming-Liang's work, but feel left wanting more?

Ozu-HHH-Kaurismaki.

>13 assassins

The scene where he just holds the axe when the gym teacher comes in is pure Kino

I ain't watching kino on my browser. I'll keep it in mind my man. I'll make a thread that you're right.

It's literally goodSevenSamurai, pleb.

>no Hong Kong
>no Macau
>no Thailand
>no Malaysia

Good job missing out, fuckboi.

It's one of the very few films I've seen that the second I finished watching it, I knew I had just seen a masterpiece.
This has maybe happened 3 or 4 other times.

This reminds me, I can't wait for Tampopo to finally get it's blu-ray

> No Nakashima

Also out of all modern more mainstream Korean films not on the list (JSA, Vengeance trilogy, The Handmaiden, Mother),you still picked The Host? What the fuck?

This fucking film

bump

How are violent cop and boiling point?
All I've seen was Hana-bi and I loved it.

Han Gong-ju

...

Violent Cop is like if Dirty Harry was played extremely straight. No heroism, just an extremely violent cop

Boiling Point is kind of a mess, more comedic but worth watching

Stephen Chow films are just live-action anime

What's the big fucking deal?

in real killer was never caught thats why the final scene is so GOAT
this tree thing is nothing

only watch this is if you want to get crippled emotionally though

and apparently the wind rises is a masterpiece but spirited away isn't?

negro plz

contrarian bullshit

This movie didn't make any sense to me and the people in it and their behaviour were incomprehensible.

Whats your favourite Kurosawa lads

Someone post the list that Sup Forums made of South Korean films please.

the best gangster film on this planet is "a dirty carnival"

I asked about them because they're streaming on amazon video.
I'll have to track down sonantine sometime.

...

a dirty carnival fucking stinks, the story is boring the music is shit and the cinematography is garbo.

Depends on my mood. 7 Samurai is watchable atm

Waiting on Love Exposure Extended Cut

>The Handmaiden
>kino
>Fallen Angels
>fall asleep
wew lad

...

The only Filipino movie in my collection.

New World and A Bittersweet life are a lot better user watch them

Ran and Ikiru

I wish KK would go back to doing occult/spooky shit

One movie that I never see recommended here, it's Graveyard of honor by the one and only Takashi Miike.

youtube.com/watch?v=in88uHolkRI

HHH is a meme director, can believe everyone fell for it. Hopefully next time people will be more prepared for it.

Absolutely ridiculous and retarded plot.

For some reason, I really loved this movie. There's nothing technically impressive about this movie but something just draws you into it.

The red spectacles
Pastoral: to die country
Tattooed life

kill yourself

War kino from The Philippines

Is Cyclo (1995) kino?
thats the only good movie come out of my country Ive ever watched tbqh

shut your whore mouth

anyways, what was "ridiculous and retarded" about the plot?

1. Ran
2. High and Low
3. Seven Samurai

The atmosphere and tension were great in this movie but I could never get past the whole dumb hypnosis bullshit. It's not like I was expecting some well thought out explanation but the fact he could hypnotize people with just a lighter or a cup of water was just too far-fetched for me.

I am the guy who have posted the movie. That user is probably on a drive by shitpost run.

Ran
High and Low
Rashomon

obvious choices, I know. honorable mention to Stray Dog and Dreams.
