From the repository's wiki, a basic plan:

The game has three states: map setup, game lobby and game.

During setup the OP uploads a black and white map with separated territories. The program checks for closed areas using a flood fill and those within given parameters of brightness and size are saved with an ID, its position and their graphical "hover" and "selected" states generated using a simple solid block for color tinting. Other options are selected for the game. This data, along with the game state (territorial distribution, bonuses, players' status...) will be sent to the client so that it can represent them graphically. The initial idea is to have games in subdirectories and have them accessed via an ID, like pastebin or a chan.

During the lobby state, every visitor gets assigned a pseudo unique ID based on their IP and some browser fingerprint. They can also set a nickname or one is generated for them. Chat is available at this point. This data is also saved along with the game state.

During the game state, turns are processed in order (blocking). They finish when players choose to, a timeout-enabled voting enables for other players to pass turn or when the OP decides to. The game flow is implemented using both JavaScript for the game UI and PHP for server checking and actual logic. Everything is saved in the filesystem using JSON.
There's a chat or auto-reloading imageboard present at all times. Users are identified both by their ID's last characters and their nick.

Once the game finishes, the files are archived. It would be interesting to have an AAR and an animated gif generated automatically. Other nice features can be added when all this is in place.
