Cow Boys: The Western

Don't be taken in by the Spaghetti Western meme. They're pastiche.

Watch all the Howard Hawks and John Ford westerns.

Every John Wayne western made after 1940 is at least somewhat enjoyable, in the same way that Tom Cruise rarely makes a completely awful movie.

Spaghetti Westerns are the pinacle of the genre. Leone gave more artistic contribution to film than John Wayne ever could dream of doing.

DUUDE these guys know they're westerns

These aren't real, right?

nigga you think Sling Dangus is a real movie?

The Magnificent Seven (the original)

A Fistful of Dollars/Yoshimbo

The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

Second one is better : Slanguru bangjos fuugatsu! dangusaiku no gakusei ha sinpotsu da! RUMBLE !!!

They changed the cast a bit and went a different way story wise while keeping the tone of the first film. A good kino that is perfectly valid to watch and to put on any Official Kinossoieur Portfolio.
But op, forget about the third and fourth movie. They're garbage. Although, Takahashi Miike is planning to do a reboot so you might want to keep an eye out.

Dunno about quintessential, but here's everything I've given 8/10 or higher to, which just happens to be 20.

Mike Tyson: Banjo Biff Goes to the Miff Spliff Sling Ding.

Back to the Future II

No one on Sup Forums has mentioned pic related in this thread?

This place truly is filled with comic book loving Sup Forumstards. Sigh.

Also, no one mentioned High Noon? What about The Proposition?

Fucking eh, this place is shit

Just know that Spaghetti Westerns and American Westerns are almost completely different from each other. If you want to get into traditional Westerns, their peak was the '50's, Old Hollywood, so they're unfortunately kinda hard to get into.

But look up Ford's body of work, he's the undisputable genre master, Peckinpah's works, High Noon, Unforgiven, Tommy Lee Jones and Kevin Costner are both fantastic western filmmakers as well, Assassination of Jesse James

Spaghetti Westerns though are still a fucking blast, they're pulpy, messy, violent, filmmaking with no ethical code, they didn't care what they showed on screen as long as it was bloody enough, let me know if you want to have spaghetti western suggestions

"100 ways to die in the west" and "the ridiculous six" are the best recent westerns.

>Stagecoach with John Wayne
>Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
>Cimino's Heaven's Gate
>The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford by Andrew Dominik
They are very different and very far cronologically. Watch them and then you decide what's your favourite "western era". Spaghetti Western are my favourite pick on the genre
don't fall for the tarantino meme

Butch & Sundance (imo the best in the genre)
Fistful of Dollars
Good Bad & Ugly

Tombstone
True Grit (Coens)
Deadwood (show)

Hateful 8

And the best thing that ever came from westerns, even if it's Sup Forums:
Usagi Yojimbo

>The Searchers
Overrated boring shit. Just watch everything with Clint Eastwood, those are the only entertaining Westerns.
