It's a bunch of brief rotoscoped philosophical perspectives phased in and out like in a dreamscape with an overarching theme of lucid dreaming. It's a great film, I don't think there's any particular message other than to paint a picture of the contemplative and nonsensical nature of the dream state.

An open mind doesn't mean you stop noticing when something is dumb. If I told you to read my post with an open mind, would you suddenly agree with me? The movie is silly fun, but only seems insightful to people that have never ever seriously considered these ideas before or read many of the much smarter things that have been written about them.
