For the record, this is because those provinces derive a significant amount of energy from hydroelectric dams. At least in Ontario, the main electric utility company was previously called "Ontario Hydro" because of this, so it stuck. Even after the company was broken up, the largest power utility is called Hydro One.

Thats funny to me because the largest hydro system in the world is on the west coast. All of the snowmelt from the canadian rockies powers 50 something dams down here.

Historically, it was mostly hydroelectric. The name already stuck by the time nuclear energy came around.

No true, I'm from PEI and we only call it soccer-baseball
No we just call it the electric bill. But during the springtime and early summer the electric bill is quite a bit cheaper. The dams all close or run on a few generators so the lakes dont dry up. My electricity must switch to nuclear when that happens.
