lol, that's not a thing that ever happens. at best you'd have a couple of these unions form, partially, with most states choosing to remain autonomous or even secede entirely, and most states would sooner ally based on shared interest over geographic similarity. for example, california would sooner join oregon than nevada, new mexico and arizona, though more likely it would split into norcal and socal.

could happen if only because the russian winter that is Manitoba lies between, but north Ontario would more than likely want to be part of the Republic than the Demasculinized Zone that would be an autonomous Ontario. In fact, I doubt anyone would want to be dragged down with the GTA and it's decisions; make Ottawa and the surrounding south Ontarian cities (including Detroit) their own little ghetto (they'd probably call it Canada) and this will be accurate.
